No one can write about small Alaskan villages, bush pilots and life in the Park like Dana Stabenow. She knows it and has lived it. Another great book.

Another great read in the Kate Shugak series. I guess I like these books so much because they're fast mystery reads with great descriptions of Alaska and it's people and cultures. Patiently waiting for the 5th in ebook form to come out!

Not as good as her first 3 in this series.

Usually written by someone who read a pamphlet one time about Alaska and over uses the "Alaskan buzz words". Usually getting the meaning or usage wrong.
Lucky for me Dana Stabenow IS an Alaskan! Her books are great! They take on the complex native cultures and systems in a stunningly accurate way. In this book she takes on the North Slope. I have been having fun with my Father, who worked on the Slope for almost 30 years, and my husband who has been there for almost 5. Is this right? Is this right? Did you ever hear about this happening? It's strange because some of the things she writes in this book paralleles the Slope my dad worked at!
I highly recommend these books if you have never been to Alaska they tell it like it is here, if you live in Alaska you can laugh at the inside local jokes.

Overview
Work hard, play hard. That's the credo on the oilfields of Alaska’s North Slope, where harsh conditions and long, isolated shifts make for some of the best-paid jobs in the state. Management typically turns a blind eye to off-hours drinking and gambling, but a spate of drug-related deaths means it's time for Royal Petroleum to get its house in order. Working on behalf of the Anchorage DA, Kate Shugak is brought in undercover to identify the dealer and shut down the flow of cocaine. Of course, the dealer might have some very different ideas.Informed by her own years working on the North Slope, Dana Stabenow’s ”A Cold-Blooded Business” captures a slice ...
