Overview

Lose Yourself in the History, Opulence, and Elegance of the Thousand Islands

Cousins Amanda, Sophie, and Fanny Broadmoor are as close as sisters, but when their grandfather dies, the terms of his will just might destroy their bond. Seventeen-year-old Fanny has never put much stock in the conventions of society. In fact, she has given her heart to Michael, the family boat-keeper. But when she receives a surprising inheritance, she discovers just how oppressive society can be... and that she may be trusting the wrong people.

Dare she follow her heart and risk going against her family? What if she loses everything she's ever known? It all comes down to one choice: What does Fanny Broadmoor want her legacy to be?

Editorial Reviews

RomanceDesigns.com
The writing styles of Ms. Peterson and Ms. Miller remind me of the Anne of Green Gables stories that I loved when I was younger. The relationship that the cousins share is amusing as well as showcases their love for one another, despite their differences. The cousins will defend each other, even to their own families. The story is set in the 1890's and reflects what the women of society went through, their hopes, their dreams, and their disappointments. I connected with Fanny's character in wanting to be with her family for the summer vacations. Even though the families do not get along, she still wishes to honor her grandparents memories by trying to keep the family together.

I loved this book. The writing team of Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller is first rate. Everything about A Daughter's Inheritance is flawless. The dialogue and mannerisms are appropriate for the time, characters are so real they touched me, and the way this duo portrays the Thousand Islands makes me want to visit this gorgeous area again. I've been there several times and the richness of the details in this story bring the landscape to life. A Daughter's Inheritance is a legacy that any author should be proud of. It is wonderful.

    more from this reviewer

Left me wanting, and not in a good way!

I became quite absorbed in this book and really began to root for the main character and couldn't wait to see how everything turns out. But then it just ends...that's it... I even searched to see if there was a sequel (and there is but more $$ than i felt the series would be worth!) But the description of the other two books had nothing to do with the main character in the story I had just invested my time in reading. Any good book needs to be able to stand alone in a series and I'm afraid this one didn't. I would have gladly given more stars if at least I felt there was a resolution to the plot. And I gave one more star than I was going to orginally but the storyline really was entertaining up until "The End". Left me wanting, and not in a good way!

    TERRIBLE....TERRIBLE...TERRIBLE!

Don't waste your time reading this book. It is the worst book I have ever read!! Thank God I didn't buy it and I would NOT buy the second book in the series nor any other book this author wrote. The book was slow starting but got interesting with several plots taking place. Then the book ends!! Not one plot is resolved. The book leaves everything hanging....like a soap opera....I guess so you will want to get the next book?? Not me! I hate I wasted my time reading it. And I won't be sucked into buying the next book in the series just to find out what happens (I guess it would continue the story). In all my years reading books...this is the first book to just end...just like the author had a mind lapse and said "I'll just stop here" Go figure!

    READ THIS IF YOU'RE BORED

The book was only okay, which is okay, but the ending was so abrupt it left everything hanging! None of the problems were solved; there was no closure at all! It is as if the writer ran out of paper so the story went unfinished. Had I known, I wouldn't have wasted my time reading this. CS 9.14.11

    I Also Recommend:

    Captivating Novel

Excellent story of a prominent NY family in 1897. It is a story of 3 cousins that are closer than sisters, and the Uncle that will do anything to make money even dishonesty and fraud in his own family. Could not wait for him to be discovered and punished. Don't start reading Book One until you have purchased book 2 & 3. The Broadmoor Legacy is a continuing story, and has a surprise ending in Book 3 you won't want to miss. If you like historical novels you will love this series.

I think the book was fairy good but just kept going on and on and on. It seemed the only thing the ladies in the book did was eat, talk about others and party. All the uncle thought about was money. I just wanted it to end. Probablywill not read the other books in the series.

    Good book.

I'm not usually a fan of Historical Fiction, but this book drew me in from page one. The ending could of been better, but the author makes it so you have to read the next one in the series to find out what happens.

    Not recommended

The book ends so abruptly it was startling. The story moved slowly and did not have a lot of depth. I realize that the authors wanted to write a series in the interest of selling more books but please just complete the story.

    Enjoyable

I enjoyed this tale, although I wished it would of gone on more. I felt like other recent reviews that I was left hanging, but I did just realize this is a series. I will withhold judgement and read the next 2 books of the series.
