Everything changes when a fatal traffic accident well outside Mapleton seems connected to elderly Rose and Sam Kretzer, two of Mapleton's most beloved citizens. The arrival of Megan, the Kretzer's grown ward, and Justin, their grandson add to his troubles when Megan is mugged. In addition, Justin is renovating his grandparents' house despite their objections, and then someone breaks in and the house is ransacked. When Gordon ties the car accident to a grisly murder in Mapleton—the first anyone in town can remember—he's afraid he's into more than he bargained for.

His fears are realized when his investigation seems to link the Kretzers to a Nazi war criminal. Can he work with the big-city detective brought in to assist? Will he be able to solve the crime without revealing the secrets of his citizens?

Meet the Author

Terry Odell was born in Los Angeles, moved to Florida, and now makes her home in Colorado. An avid reader (her parents tell everyone they had to move from their first home because she finished the local library), she always wanted to "fix" stories so the characters did what she wanted. Once she began writing, she found this wasn't always possible, as evidenced when the mystery she intended to write rapidly became a romance.

When she thought about it, she realized that her favorite mysteries were series where she could follow the developing relationships of the protagonist—to the point where she'd read the book twice; once for the relationship and again to follow the crime and its solution. So, she started reading romance, and found there was a genre that included mystery themes as well as a relationship.

Although her primary genre is labeled "romantic suspense", Terry prefers to think of her books as "Mysteries With Relationships." DEADLY SECRETS is the author's first "pure" mystery, although the relationship potential is still there.

    A Must Read!

    Deadly Secrets is a one of a kind mystery, infused with multi-dimensional characters, nail biting twists, and an ending that you¿ll never see coming. This small town mystery is hiding a very large secret¿ I couldn't put it down!

    Odell has proven herself to be an extremely talented mystery writer. I can¿t wait to read the next book in the Mapleton Mystery Series.

    Kept me guessing

    Lots of twists and turns, and characters I identified with. Not the author's usual romantic suspense, but there's definitely relationship and series potential here. An excellent mystery debut.

    Good read

    I like Terry Odell and have now read most of her books. I will continue to read anything she puts out as I've not been disappointed yet. Interesting and fast-paced and not necessarily on edge of seat, but a page-turner.

    Not my thing.

    I don't care for romance novels, and although there was an interesting mystery, there was more romance than I expected. Unless there was some rough condensing of the story by B and N for the Nook, the author jumped from one scene to the next making me think I missed a page.

    This book caught my attention right away becaue the mystery seem

    This book caught my attention right away becaue the mystery seemed promising, but it quickly became quite tedious so I skimmed the last half.  It can't decide if it's a mystery or a romance novel:  It has the bones of a
    good police procedural but the author throws in some gratuitous scenes that have nothing to do with the mystery plot.  The book is also wordy and the character development is feeble.

    More Mapleton recommended

    I'm a fan of cozy mysteries, those that don't keep me up nights afraid to close my eyes and those that don't make me part of a three-some sex scene. The Mapleton Mystery series is a good mystery, great characters, and an enjoyable read. I liked this book a lot.
