Death on Heels (The Crime of Fashion Mysteries, #8)

I'LL NEVER GO BACK!

"Never!" D. C. fashion reporter Lacey Smithsonian swears she'll never go back to Sagebrush, Colorado. That scruffy hard-luck  Western boom town is where she earned her spurs as a cub reporter. But now three young women have been murdered, their bodies found barefoot and broken. And the accused is her old boyfriend, Sagebrush rancher Cole Tucker.

In her best (for courage) cowboy boots, Lacey heads way out West to help prove Tucker's innocence. And to resolve the last of her old feelings for this man she once loved--and left. Her plan doesn't sit well with her current beau, private eye Vic Donovan, who has his own history in Sagebrush. Vic races back there in pursuit of Lacey. Her editor and a nosy fellow reporter are chasing Lacey's story. Soon many more complications are hot on her trail. Like a murderer--and even her mother.

But Tucker kicks over all their plans when he abducts Lacey in a daring courthouse escape. On the run with her old flame, deep in the badlands of Western Colorado, fleeing in stolen Jeeps and on horseback, with Vic, the sheriff's posse, and a vicious killer in hot pursuit, Lacey's world turns upside down. Who can she trust? Tucker? or Vic? The law? Or her own conflicted feelings? Or nothing but her reporter's instinct for the truth?

"I loved the touch that Lacey was a reporter trying to track down a murderer, but could always be counted on for her fashion forward thinking as well. This was the definition of a chick lit murder mystery. If you haven't yet picked up a Lacey Smithsonian novel, I suggest you do! About the Author

Ellen Byerrum is a novelist, a playwright, a reporter, a former Washington, D.C., journalist, and a graduate of private investigator school in Virginia. Her Crime of Fashion Mystery series features a savvy, stylish female sleuth named Lacey Smithsonian, a reluctant fashion reporter  who solves crimes with fashion clues. The series is set in Washington D.C., which Smithsonian lovingly refers to as "The City That Fashion Forgot.”

Publisher's Weekly has called Byerrum's writing "as smooth as fine-grade cashmere."

In addition to mysteries, Byerrum has also produced her first suspense thriller, The Woman in the Dollhouse. It introduces us to a young woman, Tennyson Claxton, whose mind holds the mingled memories of two very different women. Best Thrillers calls this page turner “an ingeniously crafted psychological thriller that bewitches on page one and continues to mesmerize until its shocking conclusion." Byerrum anticipates exploring Tennyson’s continuing odyssey in a future novel.

More information about the author can be found on her website at www.ellenbyerrum.com and on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. She also produces short humorous pieces on fashion on her YouTube channel, Ellen Byerrum's Fashion Bites.
