    We love these books!

My husband and I have been reading the entire Deltora series with my elementary aged daughter. We all love them. I did not grow up liking fantasy, but I am a HUGE fan now. The writing is suspenseful, action-packed, and descriptive. The characters--especially Leif--have a wonderful arc. Leif starts off impetuous, but as he and his companions go through adventure after adventure, he changes and becomes more wise. What I especially like is although the hero is a young man, one of his essential companions is a female, Jasmine, who is smart, strong, and a really cool character.
The monsters are awesome! Some are scarey, some require that the characters answer riddles, all are unique and fantastically developed. I think these books would appeal to kids of all ages, but I would shy away from the very young (kindergarten and first grade). The monsters leave a very definite... but fun... impression.
