    My Summary:
Brooke has been on the move her whole life. She's never really understood why her mom moved them around so much. Then, just as she starts to settle in to her new town, things get dangerous. Could this danger be what her mom has been avoiding all these years?

Brooke has wanted Jaren's attention for a long time and just as they are settling into a relationship, Jaren is attacked by a vampire who is coming for Brooke. She manages to kill the vampire using skills that come naturally. Which leaves her to question, what the heck is happening to her? Brooke, Jaren, and best friend Kaitlyn set out to find the answers to her new found powers and to find out who is after her. Along the journey she is introduced to Mirko, who helps her to control and use her new skills. He may also hold not only the answers to her questions, but the key to her heart as well.

    My Take:
This was one action packed story that help my attention all the way through. Brooke was a solid heroine with kick butt abilities. I appreciated how the story developed. It was solid and steady.

As for characters, I liked Brooke pretty much from the start. On occasion, the female leads can annoy me, but Brooke rang true as likable and strong. I really like her friend Kaitlyn. She made me laugh. I loved how she stood by Brooke, who really needed someone constant in her life. Brooke had so much change in her life that the stability of her friendship with Kaitlyn was important.

Now, my thoughts on the boys. I mean really...what is Brooke thinking? Why is she even questioning who she should be with? I never liked Jaren. He's so back and forth with his commitment to Brooke, I found it annoying. Mirko on the other hand, *fans self* he's the total package. Not only is he honest with Brooke, but he's developed true feelings for her. He also respects her abilities and decisions.

So my challenge to you is this, can you handle a book with a hot hero and a kick butt heroine? Can you survive the action packed adventure that Angeline Kace takes you on? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then this is the perfect read for you!

Wow. This was a super fast read.

I totally loved this book. Lots of tension, creative story, and intriguing characters. It's not just another vampire novel. The twists are different and unique. It does have a flavor of Vampire Academy to it, which is fine by me because I loved that series.

Looking forward to reading Angeline Kace's future books!

    Great beginning to this series.

Descended by Blood by Angeline Kace is the first book in the Vampire Born series. The main character Brooke Keller has moved around most of her life. She lives with her mom who is very protective over her. She finally has a best friend, Kaitlynn and a hot boyfriend, Jaren. Things are going very well for Brooke until she notices that she's being followed and possibly stalked by a creepy stranger. When the creeper tries to kidnap Brooke in front of Jaren a mystery reveals itself. Brooke exhibits special powers that she can't explain. Frightened and worried Brooke goes on the run with Jared and Kaitlynn only to find that whoever is after her is not far behind.
Descended by Blood has an very interesting, action packed plot. This story line includes a love triangle between Jaren, Brooke, Mirko who is the guy sent to protect her. The author has set up a great back story to the history of vamps as well. I also like the depth Kace gives her characters. It really helped to understand the characters and their actions better. One thing that bothers me in books is instant love. I felt that Brooke and Jarens relationship was a bit rushed. Kace explains in her novel that vampires form attachments very quickly so I could understand why it happened so quickly but it still doesn't work for me. Mirko and Brooke's relationship is more my speed. Mirko is immediately attracted to Brooke but there are no instant confessions of love.
Another thing I really like in this book is the characters reactions to their situations. It's good and refreshing to see characters not always have such a positive view and to be so accepting of life changing events. To me that seems like a normal reaction. For instance Brooke is mad at her mother for the secrets she kept from her her whole life. I like that some characters can go with the flow but it's also nice to see characters having trouble dealing with situations.
Overall this is a good book to read. It's very fast paced and exciting. I definitely want to continue reading this series especially since it ended with a cliff hanger. The next book, Enemy Within, comes out this year.

    Descended by Blood

Brooke Keller isn't your typical high school student. After a lifetime of moving from place to place, she has finally found a spot where she feels at home and belongs. But when strange things start happening, she's afraid to tell her mother and find out they have to move again. Now by strange things, I mean really strange. She "talks" to a mountain lion that attacks her on a hike and realizes that a man is stalking her - trying to kill her. After the attempt at her life, her mother finds out of course, and then a whole new set of strange things begin. She finds out that she is a vampire, and it turns out that she is a very special one. She teams up with a group that is determined to keep her alive and help her adjust to her new life.

Brooke was a good character. She was sufficiently "freaked out" by the strange turn of events her life had taken. She is at once disgusted at her new way of life, and wanting to embrace her new powerful self. She adjusts quickly, but in a way that makes the story real and involving. She finds herself torn between her old life and her new one - torn between her high school love and the vampire hunk that is trying to help her. The attempts on her life continue and she has the choice to embrace her new life and powers or be killed. A wonderful, quick read that I recommend to fans of urban fantasy.

Good read. Easy to follow story.

I enjoyed this book and have recommended this book to friends that like to read as much as I do. The characters are interesting and the story kept me interested the entire time. Lots of vampire books out there to read right now, but I am glad I picked this one to read.

    Unique Vampire history!

Descended by Blood was a refreshing new vampire story! It definitely had an awesome and unique twist that sets it apart from the many others out there. I'm just going to spit it out - I'm going into this Team Mirko all the way! ;)

I really enjoyed the writing style. It was very simple, but detailed enough that there was no losing grip on what's going on! I loved the twist on vampire legend and history. It was really interesting, because it was different enough that I was never comparing it to other vampire history that I've read about from other books. I was thoroughly absorbed in learning more about the Pijawika history.

Although I loved many aspects of the story, I didn't care too much for Brooke, the main character. I felt that there was nothing to relate to her about and sometimes she got on my nerves. I liked Jaren and Mirko much, much more! Mirko was especially a favorite and he's one of those guys that is not afraid to hold back what he thinks, but melts your heart.the bad boy style. Does that make sense?

Descended by Blood was fast paced and action packed! I was always on edge of figuring out what and who and how and so on! I think everyone should grab a copy of this book and read it as soon as possible. Great debut by Angeline Kace! I will be keeping my eyes open for her work in the future and, of course, continuing with this series.

    Great Book!!!

I wasn't sure what to expect when starting this book. I haven't been really into stories about vampires lately, but I am so glad I read this one. It's not just your typical vampire story. I was pulled in right from the beginning of the book, and it progressed wonderfully right through to the cliffhanger ending. It was an adrenaline rush from the start. The story moves fast and brings you from one thing to the next. The characters developed nicely and you really get a feel for them. I liked seeing Brooke change and really learn to stand up for herself and her friends, instead of being the girl who won't even defend herself against Jaren's snotty ex-girlfriend. She comes to accept her vampire blood and learns to embrace it and use it, though it does take a while and some help from Mirko, a wise very old vampire Lijepa, and her BFF Kaitlyn. Mirko helps train Brook how to fight, and Lijepa helps her to learn to use her special skills. Kaitlyn is the awesome BFF who is understanding and non judgmental and I really like her personality. I hope we get to see more of her in the future books. She really helps Brooke to just be who she is meant to be, and not to be so afraid. Onto the whole love triangle thing. I love how now being an adult I look back and laugh because I remember the drama of being a teenage girl with a crush, and how one minute it's heaven and the next you are an emotion wreck. The whole falling in love quick thing usually does bother me, but it doesn't so much in this book because it's a typical teenager thing. Brooke is so head over heals over Jaren, and has liked him forever so I can see how she's "in love" with him. I kinda don't really like Jaren much. I mean I feel a little bad for him because he's had a rough upbringing with a dad who doesn't care, but I don't think he is deserving of Brooke at all. He thinks he can just want her, and then not want her, and then want her again, all while expecting her to just take him back. Mirko on the other hand has wanted her the whole time he has known her and never wavered in his decision at all. Yes he's a little arrogant, but really he has every right to be so I am team Mirko all the way. I hope we get to know more about his deep dark past. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, and hope it continues on a fast paced thrill ride like this one.

    Descended by Blood

Descended by Blood is a young adult, paranormal romance. Brooke is a teen who has finally gotten the attention of her high school crush. Pretty quickly afterward though, things start to go downhill. First, someone attempts to kidnap her, she finds out that she's not exactly human and her mom has been keeping this a secret from her, and her new boyfriend is a little uncomfortable with these new developments.

It sucks when the person you are falling in love with has trouble accepting everything about you. This drives Brooke into the arms of another guy, resulting in the famous love triangle. These guys are the complete opposite of one another, but I liked them both. In the midst of trying to sort out her messy love life and accept this new part of herself, Brooke has to deal with the fact that her life is in danger.

Descended by Blood is a quick paced, action packed book. I did think that the relationships happened just a little quickly, and I didn't quite connect with the characters. The ending was pretty abrupt - it definitely ends with a cliffhanger. There's some mystery going on, and I think book #2 will be exciting. I recommend this book to teens and young adults, especially fans of Twilight and Vampire Academy.

    Amazing Debut!

He pulled away from me and cupped my head, stroking my outer ear lobe with his thumb. "Please choose me." he pleaded.

What a wondrous read this turned out to be! Descended by Blood by Angeline Kace has left me at awh as to how to put my thoughts on the computer screen. Descended by Blood takes on a paranormal that I for one am very picky about, vampires. I am a very picky person with vampire books, a lot of vampire books I have read in the past, have not appealed all that much to me. Descended by Blood was great. I loved it. I loved the characters I loved the world that Angeline so awesome-ly put together..I just loved this book.

Descended by Blood is in the eyes of Brooke, Brooke is a normal teenage girl she has her best friend Kaitlynn, and her new boyfriend Jaren who she is completly in love with. Brookes normal life gets turned upside down when she realizes she is being stalked by a strange man. One day while hanging out with Jaren the strange man breaks into Jarens apartment and attacks them and tries to kidnap Brooke..Brooke kills this man..and the scary part is? It was easy. Now Brookes whole life is being flipped, she is finding out she is half vampire, and her dad that she has never met is a very powerful vampire. Now Brooke has to hide, because someone is after her. Not only does Brooke have to hide, so does Kaitlynn, and so does Jaren who since finding out Brooke is half-vampire has said they need to take a break.

As if Brookes life isn't already complicated enough she also has Mirko, Mirko is there guide to taking them into hiding. Mirko is snarky, cocky, and a totally hot vampire. Even though he tries to act cool, Brooke knows deep down he is caring, and now she is finding herself caring for him in just the same way, but her and Jaren are still talking and her heart doesn't know what to do.

Descended by Blood was an amazing read, even though I feel the love between Jaren and Brooke didn't make as much sense. I am hoping that means that her and Mirko will be together in the end. The characters in this book were amazing, Brooke is such a strong character, but knows when to show her emotions. Kaitlynn is a wonderful delight for a best friend, Jaren is caring, but he was my least favorite character, he breaks up with Brooke after finding out she is half-vampire, but then right as soon as Mirko shows intrest in Brooke he gets protective of her, if he truely 'loved' her like he says over and over he does he would've went along things differently.

Mirko...ah Mirko I could talk about him alllll day long. He is sexy, he is cocky, but he is also caring and protective..and 100% yummy. I absoultely adored him. He was my favorite character of all, Angeline put him together perfetly. I seriously am gonna freak out if this series ends with Brooke and Jaren.

Anyways, Descnded by Blood is a wonderful debut it had a beautiful combination of everything anyone could want in a series, there was love, there was loss, there was action there was everything. Descended by Blood has left me yearning for book two. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read. (:

    Great book!

I can tell you that as soon as I started this book I knew I love it! Right from the start, the reader is captivated by a mysterious stalker, attacks from no where, and a girl who just figured out what she is. I adored the plot line of this book. I like how Ms. Kace brought to life the characters through her plot line. It is easy to fall into and very easy to relate to the characters.

The characters of the book were amazing,. There are two hot, hot, hotties, who I can't stop thinking about. Both of them are flawed boys that any girl would love to have. I like how well the author is able to weave the reader into a complicated love triangle. Even I had a hard time choosing one guy, I can't even imagine how Brooke is to pick one.

What really grabbed me about of this book are the emotions that reader feels. Ms. Kace did a great job in capturing the voice and emotions of a teenager. There is drama within a family, friends, and even more so, within Brooke herself. The growth of the character is another element in the story that I like seeing. She took hold of what she is, came to terms with it and rock it out. In the end, she is kick-butt gal!

Descended By Blood is one amazing story! With great characters that grow before your eyes, this is one book you must read. Ms. Kace wrote an book that anyone can get into and every one can fall in love with. Want a book with amazing writing, great characters, and two hotties? Read this book!

    A MUST READ!

Kace's debut novel, Descended by Blood, is an exceptional story that held me captive from start to finish. The novel begins as a traditional high school drama, complete with a young, budding relationship between Brooke and Jaren, but everything quickly spirals out of control as Brooke learns the truth about her heritage. Kace has written an extremely engaging, fast paced novel with multiple twists and turns, creating a riveting read that kept me up late into the night to finish it all in one sitting; it was so good I couldn't put it down! The novel honestly had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

I absolutely loved the character development within the story, and I truly felt like I personally knew the characters. The relationships were believable, and I highly enjoyed the love triangle that developed within the story. Both Jaren and Mirko, Brooke's love interests, are dreamy in their own right, and just like Brooke, I honestly can't choose between the two. This is perhaps the first time I haven't been able to choose a side within a novel, and I think that is a testament to Kace's sheer writing and characterization abilities.

I am extremely excited to read the sequel, Enemy Within, especially as Kace leaves the reader hanging at the conclusion of her epic novel, Descended by Blood. Five stars.

    A Solid Debut...

Descended By Blood by Angeline Kace is a solid debut. While I did have some issues with the storyline, the excitement of the plot kept me happily reading.

First of all, my main compliant lies with the main character, Brooke. Let's just say that she is incredibly melodramatic. I felt like she was crying every two seconds. She was definitely an emotional character. This was only worsened by the fact that Brooke's relationships formed at a breakneck speed. Brooke falls in love with two separate boys in an incredibly short span. First she dates Jaren for a few days then has a massive breakdown when she finds out that he may reconnect with his ex. Then, skip ahead a few weeks and they are head over heels in love. Then, Mirko is introduced, things get rocky with Jaren and suddenly she loves them both. I understand that it is possible to have feelings for more than one person at a time and I can even buy into the fact that "love" is easy to come by as a teenager. But I just cannot get behind the fact that Brooke falls for two guys so quickly and so completely. She doesn't really know either one, never mind the fact that she is constantly fighting for survival. Does she really have time to be worrying about her love life?

That being sad, I still do like Brooke and Mirko together. As a reader, I can go for the good boy or the bad boy. It really just depends on the specific relationship between the characters. And I really did not like the relationship between Brooke and Jaren. I did not really feel their chemistry and to be honest, he just really annoyed me. Jaren is the first to be introduced and as I read, I found myself waiting to see what was behind door number two. I knew there was a love triangle in the book and I could not wait to meet Mirko. While I said before, I feel the relationship between him and Brooke moved too quickly, I still feel they would be good together. Hopefully in the next book we will see more of the little things between them; see them slowly learn each other.

The story itself was fast-paced and full of excitement. Even though I did not exactly love Brooke, I still found the storyline intriguing. Kace introduces a complex vampire world that is incredibly fun to piece together and work out. I hope she expands on all the vampire politics in the upcoming sequel, because I found them utterly fascinating.

All things considered, I enjoyed Descended By Blood. While I found flaws with the story and characters, I still found it be entertaining. And when it comes down to it, isn't that what we want as readers? Sometimes your brain needs a vacation and you just want to escape into an excitement, thrilling world.

    Descended By Blood

For those of you who know me and/or have read my bio, I re-kindled my love of reading with a YA genre series (Twilight) and loved it so much! In my constant battle to retain my sanity & read everything I put my hands on, I haven't really been drawn to that particular genre lately. I think the fact that I have two teenagers of my own and get to deal with the daily dramas that ensue, that most of the time the last thing I want to do is read about more teenage angst in a book. However, when I saw this cover and read the synopsis I knew it was a must read.

Brooke is a 16-year-old high school junior who has never lived in one place more than a couple of years at a time. So when it seems her Mom has finally settled and is staying in VA, she is ecstatic. She can finally feel at home and start making some lasting ties & friendships. She begins a relationship with the star Lacrosse player, Jaren, something that she never before thought possible. Then her world is turned upside down and will never be the same.

Descended by Blood was a great, fast paced & energetic story, if that makes sense. There wasn't a dull moment in the book and the plot progressed beautifully from beginning to end. Brooke's character was very well written and showed tremendous growth from the beginning of the book to the end, but given everything that she went through that was definitely expected. However, she took everything in stride and showed a great sense of strength & courage, especially for someone her age. There were many times that I had to remind myself that I was reading a 16-year-old character. While I like both Jaren & Mirko, I have never been too fond of love triangles in books. I know the reasoning behind writing them, but sometimes the author can take it a little overboard. I did NOT think that was the case with this book. We get just the right balance and it offers up a little more suspense and anticipation for the reader. My only drawbacks for the story lie in the fact that I would have liked just a little more detail or back story. Parts of the book left me wanting more and I think the full potential of the scene or story were not fully realized. I particularly would love to know more of the history between Brooke's mother & father and it's quite possible we'll get that in the next book (keeping my fingers crossed). The other drawback is the abrupt ending. This, however, is strictly my own issue because I just really don't like even the hint of a cliffhanger, lol. All in all, this was a very good book and a series that I will continue to read & recommend!

Lots of action and a spirited heroine!

Brooke Keller has spent her life starting over moving from town to town. When she finally settles in one place long enough to really build a life, she is suddenly attacked by both a mountain lion and a fanged man! Brooke soon learns her mother has kept a very important secret from her, and she embarks on a journey to find the one responsible for her attacks. Quickly exploring a side of herself she never even knew existed, Brooke is required to risk her life as well as those she loves the most.

First of all, I love this cover! I love the subtle colors and the dark, edgy hair and the enigmatic feel of it all. It is a perfect introduction to what is held within the book. Kace develops each character and the overall story at a perfect pace. There is plenty of mystery and action so that it isn't all girly, love-triangle, teenage angst like a lot of the YA vampire books out there. Don't be alarmed about the love-triangle, it is very much in the background of the main flow of things. There's a little romance, but it really is all about Brooke finding out who she really is and setting out to learn more about herself and what is after her.

I think Mirko and Lijepa are my favorite characters. I just wish we had more explanation about how Mirko was made, and I wish there was more of Lijepa, period. Mirko definitely wins over Jaren for me. He obviously has the normal guy "primal" side, but he also has a sensitive, understanding side. And, well, he can kick some booty too.

Brooke is no weak heroine either, thank goodness! She has spunk and fire and strength, and I am loving that more and more these days. She is scared and confused, but she knows how to stand up for herself, even in the face of strong, angry vampires. She sets a wonderful example with her determination and self-sufficiency, something that has been rather hard to find in a lot of YA novels.

Gosh, I don't know what else to say about this great read! I just can't believe she left us hanging like that! I definitely can't wait for the next installment of the series.

    Fresh Take on Vampires

Brooke is enjoying her life at her new school. Having been moved around very often by her mom, Brooke is excited to finally be somewhere long enough to make friends. When the boy she likes finally goes out with here, it looks likes things are really going great. A close call with a mountain lion puts Brooke and her friend on edge though. When it becomes obvious that someone is after her, Brooke is soon thrown into a world she had no idea existed. She learns vampires are real, and she has a much closer connection to them than she ever knew. Whether this connection will be enough to save her or not is another question entirely.

I loved this book! Vampire books and romance books (or vampire books with romance) are not exactly at the top of my list of favorites. I was very pleasantly surprised. I think Brooke could have easily become a sort of mopey character, but happily she avoided that. Her strengths and abilities had to be worked on, which is a welcome change from "special" leads magically being awesome at everything. She had an awesome friend, and all the other characters were interesting too. Like many romances, Brooke's was rather fast, but it never felt too rushed. It made sense in the context of the story.

I really liked the vampires in this book. Vampires typically seem very parasitic, drinking blood from their victims by force. This also forces the victims to become vampires. The vampire/non-vampire relationship in this book was much more symbiotic, which makes it much easier to actually like the vampires you're supposed to like. This book had a lot of fun elements. I think it is super enjoyable, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Don't miss this great debut novel!

Brooke, I assure you, doesn't have an easy life. Her mother for some reason she can't understand doesn't like to stay too long in a place so she could never have real friends. But now things are a little different. She has spent a couple of years in the same little town, got a BFF and her secret crush is finally available! Life couldn't be better.

Until the day she helps her boyfriend, Jaren, to move to his new place... A man that had been following Brooke (something that she knew but feared to tell if it meant moving again) entered the apartment and told her to go with him. Of course Jaren tried to stop the man but the only thing he got was a horrible bruise in the head and then something very odd happened... Brooke went for the man with an incredible speed and strength and killed him.

Panic rushed upon her and after calling her mother, who told her to meet and talk at her uncle's house, Brooke discovers that she is far away from been normal and that they've been hiding all these years. Now she has to take Jaren and Kaitlyn (her BFF) and run away to meet with a guy, Mirko, who will protect her.

The story is well developed and each character is perfectly defined. Brooke is strong and nice but at the same time lacks confidence. Despite that she ends up with the hot guy who turns out to be... well, I'm not going to spoil anything but I'm 100% Team Mirko! He is just the perfect guy and I'm completely in love with him.

The only thing I didn't like to much: why, o why, a girl would think that being a vampire is like being a monster?! Please, tell me. The fact that Brooke kept thinking that (she being a monster) annoyed me a little bit... But, don't get me wrong, this book is a MUST read. When I finished it I couldn't stop pressing the buttons hoping that I would find more hidden pages... I seriously need to read the second book right now!

Go and buy it, I promise you will have a terrific time reading it ;)

The Action is FURIOUS and the romance is HOT

Descended By Blood is ACTION packed- awesome from the very first pages!!! *Gasp* I'm not even sure where to start! The beginning?

Brooke is wicked freaked out and more than a little confused, after a mountain lion in the woods nearly attacked her and her best friend Kaitlynn. What's even more upsetting is she's also sure she saw a MAN beckon this lion back to him after their near attack. (I know right?)

Just her luck that some creepy guy with a weird pet would start following her around when Jaren FINALLY decides to ask her out! Jaren and Brooke are so super cute together!!!

"Jaren tasted sweet like faded strawberry red vines and bliss."
~ Aww, their first kiss! Red vines?? EPIC Win.

While settling in at Jaren's apartment, the man from the woods comes to the door and DEMANDS Brooke go with him- to his 'Lady'. Jaren tries to protect her, but the man throws him off like a rag doll! Brooke goes all Matrix on him and KILLS the guy.

Brooke calls her mother, tells her what happened and her mom is surprisingly calm when she tells her to go immediately to her Uncle's house and they'll take care of everything. *gasp* Come to find out, Brooke's mother has been keeping a very BIG secret from her...

Brooke is HALF VAMPIRE, born from her father's lineage. Jaren freaks out when he hears the news, and tells her that he needs some time to 'think'... but whether he likes it or not, he's in it for the long haul because the vampires that are after Brooke will be after him too.

Her mother and uncle decide the best course of action is to put her in the capable hands of Mirko. Sexy, dark, hot, sexy, yummy, delicious, dangerous Mirko...

Kaitlynn, Jaren, Mirko and Brooke all get to the compound and Jaren suddenly gets all goobery over some other vamp chick and Brooke is not happy,

"If Ms. Georgia [referring to said vamps southern accent]wanted to play games with me, I would knock her tiara off her head so fast , she'd get whiplash."
~Brooke... yeah, she's fiesty and I LOVE it!

Mirko is to train Brooke and help her learn to protect herself in case of an emergency situation. Then after an 'incident' forces Brooke to take drastic measures in self-defense against another person inside the compound- they leave to seek training from a very old and respected vampire...

They find out Brooke's secret is much bigger than they originally thought it to be... Greed, hate, love, envy, romance... and death. You will not believe the ending of this book, Descended by Blood will leave you BEGGING for more!

    My Favorite Mirko Moments:

"I'm the man of your dreams. You just don't know it yet."
    ~Mirko...

"Will you mess up my bed with me?"
    ~Mirko...

He pulled away from me and cupped my head, stroking my outer ear lobe with his thumb.
"Please choose me." he pleaded. ~Mirko...

One of the best things about Descended By Blood was how REAL the characters felt to me. Kaitlynn and Brooke could have easily been my best friend and I in high school. They were so much fun and totally the perfect pair...

This book is a whirlwind of non-stop awesome! Seriously. The action is furious, the romance is HOT and the friendships are fabulous. Descended By Blood is absolute vamp perfection from Angeline Kace! I cannot WAIT for the second book!!

    An Exciting, Action-Packed Book

Descended by Blood is the exciting first book in the A Vampire Born trilogy by author Angeline Kace.

From the opening chapter of the book, the action and suspense get a firm grip on the reader's imagination and doesn't let go. Descended by Blood opens with an intriguing first chapter, showing the reader that main character, Brooke Keller, has a deadly secret, one she isn't even aware of. The secrets to Brooke's past continually unfold throughout the book, keeping the reader on the hook all the way to the last sentence.

Descended by Blood is filled with characters from both sides of the spectrum. Brooke is instantly endearing, you just can't help but like the girl. Even with all the obstacles she faces, she never comes across as whiny or annoying. Her best friend, Kaitlyn, is another character that I was drawn to. She was pretty much the perfect best friend. Always a shoulder for Brooke, always accepting. The "bad guys" are basically heartless and terrifying, with little regard for collateral damage.

However, I'm not completely on-board with the two guys vying for Brooke's affection. There wasn't, for me, a big choice. Jaren, who Brooke has wanted forever, kind of came across as, well, a jerk. He was very wishy-washy, someone Brooke can not rely on. Mirko, who becomes an ally to Brooke, is great. He's nice, tough, hot and totally dependable. It doesn't feel like it should be a huge decision for Brooke.

Angeline Kace is clearly a gifted writer. Her words flow like a good wine on a hot night. Seriously, the pacing of the narrative was brilliant. And the dialogue. Wow! The dialogue between the characters is spot-on. It never feels contrived or forced.

Bottom line? I thought Descended by Blood was a very good book, full of action, suspense and good characters. I'm excited to see what the author has to show with her next book.
