Destined [NOOK Book]

This is a great book!

A fabulous read... it is exactly like a re-telling of the Beauty and the Beast story! My 10 year old daughter read it and loved it!
I also want to clarify something, just in case anyone is worried about their child reading this. I wanted to make sure it was OK for my daughter, so I read this book before she did. There is nothing more, um, "romantic" than Psyche and Eros kissing... just to clarify this a bit in case they're worried. There is also very minor language. (Just the D-word used once or twice.) All in all this was a great book!

Loved it!

Amazing!! This is the first ever book I've read about Greek mythology! I've seen other books around like The Goddess Test, but I think Mythology in general never really interested me. My Kindle recommended this book to me because of all the other Indie Books i'd been buying at that time. I just bought it without even reading the synopsis...then i just started reading! After about 2 pages, I figured out the theme real quick, but i didn't shy away and I'm so glad i didn't!

This book was actually beyond amazing! It really blew me away especially considering my lack of passion for the subject matter. The story really struck a cord with my emotions! At times, i was sad, happy amused, dewildered, annoyed and even jealous! The characters that you are supposed to hate, I hated and the ones you are supposed to love, I loved them! The character's overall are were great and well developed. The one thing I really learned in this book is to never under estimate a scorn woman's wrath! HEHE... You should really read it!

Wow

Ok so i had this in my library for like 3 months without even reading it.... i am ome of those people who buy books that are cheap and sound sort of good anyways to the point... wen i actually started to read it i could not pit it down. I was like " HOW HAVE I NOT READ THIS EARLIER???" Total must-read:)

Awsome

This greek mythology based book has a juicey plot, characters, and setting! I highly recomend this book of romance! All it shows is true love, passion, and the risk that others will take for their true love!

Yay

I loved this book so much! Im an eleven year old and book was amazing. I love mythology,romance, and fiction books so i saod " hey, why not read a book with all three in them." An dit was an amazing book i recommoned this to anybody ages 10 and up. Maybe even 8 and up, of they are really good readers. But anyways. LOVED THIS BOOK! really touched my heart.
You can not escape what is destined!

I've never heard their story before. It started off as a hate

AMAZING!

Oh My Gosh! This book was AMAZING! I usually love greek mythology but I was a little hesitant to read this book. Once I did though I was hooked. This book gives you everything. It has vengeful gods, hot love intrests and huge conflicts. The love between Eros and Psyche was amazingly sweet and believable, the things that they do for each other just for a chance to be together is amazing. Eros is H.O.T!!! In the beginning you think that he is some conceited god but hes not he was hurt and thats just how he protects himself. Psyche is a good character, not my favorite but still, shes just a little naive sometimes and the things she does makes me want to punch her sometimes but once she sees what she did she actually changes. This book was so good and is a must read!

If you like Greek mythology, then I think you'll love this book.

If you like Greek mythology, then I think you'll love this book. So many of Greek mythology's best characters are in DESTINED. And seriously, I can't help but love how Ms. Harrell took all of my favorite Greek myths and incorporated them into this story to make them so stinkin' faulous!

The main protagonists Psyche and Eros--you may know him as Cupid--are great together! Psyche wins me over with the beauty of a goddess, but the kindness of a saint. She's definitely flawed, but not in a way that makes her unlikeable. Eros, on the other hand, can't seem to let go of his past. It's the standard, "she did me wrong, now all girls are evil", stance. But, I can, safely, say both of these two have the absolute best of intentions throughout the entire story, but it just seems like everything keeps going wrong for them!

But, if I'm going to be honest, my favorite surprise of this book was Aphrodite. I think she may just be the most complex character in the entire book. And the way she gets used as a tool to form this story, is flawless. Absolutely amazing.

The reason I didn't give DESTINED five stars is because I feel like if you are a stranger, in any way, to Greek mythology, you may miss out on this book. There are so many references to Greek myths in here that aren't EXACTLY explained that someone, NOT up on their Greek, may be confused.

FANTASTIC!!!

I read 95% of the book in one day. I was immediately sucked in and it was hard to put it down. The few hours I wasn't reading, I was thinking about it, speculating what would happen next.
Love, love, love it! I cannot wait to see what Jessie Harrell will come up with next. She is an amazing writer and story teller. I found her descriptions rich, enticing and more than abything, real. I was transported into her world of gods and enjoyed every bit of it.
Read it. It's a must!!

Amazingly good read!!!!!!

Captivating,thrilling, romance. It has all the works all taking place in mythological times. I loved it and read it in a day. Anyone who gives this book less than a four should get their priorities straight, because seriously it a down right good book. And its hard to get me interested into a book becuase i am a teen and its hard to find something that i like. READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to write a sequel to awner the following questions.

what happens when she tells her parents, Chara, and Maia about her being a godess?how does she adapt to her new life? Does she finally get to see Alexa and the other servants?

As you can see many questions are left unawnsered.

I think she needs to write a sequel to awnser these questions.

I like Greek myths. A lot. And I really really enjoy many retell

I like Greek myths. A lot.
And I really really enjoy many retellings of them. (I mean, I make it no secret that I’m absolutely crazy about the Percy Jackson books…)
But this book was somewhat of a let-down for me.

The Psyche and Eros myth is one of my favorites, but I just didn’t enjoy this retelling of it.
The ironic part is that I probably didn’t like it so much because it was written so much like an actual Greek myth.

Here’s the thing: Greek myths? Pure awesomeness. You get your epic battles, famous heroes, and all sorts of juicy scandals. But what you don’t get very often (hardly ever, really) is character depth.
You rarely get to really know a character—get inside their head and understand their thoughts. And that’s totally understandable because so man ystories were passed down orally, and let’s face it, you can’t make an oral story last hours and hours just to give a character some relatable-ness. In fact, it’s pretty much expected that many Greek mythological beings are flat characters.

This is why I usually like retellings—because the author can give the gods/goddesses/satyrs/nymphs/etc. real personalities. Make them relatable.

Unfortunately, I did not get this in Destined.

The characters were all very much one dimensional and I could not relate to any of them at all. Which, to be fair, may have been the author’s goal—retelling the story in a very traditional way. If it is, then bravo, Jessie Harrell, you have done a spectacular job.
I, personally, just didn’t really like this style of storytelling.
Eros starts off as an arrogant, privileged, snobbish god. Which he was supposed to be, because when he fell in love with Psyche, it’s literally like he had an entire personality makeover! He was head-over-heels in love with the girl, always worrying about her, trying constantly to make her happy, etc.—thinking about someone other than himself, for once.
While Eros, god of Love, didn’t exactly make me swoon in the book, he was okay. He did some sweet things... I didn’t exactly not like him.
I just had no idea what he saw in Psyche.
Let’s just say it’s pretty apparent that magic was used for him to be that infatuated with her.
Psyche was supposed to be this beautiful (check!), selfless (check-ish!), all-around wonderful human being (okaaaaay….). But most of the time, she just really got on my nerves.

Psyche was very naïve and easily influenced by just about everyone. She had no trouble jumping to awful conclusions about one of her friends, or Eros—believing him to be some monster that was readying her for dinner, when in fact, all signs pointed to exactly the opposite! It’s also quite evident that she’s been spoiled. Case in point: when she prepares to go on the journey that will placate Aphrodite and hopefully get Eros’s forgiveness, the first thing she does is go home and take a nice, hot bath and eat some awesome desserts.
O_O REALLY, Psyche? Really?
To be fair, I did want to be inside the character’s head…

I just really did not like what was inside Psyche’s cranium.
While this book really was not up my alley, I must admit that it stayed extremely true to the myth. It even took place in ancient Greece! (But, really, that just made it all the more awkward when the characters talked in a contemporary vernacular….) The story followed pretty much exactly what happened in the actual myth, just retelling it in a more modern, teen-oriented way.
If you like Greek myths/retellings, then this book might really interest you. Or it might not. I really do think it’s a personal preference kind of thing. For me, it just didn't work.

This book was a twist of Romeo and Juliet with Beauty and the Beast. It was a great read.
