Biography

Steve Berry first burst on the scene in 2003 and 2004 with The Amber Room and The Romanov Prophecy, a pair of twisty, adrenaline-laced thrillers with intriguing historical mysteries at their heart. Since then, Berry's novels have gone on to gather international momentum, earning spots on The New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and BookSense bestseller lists.

A practicing attorney, Berry has been writing since 1990. And although his undergraduate degree was in political science, it was his interest in history that led to him to writing international suspense thrillers. Simply put, the books he liked to read became the books he liked to write. He continues to wrap his novels in fascinating secrets, conspiracies, and mysteries from the past (religious prophecy, ancient manuscripts, lost treasure, Vatican intrigue, etc.), concocting dandy plots his readers love to unravel.

Berry credits the nuns who taught him in Catholic school with instilling the discipline needed both to craft a novel and to find a publisher. Indeed, he claims to be the poster child for stick-to-itiveness: It took him 12 years and 85 rejections to finally sell a manuscript to Ballantine Books! Clearly, his perseverance has paid off. Today, his novels appear in 43 countries and 41 languages worldwide.

    Berry Does It Again

As he did in the Balkan Escape, Steve Berry uses the e-book short story to introduce an important character in his forth coming The Jefferson Key, adding additional background and motivation that he may not have had room for in the novel. Jonathan Wyatt, a former agent, feels he was wronged by Christopher Combs and Cotton Malone and has vowed revenge.

In this short story (40ish pages) Wyatt follows Combs to South America planning the exact moment but then becomes curious about Combs motivation for being there. Who else has a history of finding there way to South America .....Nazis! Berry packs a lot of action and history into the story while creating a character that continue into next month's Jefferson Key. Although a short story, Devil's Gold is completely satisfying but leaves you anxious to continue Wyatt persuit of Cotton Malone.

This has got to be the best $.99 you'll ever spend.

    Good read

I've never read Steve Berry before. Someone recommended his books and I figured $0.99 for the short story would be a great place to start. It was a good read and I'm interested in reading more from him.

    Short and Sweet

"The Devil's Gold" By Steve Berry is a short fictional eBook original. The book follows one of the characters in Mr. Berry's books on a short adventure.

Jonathan Wyatt, once known as "Sphinx" has been waiting and plotting for years to kill Christopher Combs and Cotton Malone, the two Federal agents who he blames for his dismissal from the service. However, Wyatt makes an astounding discovery in a remote South American village that stretches back decades.

"The Devil's Gold" By Steve Berry is another short story previously in which one of the characters, Jonathan Wyatt, of his novels goes on a sidetrack adventure. The book actually takes place before Mr. Berry's latest creation, "The Jefferson Key".

I enjoyed this book very much, it is short but tells a great alternative history story of what happened to Eva Braun. I'm sure Mr. Berry could easily write a whole book just about that subject alone.

Even thought the story is very short (less than 40 pages) it is very entertaining and certainly holds its own. It is fast paced and thrilling. One could even view this book as the teaser sequence before the main book.

Wow! You don't want to miss this one!

What an imagination (or not.) It seems like this could explain a lot. Ol' Steve can really make you think and ponder whether our history is real or just written by the victors.
