    The Doll's House

In The Doll¿s House, by Rumer Godden, Tottie Plantaganet is a wooden farthing doll bestowed upon Emily and Charlotte Dane from their great Aunt Laura. Tottie tells her doll family about the old dollhouse she previously lived in, and all the beauty it possessed. To the family¿s amazement, Emily and Charlotte become heirs to the dollhouse however, they also inherit Marchpane, a porcelain and haughty doll. The family must overcome Marchpane¿s attempts to keep them out of the house, so they can live as they have always dreamed. The book appeals to young girls, rather than boys, because contains dolls (two of which are male) and dollhouses. I was fond of this book because it brought back memories of my childhood when I played with dolls. This is an outstanding book for someone with imagination and wishful thinking.

    FINALLY!!!!

I must have read this book 10 times when I was in elementary school, it was my favorite! But as a child, I never thought to look to see who the author was and over the years, I forgot the name of the book. Thank Goodness, I found it because I now have a daughter of my own and not only do I want to read it to her, I can't wait to read it for myself again!!!!

    memories

I read this book when i was 9 years old and instantly fell in love with it. i only read it once (it was in my school library) but never found it again i remember making my own little dolls house and cutting up newspapers for my dolls like the little girl in the book.I never knew who wrote it. i read many rumer godden books when i was in middle school. As her books are hard to find i was researching on the net and was pleasently suprised to find that the author of many of my favourite books (kingfishers catch fire, Black narcisuss) during my teens also wrote one of the stories which helped me to fall in love with books. At 17 i can say that this book is for every little girl who fantasises about her dolls lives...

Fond memories of my favorite childhood book

I'm in my mid twenties and I read this story as a little girl too. I checked it out of the library at my elementary school. It was my favorite. I read it several times. I have my own daughter now and I wanted for her to read it as well. I am truly surprised to even see that it is still available and that there are at least a few people from my age group who still remember it. It's a rather timeless book and as captivating today as it was when I read it.

    I love this book

This is my very favorite book from my childhood. I am now 22 years old and can remember every page of this book. I still own this book, the original red cover is a little faded but I could never part with it. I recomend this book to all little girls, and women who would like to relive some childhood memories. I just can't believe there is another person who still has this book who is around my age.

    My Favorite

I am a 20 year old female who read this book as a child. This is the best book for any little girl who loves dolls. I still own this book and will one day give this to my own child. It is a very splendid book and lets the reader get a look of what it would be like to 'live as a doll'. This was the first book I ever read and I can still remember the whole story. If you have a little girl who is very into dolls, I would definately buy it right away. It's wonderful and full of imagination.
