ALL'S FAIR IN LOVE

Harrington’s emotionally gripping Regency-era debut, which launches the Secret Life of Scoundrels series, is ripe with drama and sizzling romance. Stephen Westover, Duke of Strathmore, was killed when Phillip Benton drunkenly raced his phaeton directly into the path of Stephen’s carriage. Stephen’s brother, Edward, inherits the dukedom and demands that Benton sign over all of his possessions in recompense for Stephen’s death. After agreeing to become guardian to Benton’s daughter, Katherine, Edward is surprised when he discovers that she is not a child but a beautiful woman. The physical attraction between Edward and Katherine is evident from their first meeting, and Edward soon begins to admire Katherine for her unusual devotion to her servants and her determination to medically assist the residents of the nearby village. But as they start to trust each other, unfortunate circumstances force them apart. The complex relationship between Edward and Katherine is intense and skillfully written, complete with plenty of romantic angst that propels the novel swiftly forward. This new author is definitely one to watch. Agent: Sarah Younger, Nancy Yost Literary Agency. (Dec.)

I enjoyed this read. Both man characters were strong. But i loved katherine. She was strong, kind, loving, and a doctor. She would not that our brooding hero push her around. There are few books that i want to read the next book, but this is one. This is an entertaining, worthy read.

In her debut book you really can't ask for more. I love Edward and Kate and I cannot say more about their fiery spunk than WOW! I love a dark brooding man with a secret and Edward fits all of those so well. I love the quick witted banter and the writing had me laughing out loud much to people's amusement. The clever characters, the storyline and of course all of the steamy bits made for an amazing read.

A very fun, deliciously indulgent read filled with clever, quick-witted banter, as well as heart-wrenching turmoil between the hero and heroine. Edward and Katherine's tumultuous romance always kept me on the edge of my seat. I found myself so engrossed that I had actually been reading for 3 hours straight without even realizing it! I also LOVED the supporting characters of Edward's aunt and two best friends from the military as well. I was happy to learn this is a trilogy with the next two books focusing on Edwards war buddies - who are also manly and their humor sharp and astute. Can't wait to read those books too!! Finally, the romance scenes between Edward and Katherine was naught and intriguing. The combination of the clever characters, the quick-paced plot, and the saucy love scenes made this book a perfect storm of a delectable read.

“I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.” What a story. This couple has so much fire. This book had so much emotion. I absolutely loved it. I was laughing at the banter between Edward and Kate. I was even tearing up at certain points. This book drags you in and you do not want to stop reading. I am so looking forward to reading the rest of this series. This book is on my keeper shelf.

This book had A LOT of potential, but I just didn’t enjoy the romance as much as I was hoping. I just think that the romance was a bit awkward between Edward and Kate. So even though it was yummy and sexy (which is just how I like my romances) it just seemed to come out of nowhere. I mean, Edward is a man who has been hurt and I’m just not all that sure he would be finding himself swept up by anyone he has just met. Seems odd. I did very much enjoy both Edward and Kate though! Such great characters, which is why I think this book had way more potential. The plot was amazing, and for that alone I would recommend this book. It was an enjoyable book, not the best but certainly not the worst and I could tell the author really loved writing it! *I received a complimentary copy of the book from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

A great beginning to a new series and a fresh new author with real writing skills! Romance novels are not my usual genre, but this was recommended highly by a friend, soo I decided to give it a try and I'm very glad I did. The plot is complex and suspenseful, with unexpected twists and turns, the characters are well-developed, complex and completely believable. I very much enjoyed the historical setting and thought it thoroughly believable. I am definitely looking forward to more of this series and perhaps some additional series and/or individual works from this author, as I have a feeling she can bring similar believability to other subjects and situations as well.

A sweet and salty romance. Anna Harrington is an author that will be on my radar regularly in the future. I requested an ARC if Dukes are Forever in exchange for an honest review. Ms. Harrington's work is a cross between Gone with the Wind and Beauty and the Beast. In Kate she found a character that was not a weakling but was forced to endure having little to no control over her circumstances. I liked her because her personality was one of a fighter. She would not let herself be taken advantage of. Didn't like Edward, AT FIRST. The hotheaded temperament he had made him come off as a jerk to me. His emotions led him to make some questionable choices. I did not like how he tried to railroad Kate. Dukes are Forever was wild, seductive, imaginative and bedazzling. I enjoyed it and look forward to hearing more from this author.

London - 1815 Colonel Edward Westover, the Duke of Strathmore, is focused on ruining Phillip Benton who was responsible for the deaths of his brother and sister-in-law in a carriage accident. Benton was very drunk when his carriage ran into theirs killing them instantly. Since then, Edward has sought revenge by taking everything Benton has, including his daughter, Katherine. Benton lost a gambling game to Edward which gave him control of Katherine’s home and made him her guardian. The home is quite bare from her father selling off everything he could get his hands on for ready cash for his gambling. The home had been left to Katherine by her now deceased mother. There are just a few old retainers left to help run the home. Katherine has always had an interest in medicine and has become a great help to surrounding people who cannot afford a doctor. Her methods are modern and she is a great believer in cleanliness. When Edward arrives at her home, he finds a grown woman and not a child as he had expected. He immediately tells her that he will control everything, including her. Losing control of her independence she has grown used to, grates heavily on her. Seeing the sparse ways in which she has been living, Edward hires a new estate agent who quickly arranges for new furnishings and food to fill the larder. In addition, he gives generous pensions to the old retainers which will allow them to retire. Edward tells Katherine that if she disobeys him, he will retract the pensions for the old retainers and send her to his home estate. Their initial animosity toward one another soon sparks into an almost animal magnetism which results in passion. But Edward cannot let go of his bossy ways so when Katherine angers him again, he sends her to his desolate estate, Greymoor, hoping to break her. Is there any hope for this relationship? Can two very stubborn people come together to form a bond? This story had promise but I did not like Edward. I kept hoping this control freak would learn to let go of his need for dominance, but he doesn’t. Katherine irritated me because she accepts this. If you like the 'caveman dragging the woman by the hair to the cave scenario” this book is for you. Copy provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
