Nancy Meyers' romantic comedy Holiday stars Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as two women who exchange houses in order to get a new lease on life. After each suffers her fair share of romantic disappointments, Englishwoman Iris (Winslet) and L.A. woman Amanda (Diaz) meet on-line at a website devoted to helping people exchange houses for vacations. Each agrees to spend the Christmas holiday at the other's home. While each suffers from a minor case of culture shock, both women also end up becoming involved with a man. Iris makes the acquaintance of an upbeat everyman played by Jack Black, while Amanda spends time with a handsome Brit played by Jude Law. Both women must decide what to do with these new relationships as their pre-arranged house switch is scheduled to last less than two weeks.

And its also kind of sweet. To be honest while all the actors did great. I think my favorite has to be Kate Winslet and Jack Black. They were adorable in this and their characters make a cute couple. Noticed that their not much in the movie. Still, it is a cute romantic comedy.
Cameron Diaz and Jude Law; Kate Winslet and Jack Black: they are the best together. I wish that this would happen in real life! I ABSOLUTLEY ADORE IT!!!! This puts Sense and Sensibility to misery. Get it as soon as you can!!!!!
This was exactly what a romantic movie should be...This is what any movie should be...Funny...Touching...Different locations and not stuck in one place which can make the movie feel claustrophobic...I loved this movie and can not wait to watch it over and over and over....Kate winslet shines as a down her luck when it comes to relationships woman...
I love this movie! It is a great chick flick. I think the story line is great and is also good for a good laugh. It's a great moview for you single ladies that need to find yourself and get rid of that one guy that you have a crush on but just can't seem to get over because he just can't decide what he wants. For sure worth the buy! Set around Christmas time, but good to watch anytime. Great cast! Many o fmy friends also have recommended this and loved it. Looking for something you can sit on the sofa and watch in your PJs and with your best friends and some wine? Then this is the movie for you!
I love this movie. It has a great story line to it. It's very cute and loveable. I can watch it over and over again and not get sick of it.
When combine Cameron Diaz,Kate Winslet,Jude Law, and Jack Black it becomes a true holiday. There are lots of good moments in this movie and little bit of bad moments.I love the chemistry between the two couples in the movie because you have Jude Law and Cameron Diaz as somewhat like Romeo&Juliet characters. With Kate Winslet and Jack Black they are characters from Tuck Everlasting because he is the fun loving guy who shows her that she is important to him and that is true love. The movie is a great romantic comedy that I recommended.
I was hesitant to watch this at first. The movie trailer didn't make me want to rush to the theater to see it. However, I am so glad I did. I now consider this not only one of my favorite romantic comedies but just one of my favorite movies! This move is filled with old-fashion charm and present day wit.
this movie was so great, it made me laugh and cry and everything in between, once it comes out on DVD i'm getting, i loved this movie
I was surprised. Very surprised. The cast in this movie is so addictive. The story is very well played out. It is funny, sad, heart breaking, and great fun. I couldn't recommend this fantastic romantic comedy enough.
This is a story that has truth and is quite relatable. The two women Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslett are brilliant in their roles. They are fun and loveable. The portrayal of the story is excellently done. The cottage scenes in the UK are so idyllic. Jude Law is handsome and hot. His character is so outstanding and interesting. This really leads to a lively romantic comedy. I really enjoyed Jack Black in this film. I have seen him in others and didn't appreciate his performances. He was really lovable in his performance as the man Kate Winslett meets in L A . I especially enjoyed Kate and her interaction with the neighbor played by Eli Wallach. This was very heartwarming. It was so classic old Los Angeles history in Film making. Loved the movie! High recommendations!
Watched it several times and enjoyed it every time. Jude Law and Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and Kate Winslet are fantastic and funny in this movie. Eli Wallach still got it! The story line was enjoyable and wonderful to follow. Great writing.
This is one of the best romantic comedy movie since 'When Harry Met Sally'! It is so well done, and it is very funny, relatable, and just awesome good quality movie! This is a diffenately a must-see and it should be on your list!! More of a girl-movie then a guy-girl movie but of course guys can enjoy it to. Amanda Woods is a very typical American girl/woman living in LA ( has a job as a movie trailer maker) where she has recently had a break-up with her long term boy friend after she found out he was cheating on her. SCreaming in rage and trying to cry (she hasn't shed a tear since she was 15) she decides she wants to go on a holiday, something she hasn't done in many years. As this is happening, in England, Iris ( i forgot her last name) who is working for the newspaper company is trying to get over her love for her boss who has just engaged to another woman. Iris has been watching her love over 3 years trying to figure out what has she done wrong? So when her love announced to the whole company he is engaged, she feels like she has been used and she has just wasted 3 whole years of her life on this man that will never apperciate her. So, she puts her very cute english cottage up for vacation rental and hoping that the person who is willing to rent the place for the holiday will do a home exchange since she desperately needed to get out of England and breathe in some new air. Amanda finds Iris's advertisement and IMs her which Iris immediately responds to and just a few paragraphs and they are on for a home exchange! Iris flies to LA, and Amanda flies to England. Both find the most unexpected love of their lives at the most unlikely places. I highly recommend this movie for all Romantic-comedy lovers, or just comedy! It is deffinately a feel good movie
Perfect blend of humor and bitter-sweet romance. I've been waiting for this release since I went to see it at the movies in December. Strongly recommended!
This has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Jack Black each do a magnificent job playing their characters and they futher the plot naturally. You'll find yourself crying, laughing, and urging for love all at the right times. Each scene was breath-taking shot and I felt like I had to go to every single place in the film. The soundtrack also stood out. The music was written in a great flowing manner and it helps add to the emotional intensity of the film. If you're looking for a great movie for your next movie night, see this! I guarantee you there is something for everyone!
I won't go into a lot of detail on the plot in this one, because so many already have before me, and it's not as if there isn't a synopsis of it on the page, but all I can say is that I was extremely entertained by this picture. It was light hearted, kind, funny, and emotional all rolled into one, and the cast was well chosen. If you want something witty, light hearted, and refreshing...give this movie a watch. It's a perfect movie to kick back in front of on a quiet evening, with the fire place going...if you have a fire place that is. It will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
i thought this movie was funny and romantic a movie definitly worth watching.
There are only a handful of movies that I like to watch again and again. This movie is one that I grab on those occasions I wish to just "enjoy" a movie. The four main actors are so great in their roles, as if each role was written especially for them. This is a Christmas movie that is certainly not just for the Yuletide season...You will not be disappointed by purchasing it even if you have never seen it before.
This is a charming film. I am not a fan of Jude Law however is the film he is extremely likable. I would have preferred more time spent on the Winslet/Black romance but overall this was enjoyable to watch!
Have you ever seen a movie and you want to see it over and over again? The Holiday is just that kind of movie. This movie is about two women Iris and Amanda who are played by Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz respectively. Amanda, a Los Angeles workaholic has just kicked her boyfriend out of her house because he cheated on her with his secretary and now she feels that she in dire need of change. At the same time Iris, a British newspaper journalist finally realizes that the man she has been pining for for over three years does not love her. She learns that he is engaged and is devastated. She has lost who she believes is the love of her life and now can not seem to put the pieces back together. Amanda goes online and finds a really cool website where she can basically switch house and lives with someone on the other side of the world. Amanda and Iris meet online and decide to swap lives for two weeks, just to get away from all that has been happening in their respective lives. Once in each others homes, Amanda thinks that she has made a huge mistake and tries to book a flight back to the life she has left. However, she soon changes her mind. Graham, played by Jude Law enters and suddenly things are looking up for Amanda. He sweeps her off of her feet in what they both expect to be a one night stands but it turns out to be a lot more. Iris too is having a great time in LA. She becomes friends with Amanda’s neighbor and also a renowned screenwriter. This relationship is what helps her move on from her failed relationship. She meets composer Miles who is played by Jack Black and he sweep her off her feet. Both women have entered new relationships in which they are happy and in love. However, they both have to soon go back to their lives and are faced with a decision. This movie is right up there with Nancy Meyers other movies namely What Women Want and Something’s Got to Give. Meyers have earned my respect for pulling off a movie that has two different plots. Two romance stories in one. This is definitely a treat for anyone who is a fan of romance comedies. It has the perfect blend of comedy and romance. I found it hilarious that Amanda jumps out of the limousine that was to take her to the airport and runs back to Graham’s place in the snow in very high heels. I also found in delightful when Miles makes a special song for Arthur (Amanda’s neighbor) so that he can have confidence when he goes onstage to receive his lifetime achievement award. This was funny because as soon as he hears the song its like he got new life and was able to overcome the flight of stairs. Plus the song was so cheerful that you couldn’t help but laugh. It was very romantic in that Amanda was willing to run in heels to Graham’s house and that she really bonds with Graham’s children. It is also very romantic that Iris decides that her decision of whether to leave for England can wait until after the New Year. This movie is definitely not the typical girl meets guy movie in that both of these women are not actively looking for love. In fact they are trying to avoid it as this is the exact reason why they both have switched lives. They both are not spending their time pinning that they do not have a boyfriend. They are just having a good time and love finds them. Also, what it not typical is the relationship that developed between Miles and Iris. No one would ever guess that they would be in a relationship. This is just a few of the things that make this movie not fall into the typical routine of boy meets girl. It is because of this that I would have to say that this movie has a story line that would keep anyone glued to their seats. It certainly kept me glued to mine. This movie is funny, lighthearted and good all round entertainment for the entire family. The Holiday reminds of Roman Holiday- one of Andrea Hepburn’s movies in which she plays an Egyptian princess who tries to get away fro
