Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Craig Butler
The Thrill of It All is an appealing (if terribly lightweight) little comedic confection, the kind of film that's the equivalent of a nice mid-day snack. A viewer looking for more substantial fare will definitely need to look elsewhere, as will those with a low tolerance for manufactured situations, a slight tendency toward cutesiness, or some dated feelings about gender roles. But for viewers who don't mind if situation setups are really based in reality, so long as they pay off in a decent laugh; who are won over by the grins and pouts of four-year-old children; or who can accept gender double standards as part and parcel of the period, Thrill should provide plenty of enjoyment. Certainly scripters Carl Reiner and Larry Gelbart know a thing or two about the mechanics of comedy writing and the likes of Doris Day and James Garner are expert at playing for both the humor and the warmth. Throw in some fine support from Arlene Francis, ZaSu Pitts, and (in a very small role) Alice Pearce, as well as smooth and professional Norman Jewison direction, and you've got a pleasing, if totally insignificant, way to spend a couple of hours.

One Of My Favorite Doris Day Movies!

The Thrill of it All is one of my favorite Doris Day movies! I always have a hard time choosing which I like better, this or Pillow Talk so I guess I like them the same, equally! This movie is very cute, charming and funny and Doris Day and James Garner are both superb and the supporting cast is very good too and the child actors who play Doris Day's and James Garner's children are adorable. BTW: The little girl who played their daughter was in the movie The Sound of Music. She played Gretl Von Trapp.

One of the best on-screen couples...

Growing up, I've always been a fan of both James Garner and Doris Day, and I always felt that her best movies were done with him playing her husband. The ever-charming pair have chemistry that is unmistakable, and James Garner's sex-appeal could rival even Sean Connery's.

    A fun classic!

This classic was bought as a giftin VHS format, and the recipientwas simply thrilled! She doesn'thave DVD and loves light-heartedmovies. The combination of DorisDay and James Garner is heart-warming. The story captures ourculture/society from a now passéera. It brought back memories tothe one I gave this to, and thepicture is now a time-capsule.

    Girls just love Doris Day!

I love this Doris Day classic! My daughters, ages 17 and 21, also love it, as they do any Doris Day movie. This romantic comedy is fun, clean and entertaining! The chemistry between Doris and James Garner is great and the story is well written. I grew up watching Doris on the big screen, my children grew up watching her on re-runs and VHS. Now they plan to share her with their children on DVD!
