Overview

Sparks fly when a hardboiled reporter meets a handsome senator. But a political scandal—and attempts on her life—could drive them apart. Or maybe adversity could draw them into a bond even more intense than their steamy sexual embraces.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Meet Kara McMillan, single mother, investigative reporter, and romantic cynic. Inspired by three margaritas on a Friday night, Kara throws caution to the winds in a chance encounter with Senator Reese Sheridan at the skankiest bar in Denver. Their passionate affair starts quickly, even as Kara begins an investigation into a major environmental scandal, aided by a mysterious whistle-blower. Just as Kara begins to open up her heart, her discoveries prompt anonymous threats to her life and that of her young son, Connor. The suspense mounts as Kara is whisked away to a remote safe house that turns out to be anything but. In portraying Kara's life and predicament, Pamela Clare uses her own experience as an award-winning journalist to great effect. The investigation is fast-paced and detailed; the newsroom scenes, lively; and the newspaper editor who doesn't understand the demands on a single mother, very believable. Ginger Curwen

    Great read

    ## i enjoyed this book very much. The two lead characters had great chemistry and the story was intriging. The only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5, was because i felt there was a little too much political mumbo jumbo. But the hero was perfect and the sex was hot!

    Will leave you satisfied!!!

Investigative Reporter Kara McMillan is in a night club waiting on her friend Holly and drinking margaritas. With liquid courage Kara walks up to a State Senator she recognized in the bar and before she can stop herself she says his name. Senator Sherridan offers her another drink and she accepts. Next thing she knows a blonde bombshell shows up as Sherridan's dinner companion. Kara feels shot down as he goes into the restaurant to eat with the other lady. Finally Kara's friend shows up and they go into the restaurant to gossip about men and sex. By this time Kara is very tipsy.

Reminiscing about what she liked best about a sexual relationship Kara divulges some very risque things only to be overheard by the Senator. With seeing the humor in what Kara is saying he has a seat and chats with the ladies. Kara's friend decides to leave, she is hoping that Kara will have a great night with Sherridan. Stuck with no drive or money for a cab Kara gladly accepts Sherridans offer for a drive home. When home she invites him in but he declines because he knows she is intoxicated but he really had to fight himself not to indulge.
The next day Kara gets sucked into the story of a lifetime, environmental hazards, big money and cover-ups. Action packed and full of twists and turns this book will suck you in!

I really enjoyed this book, it had just the right amount of suspense, action and romance. Kara is a believable character. Mother, career woman and investigator she really brings the story alive with her loving nature to her son and gumption to revealing the truth. The hero, Senator Sherridan is a hunk with a heart and yours will just melt as you learn more and more about him throughout the story. With many twist and turns this book will keep you reading late into the night and have you feeling anxious for what will happen next.
Don't give up a chance to read this book, the story is truly worth reading and the ending will leave you very satisfied. I give this book a heartfelt 5 stars!

    Great book!

I came across this author in one of those recommended books list based on previous purchases. The blurb for the book sounded good, so I cautiously, and with little expectations bought the #1 book in the I-Team series. I wasn't disappointed. It was fast paced, exciting, and steamy all in one. Great read for those who like an excellent story with their romance/steamy reads.

I don’t know why I let this gem languish in TBR country for so long. I thoroughly enjoyed the origin story of I-Team. Specifically getting to know intrepid investigative environmental reporter Kara McMillan & Colorado State Senator Reece Sheridan. Sparks definitely flew off the page when these two got anywhere near close to each other. The charisma of each and the chemistry of them together was a great mix. Also the secondary characters were more than utilitarian and meatier than secondary characters usually are in an origin story.

Ms. Clare has chops and wasn’t afraid to put them to work here. The plot is intricate enough to make those not concerned about the environment care and those not into romance plots care enough to be concerned if the leads don’t find a HEA. I also enjoyed remember the difference between the villain and the culprit. The palpable thrill or imminent danger and the intricacy of the suspense itself ensured as a reader I could understand what was at stake.

This was easily a book that made me want to read it in one sitting. Bottom Line: We should all have such a hero as Reece and be as resourceful and strong as Kara – I am so on board for the remainder of this series.

Excellent read! I couldn't put it down!

Someone recommended Pamela Clare's I-Team series to me, so I started with book 1, Extreme Exposure. Halfway through I knew I'd be buying the rest of the series. Ms. Clare keeps you on the edge of your seat & does a great job with character development too. I highly recommend this series!

    Couldn't put it down!!

I've been looking for another author to read while waiting, (with great anticipation), for the new release from my favorite author. My B&N associate told me that I would probably enjoy reading Pamela Clare's works. She was SO RIGHT!! I read it in a day! I hated to put it down, even for a second! The characters and siuations were so gripping. I felt lost in the story. It was truly one of the most enjoyable reads I've had! I finished it 13 minutes ago and already downloaded #2. I can't wait to read about Tessa!!

Not to the extreme...but a good start

Kara McMillan, a reporter for Independent Denver and a member of its I-team (investigative reporters), is approached by a potential whistleblower to expose his employer for illegal and harmful waste disposal. She not only is able to substantiate his claims but finds that the corruption extends beyond the company to include state elected officials and government agencies. Kara is also a single mother with a four-year old son. She meets state senator Reece Sheridan following an embarrassing "tipsy" encounter with him at a bar during a night out with her best friend. Reece takes her home but leaves her at the door and follows up for a more sobering encounter and from there the sparks fly. Kara hasn't been in a relationship since her disasterous relationship with her son's father, who wants no part of her or her son. She's vulnerable but Reece is persistent and committed. The investigation into the corruption around the illegal waste disposal was interesting and somewhat suspenseful. However, it wasn't too tough to figure out the potential suspects, though their nastiness did provide some tension to the romance between Kara and Reece. He's a really good guy but lacked any flaws to make him more interesting and credible. Kara has a lot of baggage that seemed to dissipate pretty quickly, which didn't seem realistic for the time frame. I enjoyed this book but it was a little low on the suspense meter. There are some really steamy moments between Kara and Reece, even though their romance may have moved a bit quickly. Even so, I'd recommend this book and intend to continue the series. My rating is 3.5 ?s

A new title for my Keeper Shelf!

Blurb: It's been years since her child's father dumped her and since then Kara McMillian has kept men at bay-althought every day she aches more for a lover's touch. But to get that, the hard-boiled journalist must become vulnerable-a feeling she vowed to never have again.
With his dangerous good looks, charm, and power, Senator Reece Sheridan could have just about any woman he sets his piercing eyes on. But he's intrigued by only one. This Kara, the gutsy investigative reporter, has a sensuality that arouses him to no end. If he's a firebrand in print, he guesses, she must be as fiery in bed...
But this is no fling. A sudden political scandal-and attempt on Kara's life-could very well drive them apart. Or maybe, just maybe, adversity could draw them into a bond even more intense than their steamy sexual embraces
    --
It is safe to say that I have found a new title for my Keeper Shelf! This book was absolutely gripping from page one to the very end. The heroine is an investigative journalist who gets involved with a corporate whistleblower - wow, a plotline I've never read before! This book was gritty and its easy to tell Clare did her research. The characterizations were spot on and the storyline was engaging. I cannot recommend Extreme Exposure enough! Ana, www.ireadromance.com

    I Also Recommend:

    Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare

I burned through Pamela Clare's "Extreme Exposure" like a chocoholic after a year's drought. I'm torn as to whether I liked this one even more than "Hard Evidence" which is book two of the 'I-Team' series, but the one I read first! I love the fact that these books are gripping romantic suspense, yet still believable. The characters are wonderfully flawed and the relationships are complex and seriously HOT.

It's been longer than reporter Kara wants to think about since she's had sexual contact with anything other than plastic. But when her friend drags her to a local bar and Kara runs into local congressman Reece, her curiosity combined with a bit too much alcohol, sets off an interview of the more personal sort with the handsome state Senator. She knows it's a bad idea for an investigative reporter to get involved with a state senator, but Reece won't give up and Kara can't seem to say no to him. When their careers collide in scandal, Kara will have to be brave enough to fight for her man...or they could both end up dead.

Once again, I can't say enough great things about this author. She just needs to write faster! I'm stuck now waiting for the third novel in this series to arrive in the mail and then I'll be tapping my toes in anticipation of "Naked Edge" which has been pushed back to a November 2009 release...bummer!

    Jennifer Wardrip - Personal Read

Author Pamela Clare has called on her own experiences as an investigative reporter to write a stunning romantic suspense story that takes you into the world of corruption, high stakes government, and reckless abuse of power. A story that's part romance, part action-adventure, and part police procedural, EXTREME EXPOSURE is a roller-coaster ride that will have you turning pages long into the night.

For single mother Kara McMillan, finding a man hasn't been a top priority for several years. The only problem is that her body is urging her otherwise, and Kara has to admit that five years without a man-and without sex-has been about five years too long. Her friend Holly's advice? Go to a bar, have a few drinks, find someone you want to spend the night with, and make your intentions known. For Kara, whose life has revolved around nothing but her son, Connor, and her job, journalism, Holly's advice is easier said than done.

Unfortunately-or fortunately, depending on how you look at it-after one too many margaritas in that bar crowded with fine male specimens, a man enters who has all of Kara's juices flowing-the private and the professional ones. State Senator Reece Sheridan is a man to be admired, feared, or lusted after; depending on which side you fall upon. For Kara, this smooth-talking, well-dressed man who could be a male model is a cause for alarm-he gets her bells ringing, and it's been a long, long time since that happened.

A drunken conversation about sex in a crowded bar somehow leads to an invitation for a date, and Kara finds herself growing more and more attracted to Reece. And as their relationship develops to the next level, Kara finds herself on the other side of the newspaper for once-there's a lot of public interest in her relationship with the Senator, not all of it good. Someone is urging her to investigate her lover in something more sinister than having Reece get to know her son; something, in fact, that might have Reece Sheridan as a government official abusing his power in the Senate, and doing things that are strictly illegal-not to mention dangerous.

Suddenly both their reputations are on the line-Reece's as a Senator, Kara's as a reporter and a mother. Can the fact that their growing attraction, admiration, and respect have grown even deeper save them from the storm of bad publicity around them? And why is someone so desperate to see Reece Sheridan removed from the Senate?

Kudos to Ms. Clare for such a great story! An innovative and intriguing story line made better by real life characters, EXTREME EXPOSURE is a hot, sexy novel that has enough twists and turns to keep everyone satisfied. Romantic suspense that's heavy on details that only a true reporter would know, I highly recommend this book.

    A wonderful investigative tale

Denver Independent investigative report Kara McMillan is as tough a journalist as there is. However, inside she has doubts especially when it comes to relationships with men accentuated by the father of her child walking out on them. Colorado State Senator Reece Sheridan admires Kara as a reporter, but also wants to make love with her, believing that underneath her armor is a passionate woman waiting for the right man. He wants to be the right man........................ As he tries to penetrate her shield, she reluctantly begins to give into the attraction she feels by sleeping with the enemy, a politician. However, the highly ethical senator is soon embroiled in a scandal that Kara needs to report on a nearby Adams County plant brazenly violating environmental laws spewing pollutions into the air and water. As Kara¿s investigates, pressure on her lover to get her to stop mounts while others go a more direct route to end heir inquiries including killing her if need be........................................... EXTREME EXPOSURE is a wonderful investigative tale with plenty of red herrings and terrific twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seats. The Denver area is cleverly described so that the audience will think they are a mile high in the Rockies yet the lush descriptions enhances the mystery. With all that clearly the reason this is must reading for the suspense crowd lies in wondering whether Reece is the heroine¿s friend and lover or her worst nightmare............................... One of the best romantic suspenses I have ever read!!!

WOW! And I thought Pamela Clare was a wonderful writer of historical romance..! This was an amazingly sexy, intelligent and truly entertaining novel! Someone should seriously make it into a movie! Kara McMillan is a daring investigative reporter, who is trying hard to balance the demands of her successful career with those of being a single mom. Having been dragged to a swanky lounge by her female co-worker, in the hopes of attracting some male attention, Kara discovers that tipsiness, combined with her investigative skills, can produce an interesting conversation with a good-looking man... who, just so happens, is a state senator. Reece Sheridan is so amused by the wildcat reporter, he can't help but pursue her. Unfortunately anything resembling a relationship is hard to fit on their plates, which are already overflowing by their high profile careers. To top it all off, a huge political scandal is brewing, which threatens not only any possibilities of romance, but also their very lives and careers. I immensely enjoyed 'watching' Kara slowly make room in her heart for something self-serving, that for once wasn't about responsibilities. Equally intriguing was Reece's effort to balance that male-protectiveness with respect for her feminist sensibilities. This truly was a wonderful tale of pulse-raising romantic suspense, easily one of the best I¿ve ever read! I¿m definitely keeping this one on my bookshelf and can¿t wait to read more works by Pamela Clare.

    Another WINNER!!!!!

What a journey! Ms. Clare (already a proven historical author) has made the jump into the world of romantic suspense with the preverbal ¿BANG¿!!!! She has taken us on a ride with her into the world of investigative reporting and all the danger and suspense it involves, along the way she has managed to give us one of the most sensual romances I¿ve had the pleasure to read. From their first meeting you KNOW that Reese and Kara are meant for each other. Their interaction is full of wit, humor and romance. Pamela weaves a world you can envision just like your sitting in the theater watching it on screen. To me this is one of the highest complements, for an author to be able to paint a picture with words that you can ¿SEE¿!! I have nothing but the highest praises for his work and can only hope to have some of the other charters to look forward to in books to come.

    Extreme Exposure get the scope

Pamela Clare, the brightest star in romance has outdone herself with her new contemprary book Extreme Exposure. Kara, an investigative reporter is on the case of a huge company trashing the environment with toxic waste dump. Her investigation will lead to politicans and other people who wants to stop her are out to get her at any cost, even death. Senator Reece Sheridan is single, sexy, and extremely handsome. He meets Kara on the first chapter, and has a very naughty conversation with her. This leads to instant attraction and chemistry. Unlike other senators Reece is dedicated to his work and improving the government. There are no sex scandals with any interns for this senator, the only sex and scandals he has is with Kara. Ms. Pamela Clare has certainly used her on career as an investigator reporter to good use. The authenticity of how Kara went about her job is real. But this is only half of the story. The action half. The romance part of the story is to die for. As I said from the beginning of the book starting with the hot, sweaty conversation that Reece has with Kara to the last page, it is filled with sexual tension. Reece is such a powerful, loving, sexual hero. Not only is he a good lover he is also an excellent father to Kara's little son. This is the type of man any woman would want. There is a very humorous scene involving Kara's son and a certain toy. Numerous flaming hot scenes involving Kara and Reece showing their love and the lust. Just be prepared to have plenty of towels to wipe off the sweat and something cool handy. This book is that good. Nowadays we have too many romance books that aren't even romance anymore. Extreme Exposure is the kind of old fashion straight romance that I feel we have been missing for a long time. Thank you Ms. Pamela Clare for writing romance the way it should be written.
