For three decades, Richie Tankersley Cusick (b. 1952) has been one of the most prominent authors of horror fiction for young adults. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana—home to some of the country’s most ancient ghosts—Cusick spent her early years in a small bayou town called Barataria. Inspired by the eerie Louisiana swampland, she began writing at a young age. After college, Cusick took a job at Hallmark and moved to a haunted house in Kansas City, where she began work on her first novel, Evil on the Bayou, whose success allowed her to leave her job and begin writing fulltime. Since then, Cusick has written more than two dozen novels. She and her three dogs live in Missouri, where Cusick writes on an antique roll-top desk that was once owned by a funeral director. The desk is, of course, haunted.
Stunned by the loss of her sister, Ryan determines to keep the secret they shared right before Marissa died. But Ryan soon finds herself caught in a web of growing terror as a series of "coincidences" make Ryan doubt her own sanity. Can she discover the truth before she shares her sister's fate? Original.

I read this book in like an hour; i just couldnt put it down. it was the best. Cusick makes the characters so real, that I actually started having a crush on Jinx ( a fictional character!) it was really really good.

This was a great read, it was a short read which I enjoyed because it did not have all that filler junk. I read alot and can honestly say that I could not put this book down until I found out who, what and why, which I believe will be a surprise to everyone. Have not read this author before but will be looking for more books. That is one of the things I love most about my nook the great new authors I've found from free friday and $5 and under books.

I read this book like 4 years ago, and I just rememebered the title now, but I forgot what it was about. So I looked it up and I remember loving this book! I'm about to go out and buy it. It was amazing. Don't feel bad, I had a crush on Jinx too LoL!

This book is worth reading. Although, I didn't fall in love with Jinx, like the other reviewer. I did like Winchester Stone's character. There is something about Cusick's writing that doesn't allow a reader to stop reading. Her plots grab you from the beginning and don't let go. She gets you to feel what the character is going through and I think that is a rare gift for an author.

Ryan McCauley had been in waves of guilt ever since her older sister, Marissa, died in an unexpected icy death. That's because Marissa has shared a deadly secret to her. A secret she never fully understand. A secret that drive her nearly mad. A secret that would kill her. A guy named Charles Eastman came to Ryan's house unexpectedly and her mom, grieving over Marissa's death, invited Charles in to stay with them. Ryan was waried at the handsome stranger. She was suspicious of the dark, loner Winchester Stone, who always there when something bad happened. Can she trust anyone? Even her friends: Phoebe and Jinx; or her near stepfather Steve? Can she turn to someone with her life... and her secrets?
