Meet the Author

#1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author J. Lynn lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia. When she's not hard at work writing, she spends her time reading, working out, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russell terrier, Loki.

Molly McAdams grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband and furry, four-legged daughter. Her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach . . . which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby—or hiding in her writing cave, trying to get her characters’ stories out.

Sophie Jordan grew up on a pecan farm in the Texas hill country, where she wove fantasies of dragons, warriors, and princesses. A former high school English teacher, she's also the New York Times bestselling author of Avon historical romances and the Firelight series. She now lives in Houston with her family. When she's not writing, she spends her time overloading on caffeine (lattes and Diet cherry Coke preferred), talking plotlines with anyone who will listen (including her kids), and cramming her DVR with true-crime and reality-TV shows..

Andrew Shaffer is the author of Great Philosophers Who Failed at Love and, under the pen name Fanny Merkin, Fifty Shames of Earl Grey. His writing has appeared in such diverse publications as Mental Floss and Maxim. An Iowa native, Shaffer lives in Lexington, Kentucky, a magical land of horses and bourbon.

Lisa Desrochers is the author of A Little Too Far, A Little Too Much, and the young adult Personal Demons trilogy. She lives in Northern California with her husband, two very busy daughters, and Shini the tarantula.

This was an interesting mix of authors and NA stories, and I'll admit, I went into this thinking I knew what to expect, but I was wrong. Not all of the stories are about "sealing the deal" although there is plenty of steam.

Many made me laugh out loud, and a couple made me tear up. And there were a couple that didn't appeal to me, BUT part of what makes an anthology fun is variety. Having the chance to read familiar authors while exposing you to others you might not have read before is always a good thing. For example, one story in particular kicked me in the feels something fierce and now I'm eager to read this author's other works. I'm looking at you Lyla Payne. ;)

The stories I LOVED were the ones that weren't predictable with guys who didn't fit the stereotypical mold. (I married one so I know they exist.) These were also the stories I hated to see end. I wanted MORE Hunter, Blake, Kai, Noel, Ollie and Ben, just to name a few.

Fans of NA will enjoy this and even if you're still on the fence or unsure if NA is your thing, this anthology is a good place to start.

This is a review for Daylight, one of the stories in the anthology, so far. Will add more as I read them.

Daylight by Julie Cross, is the first story I have read from the Fifty First Times anthology and while I liked that it worked as a short, it could have easily been stretched out into a full length novel. It packed quite a punch emotionally.

We meet a newlywed couple on their wedding night with flashbacks of how they met, and other important moments in their relationship. How Julie was able to provide that much background and development on characters in about 50 pages, I don't know but it worked. I felt a connection to both of them and wanted more.

The intimacy between the two of them is typical of a first time on a honeymoon night. Unsure of yourself and what is going to happen, yet total trust and love. It was all done very nicely. If the other stories in the series are written this well, I can't wait to read the other stories in this anthology!

Fifty First Times: A New Adult Anthology is a phenomenal collect

Fifty First Times: A New Adult Anthology is a phenomenal collection of short stories written by an amazing line up of brilliant authors. These aren't your typical first encounters by unique and personal relationships of love and building trust.

With all anthologies, the stories vary but I have to admit I really liked if not adored ever single story and couple. Which was a pleasant surprise, normally there is at least 1 story that doesn't click, but with Fifty First Times, this wasn't the case.

Fifty First Times has an outstanding line up of fabulous authors, highly enjoyable and entertaining stories and some wonderfully endearing romantic trysts.

I received this ARC copy of Fifty First Times: A New Adult Anthology in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication February 25, 2014.

When I first saw all of the amazing authors featured in this ant

When I first saw all of the amazing authors featured in this anthology, I knew I had to have it! It had some of my very favorites in here, as well as some I've been wanting to try! Being a NA lover, I knew I would enjoy these novellas and for the most part I did! There were a few that weren't my kind of stories, but I still appreciated that this book included some diversity in it as well. A few others just fell short for me, as novellas are tricky to write. There wasn't enough development and a few were kind of ridiculous plot-wise. But then there were the ones I want to hold tight and never let go of! I wish those ones could have been made into feature length novels, because I desperately wanted more!

One such book was Melissa Landers' Under the Seryn Moon. I absolutely adored that this was not a contemporary and instead told of an arranged marriage between two tribes. Lyra has been forced to marry Kai, prince of the Seryn tribe, after her father's lost the war. She is a peace offering and nothing more. Kai surprises Lyra with his thoughtfulness and his tenderness. He wants to make her feel comfortable in a place foreign to her and where it is his right to take her as he pleases, he does not. He is kind and asks for her permission and I just really loved the undertone of this one. There are no declarations of love, instead there is the promise of a love to come and I really liked that.

Another favorite was J.Lynn's Believe in Me. I LOVE Ollie! He was such a great side character in Wait For You so naturally I was psyched for him to get a novella! I also love Brit, Avery's friend, so seeing them together was a pleasant surprise. I really like that Ollie and Brit were friends first and then turned into something more. Ollie and Brit have always teased each other, but things are different now, as Ollie realizes he really does care for her. He is a different guy with her and wants to be good enough for her and I loved seeing that sweet side to him.

Crash by Sophie Jordan was another that made an impact on me. We first met Hunter in Foreplay, so it was nice to see his story. After not getting the girl, his friends insist on taking him to a strip club, which is funny in its own right because Hunter is more of a straight and narrow guy. He is focused on school and went from one serious relationship to having something with Pepper. His friends think he needs to loosen up and live a little, but that's just not Hunter's style. Too bad one night at The Kitty Cave ends up being a far better one than he ever imagined. Brooke is doing whatever it takes to get by and pay her tuition. Following in the footsteps of her mom and sister, she knows stripping will bring in more cash flow than her job at a burger joint. The only problem? This isn't Brooke. She's not cut out for the world of groping, horny men. Seeing Hunter in the crowd, she is immediately drawn to him. He doesn't act a fool like the other men, but instead just watches her with this intensity that does not go unnoticed. She thinks he's too good for a trailer park girl like her and even though he is persistent about getting her number, she doesn't see the point because she knows he won't call.

    Other books of note:

Field Emotions by Melissa West and Strike Out by Myra McEntire both have athletes as their MC's (Yum!) Field Emotions is the story of best friends becoming something more and finding the courage to admit their feelings to one another and Strike Out tells of a ball player desperate to get a girl that works in the management office. She stays away from ball players and has earned a rep as being the girl no one could get. Ben doesn't see her as a challenge, but instead genuinely wants to get to know her and spend time with her.

I also loved Alessandra Thomas's With The Lights On. Aless isn't afraid to tackle very real, difficult issues that women face and I love that about her stories. Anna suffers from panic attacks and extreme self-consciousness. After being chewed up and spat out for her curvier figure, her life really took a took turn for the worse. Now, she is seeing a great guy named Tal, but hasn't confessed the reason behind her scar or the reason behind her panic attacks. I freaking LOVE Tal. He is a great guy and when Anna does finally come clean, he doesn't judge her or make her feel any less than she should. He accepts her and loves her no matter what. It is a very uplifting, hopeful story and I really liked that.

Julie Cross's Daylight was such a different story and this is one I wish we could have seen more of. Jack is a broken man needing absolution and Audrey is a preacher's daughter who is waiting for marriage before having sex. Audrey is the light that Jack desperately needs and their wedding night is bittersweet, as Jack has to go away, and doesn't know if he will even return. The storyline felt unresolved even though it does come full circle at the end. I liked that it was different in nature and instead of being a steamy story, it had softer, sensual feel to it.

Finally, Love in an Elevator by Carrie Ryan was such a fun story. I think it's every single girl's fantasy to get stuck in an elevator with an extremely hot guy! It wasn't very realistic, but that's ok because I loved how steamy it was!

Overall, this is one I couldn't read all in one sitting. My brain needed time between the novellas to adjust to a different storyline, setting, and characters before being able to move on. Some stories are very similar to one another in the 'first' department, but every author has a different style and I felt most of them stuck out enough for me to truly enjoy them.

I won a contest and had been wanting this book for a while, so I asked to have this one as part of my prize.
    I'm so glad I did.
I was very intrigued by a book full of short stories about fifty first times. Of course I thought it would be all about sex, but it's not. It is about romance, so if you're not looking for that kind of anthology, I would pass on this one. I was also excited to see so many names of authors I knew I loved: Sophie Jordan, Julie Cross, J. Lynn, Melissa West, Melissa Landers. I was excited to see what each of them would bring to the table. I was also excited to read from authors I hadn't yet broken into: Molly McAdams, Cole Gibsen, Lyla Payne and more! having now read their stories, I am sure I would read other books by them.

There were a lot of stories so I won't review each one. What I will tell you is that you will get all types of romance in this book from innocent to sexy scenes. You'll also get relationships of all sorts. It was great to get these different perspectives, some of which I had never had the chance to read before.

There were stories with depth and stories that were more light. This book pretty much has it all. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you might even bite on your lip a few times. The variety means there will be something for everyone. And, while I didn't love each and every one of them, I did enjoy what each author was able to bring to the page.

Fans of NA books will definitely enjoy this compilation of stories. You might even find a new author to like! And if you haven't read NA before, this just might push you over into wanting to read more!

A great collection of stories from some fabulous authors. Each one brings their unique writing style to the topic of "Firsts". I would definitely recommend the anthology, especially if you are new to the authors and want a sample of their writing tastes before diving in to their other novels.

    Disappointing

I bought this because I like some of the authors but this collection of stories seems quickly thrown together. The editing is poor, riddled with typos and grammatical errors. This anthology does a poor job of reprenting these writers. Do not buy -- waste of money.

a little disturbing. there was a premise behind it, but sometimes that got lost in the hard sex. I think the sex was to shock, but it took away from the story
