About the Author

John E. Miller is the author of eight books and editor or co-editor of five others, including "First We Imagine." Among his books are three on Laura Ingalls Wilder, including the standard biography, "Becoming Laura Ingalls Wilder: The Women Behind the Legend." He is also the author of a political biography of Wisconsin governor Philip F. La Follette and of a historical-journalistic-travelogue covering fifteen towns in South Dakota called "Looking for History on Highway Fourteen." His most recent volume is "Small-Town Dreams: Stories of Midwestern Boys Who Shaped America." Before becoming a full-time writer, he taught American history for three decades at the University of Tulsa and South Dakota State University.
