My girlfriend and I are planning on getting a German Shepherd puppy, so we got this book in order to prepare us for that endeavor. The book is very high quality published with easy to read material that is very logically laid out. The book is fully of high quality photographs of the dogs, etc. However, while those pictures are very cute, they carry little to none informative value.
The author gives a very detailed and interesting history of the breed, and after that she goes on to tell what you should do to prepare to acquire the puppy and then how to own/feed/train etc. your dog. However, the author seems to give more of her personal opinions as opposed to scientific facts as to the training of animals. The section on dog food tells you what to look out for and what kind of food NOT to get, however it tells you VERY LITTLE as to what kind of commercial dog food is good.
Overall this is a good book and a valuable read, however I would suggest getting a "second opinion" on some of the training methods from another source.
