I was afraid I wouldn't like this book - boy, was I wrong!

When the author, who is a friend of mine (disclaimer), asked me to help her format her cover for the print version, I didn't expect to read this book. But each time I saw the description, I grew more intrigued, and finally had to check it out, even though I typically don't read YA. So I downloaded the sample, and was even more worried I wouldn't like it, because it's written in first person, present tense. I realize FP/PT is very common in YA, but I normally can't stand it. Yet, by the second time I hit page-down, the book had pulled me in so strongly I no longer noticed.

Fifteen-year-old Alexia is an outcast, a weird girl who sees auras that clue her in to the amount of good and evil in a person, and who's been bounced from foster home to foster home since she was young. Her new foster parents are too good to be true, and the gorgeous new boy who rescues her from bullies on their first day at her new school is also too good to be true. But despite Alexia's efforts to push him away, Gabriel sticks around, and the two become fast friends with a growing, underlying attraction they can't deny.

Eventually, it comes out that Gabriel is a Seraphim, a guardian angel whose purpose is help Alexia deal with and accept her incredible gift and destiny. With Gabriel's help and encouragement, Alexia puts the past and her fears behind her, and slowly begins to accept her gifts, friendship from others, and most of all, who she is. Their love story is sweet and poignant, with touches of humor and tearjerker moments. As others have mentioned, the ending is heart-wrenching, yet it's surprisingly uplifting at the same time.

If you enjoy YA with a positive, paranormal element, The Guardian is a must-read. Even if you don't normally read this type of story, I encourage you to check it out - you won't be disappointed.

This book is pretty well written, although the other could have added more dialog.

"THE HALO CHRONICLES: THE GUARDIAN (REVIEW)

"THE HALO CHRONICLES: THE GUARDIAN" BY CAREY CORP

This book was simply amazing. I am now seeking the rest of the series that I know this book must belong to. Carey Corp is a fantastic writer with the ability to write a story without worrying about taking chances with her characters. (By the way I couldn't help but picture Lucas Till as Gabriel, keep that in mind for a movie deal!) So many authors are afraid if they allow characters that their readers truly love to end up having an outcome that is not such a happy ending that they will lose the interest of their followers. I for one adore writers that are not afraid to put the lives of their characters on the line for the greater good of a story and I feel that Carey Corp is definitely one of these writers.

I would recommend these books for not only teens but adults as well, this story captured me and held me until the very end and I can honestly say Carey Corp has become a favorite of mine from this moment on.

Carey if you read this review know that I would LOVE to read the rest of your series, I am dying to know what happens to Alexia, Derry, and Jonah next!

    Pretty good!

I don't actively search self-published works. I'm trying to get over that prejudice and I actually have a couple self-published books in the queue. If it lands my lap, I'll read it. Still, I heard some buzz about this book and actually bought it for my Nook for $2.99. I heard it was really, really good so I thought, "Yes, I'll give this one a try!"

So here's what happened: when I started the book I was rolling my eyes a bit. The sanguine language of yet another angsty, paranormal YA novel. But the next day when I continued I felt like it got better. A lot better. By halfway through I was planning on giving it four stars! Then last night I finished the novel and I shut off my Nook, lay down in bed, and I couldn't figure out what to rate the book. It went from "meh" to "great" and then it ended and I realized... nothing had happened!

High schooler Alexia can see other people's halos. If they're evil their halos are black and she gets stomach cramps looking at them, but if they're yellow or gold the person is a good person and Alex can stomach being around them. Alexia is a foster child and she's just trying to get through to eighteen, though I don't know why because she'll still see halos after her birthday. Then suddenly a guardian angel is thrust into her life. They fall in love. Some side-plot stuff happens and we find out her guardian angel is only there to save her life.

Apparently "The Gift of the Saints" has been bestowed about Alex, but by the time the book ends the reader doesn't really know what that means. Supposedly we'll find out in the second novel so maybe that book will have more of a point. If I remember to look for it, I'll probably buy it to find out what happens. And I should say, despite the lack of interesting plot, the book was very well written and the characters were enjoyable. Three stars!

PS: Why is Justin Bieber on the cover of this book with badly photoshopped hair?

A cross between CITY OF ANGELS and PERFECT CHEMISTRY.

Love, love, love this book! The writing is phenomenal, the pacing is perfect and the love story kept me turning the pages well into the night. You'll be thinking about these characters long after you read the last page.
