Overview

Determined to overcome a difficult past, Erica Hathaway learns early on how to make it on her own. Days after her college graduation she finds herself face to face with a panel of investors who will make or break her fledgling startup. The only thing she didn't prepare for was going weak in the knees over an arrogant and gorgeous investor who's seemingly determined to derail her presentation.

Billionaire and rumored hacker Blake Landon has already made his fortune in software, and he's used to getting what he wants with very little resistance. Captivated by Erica's drive and unassuming beauty, he's wanted nothing more since she stepped into his boardroom. Determined to win her over, he breaks down her defenses and fights for her trust, even if that means sacrificing a level of control he's grown accustomed to.

But when Blake uncovers a dark secret from Erica's past, he threatens not just her trust, but the life she's fought so hard to create.

4.5 Stars Hardwired by Meredith Wild is a love a story and so much more. The book is told in first person by Erica Hathaway; she is a fresh graduate from Harvard University, entrepreneur of her own Internet start-up fashion site–the company that she has poured her life into imagining and creating out of nothing. The company is her passion. She is alone in the world except for her mom’s best friend Maria and her two business partners, Allie and Sid. Enter Blake Landon; he literally bumps into Erica, and the sensual sparks fly. Sexy and devilishly handsome, he is every woman’s fantasy man. The bump is short and sweet, but it leaves Erica with fantasy material, as the girl has no time for a social life. Psst, he is a billionaire control freak but a likeable billionaire control freak. He is going to have problems with ‘all career’ Erica and that is just how it is going to be. Her company is her single-minded focus, and she is a driven individual; she doesn’t have time for a man. So begins the journey of Erica and Blake meeting. What I like about this book is that the plot was multifaceted. First you had the story line of Erica and her partners trying to get capital to grow their business. Erica and her partners Sid and Allie are having growing pains. They are all newly graduated from Harvard and expected to make their lives in the big bad non-academic world of real life. Each of the partners aren’t just cardboard cut out place holders in for the main romance plot. They are three-dimensional characters who have their own lives. Sid isn’t as fleshed out as Allie, but I expect that to happen as the series progresses. Then, of course, you have the love story between Blake and Erica. No, this isn’t ‘I fall at your feet and worship you because you are a billionaire time’ for Erica. This is ‘I fight tooth and nail to ignore the pull for the billionaire and stand up for myself time’ for Erica. Hey, the girl is a scotch drinker, and I expected nothing less. If she would have drank one of those fruity drinks, then all bets were off. Now I just need to know her brand to know how committed I will be to Erica. Yes, I’m a Scotch snob. Sue Me. Then there was a very interesting plot twist in the book revolving around Erica’s past, and guess what? I am not going to spoil it for anyone. But boy, it is a big blow-up-the-book type twist. This was an enjoyable book with characters I can’t wait to read more about, as there is a sequel coming entitled Hardpressed.

2 Stars. Book + Reviews = Disappointed! I purchased this book because B&N showed it in the "Customers Who Bought This Also Bought" section. I enjoyed Shayla Black''s novels and the Fifty Shades Trilogy (lacked writing skills, but it was entertaining) and books similar to this genre, so the high ratings and positive feedback about this novel enticed me. I was disappointed from beginning to end. It wasn't anything refreshing, in fact, it felt like a copycat version of Fifty Shades. Rich guy with issues, young girl with issues - it's been done many times before. Also, the characters and their relationship felt rushed. Erica seemed bipolar - one minute she lusts for Blake, then she despises him...it's a smorgasbord of shallow emotions that left me confused. If you really want to read this, I suggest purchasing the Nook version so you don't waste your money on the paperback. Happy reading! =)

This was a watered down version of Fifty Shades. I was disappointed by the writing. The story copied elements from Fifty but to me could not capture the feeling of passion. Okay read.

Good book, but too short, only 200 pgs. Recommend for those looking for an easy fun read.

Really enjoyed this one. The characters and the story were well developed and the writing was very good. The background story was quite original, setting it apart from the stereorypical billionaire-meets-poor-girl type of romance. The heroine was smart and independent, which was a welcome departure from the lacklustered heroines of most romance books. Add to that the suspense surrounding the primary and secondary characters, and you get an intriguing plot intertwined with a scorching romance that keeps you turning pages. I already bought the sequel book and look forward to reading it.

I am so sad that I bought this book. Good marketing on this book, I will give them that. But painful to read. Please don't spend your money on this, you will wish you didn't.

This is not fifty shades of grey. Yes blake is a controling rich guy who likes bdsm but thats were the similarities end. Although it wasnt what i expected i fell in love with the charaters. It was a good book the only problem i had was that the walls they built keeping others out came down way to fast.

I couldn't put this book down! I can't wait for Hardpressed to come out!!

The character relationship is strained and left me wondering if sexual attraction is enough to base a relationship on. I love how the characters walls started to come down. I would have liked more character building to appreciate the dynamics. Main character seems beyond naive in her actions. Dispite all that I am beyond anxious to see where the author chooses to take these two.

Very Good Contemporary Romance Boston Erica Hathaway learned early on how to make it on her own and is determined to overcome her difficult past. Now just days after her college graduation she is face-to-face with a panel of investors that will either make or break her fledgling start-up business. She thought she was prepared until she finds herself going weak in the knees for an investor that is both arrogant and gorgeous and who seems determined to derail her presentation. Blake Landon is a billionaire that is also rumored to be a hacker. He has made his fortune in software and is used to getting whatever he wants. Since Erica first stepped into his boardroom he has wanted to possess her and is captivated by her drive and unassuming beauty. Blake is determined to win Erica over by fighting for her trust and breaking down her defenses and if he needs to sacrifice a level of control that he has grown accustomed to he will. Blake ends up uncovering a dark secret from Erica’s past and now not only is her trust threatened but also the life she has fought hard to create. This is the start of a series that proves to be very interesting and hard to put down. Seeing how the characters get past their hang ups to have a relationship together is very satisfying and will keep the reader turning the pages just to see what will happen next. The plot while similar to other books still manages to be different and makes for a story that will have readers wanting to read the next book to see just what will happen next. It does end in a cliffhanger but it still works well with the overall story line. This is one book that is worth checking out.

I thought this was a great book! Kept my attention and I slowly fell in love with Erica and Blake!!

I am new to the reading hobby and fell in love with the 50 Shades Of Grey trilogy. Desperate to continue my new obsession for sexy romance series I attempted this book. I have to say this book, though similar to the intense passion that two people can feel for each other, is still very different from 50 Shades. I do plan to continue reading the series, though I did find some areas somewhat a bore (probably due to it being more realistic). The sex scenes are not as descriptive and intense as 50 Shades, but do keep my attention. Overall a very good book. I just wish I had read this series before I read 50 Shades. I feel that if I had I would have better appreciated it for what it is and not had felt the need to compare the two.

This series is a must. I loved Blake and Erica. Its like a mix of 50 shades, the crossfire series and this man series. Well worth my money just wish each book was longer!!!! One of my new favorite authors.

Restraining Order Needed There is being swept away by an alpha hero, but retaining identity and strength, to build a partnership and respect. Then, there's controlling someone's home and financial opportunities, buying expensive bedsheets for a non-lover, cyber-stalking painful memories and trying to isolate her from friends. The latter is the beginning of an abusive relationship. (Please, anyone in such a situation, there are resources for you—you deserve safety) There are books whose heroes must redeem themselves by groveling. There are not enough words in Shakespeare's corpus to compose a long enough plea. Some romances have awesome older women who mentor younger women and own their own awesomeness.  Marie misguides her niece, when she comes for advice, assuring her that young love should be cloying and overwhelming. NO, JUST NO. 1- Older people can have lovely romances that need not be less because they’re older. 2- If someone comes to you, confused by a relationship where a one night stand tricks you into becoming a neighbor for better access, the best advice is not along the lines of oh that’s just how love is. One in four women in America and probably similar or higher numbers around the world will experience intimate partner abuse. People need to support them early, not tell them, “that’s love” In some movies, you sit on the edge of your chair, imagining the way things will be saved in the nick of time. Reading some romances, you pine for the HEA. I stopped two thirds of the way through this book, because I was fantasizing about Erica getting a restraining order and building company without his constantly interfering to improve everything she does, not because he respects her accomplishments and wants her to succeed on her own merits, but because he wants her time and focus. UGH NO RESTRAINING ORDER DAMMIT

Same theme as the Fifty Shades and Crossfire series (dominating rich guy, troubled past...yada yada yada). Overall not a bad story, good enough I plan to continue on to the next book. Lacks the depth you get from Fifty Shades and I found myself really not feeling the emotional connection between the characthers.
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
This is definitely not a FSOG or a Crossfire comparison. The story was all over the placd and so was Eric. Submissive, meek then dominant full of angst... Okay for a 'supposingly' strong minded female sure had issues. Blake was a strong Alpha male who surprisingly confessed love early on. Erica's BFF was flakey, Allie and so not a BF. The sex scenes were so flowery and verbous in some scenes.. I bought the series so I will finish reasding it. This won't be a re-read for me. LOVETOREAD
