Monica McCarty is the bestselling author of The Chief, the first book in the Highland Guard series, the Highlander trilogy (Highlander Untamed, Highlander Unmasked, and Highlander Unchained), and the Campbell trilogy (Highland Warrior, Highland Outlaw, and Highland Scoundrel). Her interest in the Scottish clan system began in the most unlikely of places: a comparative legal history course at Stanford Law School. After a short but enjoyable stint as an attorney, she realized that her career as a lawyer set against her husband’s transitory life as a professional baseball player was not exactly a match made in heaven.     Monica McCarty has never failed me. It was impossible to put down the book. It was beautifully well written, and if you like pirates, adventure, epic battles at sea, and forbidden love, then YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

    Erik MacSorley-(OH LA LA) I couldn't get enough of him, his humor, his pirate attitude, his warrior skills, it screams YUMMY!!!

    Elyne de Burgh-She knows how to get past all of those groupies to get to her man.

    You gotta read this book, it's so worth the time. Take my word for it.

    Could not put it Down!

    Great book! I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I loved the hero in this book. So carefree and loveable. I love all her books and wait for each on to be completed so I can rush to a book store to read them. I absolutely love historical romance. I wish all the romance authors would stop writting all that demon and shape shifter stuff. Stick with the real deal. Real hero's, not half demons who are immortal by the way.
    Can't wait for The Ranger!

    I loved it!!!!!

    This is a classic. All of her Highlander romance novels are number one. I love the strong men and the fearless women. She has wonderful characters that you can't get enough of. Reading her books makes you want to journey back in time and find some of these hunks. I love all of her books. It is definitely a must read.

    Love this series

    Great suspense, not the run of the mill highlander romance. Love the use of real historical figures and battles. After reading The Chief, I couldn't wait for this book and now I will anxiously wait for the next.

    Another Hit!

    So, it was slow starter but, WOW, loved how it progressed and ended. All in all it’s a winner, loved it, maybe not quite as much as The Chief, but still a great read. I’ll read it again. On to The Ranger! Monica McCarty, what a personality, Dedication page of The Hawk…To Dave, Eighteen years? It feels like five minutes…(Your turn to say it: “…under water”) P. S. We need to get some new material. Great author!

    The greatness continues!

    Not disappointed at all by the 2nd book, the characters are SO likable and so well written. The stories are compelling with lots of action and twists and the love scenes are HOT and not cheesy!! FAN FOR LIFE!!

    Couldn't put it down!!

    After reading The Chief, I was excited to get my hands on this book. Monica McCarty did it again!! Another wonderful book, I can't wait until I can get the third book in this series. It was a great read!!!

    GREAT read!!!!

    I am really enjoying this series of the Highland Guard. The story was really good, the characters very interesting. I am glad that there are not a lot of similarities to each book besides the Guard story line. I read this book within 2 days just because there was a holiday in the mist of my reading. If you want a good juicy romance story with a sexy highlander this books for you.

    I love the way that this author writes her stories. I don't find myself rolling my eyes at the things said, and I can't put the book down. I can't wait to the read the next book in this series.

    Great Second Book!

    McCarty has created a series that is nowhere near stagnant and that is full of action. The plot in the second book moves quickly and is just as inventive as it was in the first book of this series. It is great to read to series that doesn't simply rely on repeating the same devices to drive its plot. So far, McCarty has succeeded in creating a book that doesn't use the first as a crutch to fall back on when she's stumped by where the plot should go and how it should get there.

    Really good romance novel!!!

    Wasn't sure I wanted to read this, the first 70 pages were really slow and hard to get into the story, stopped and went to read several other novels then gave it another try. Wow! Was I ever glad I came back to finish, could not put it down until finished. Highly recommend, not as great as The Chief!!! But is still a very good historical romance!!!!

    Read this you won't regret it!!

    This was great. Goes se well with the Cheif. It keeps you smiling. McCarty was so descriptive you feel like you are right there as part of the story. Example the was she describes the smile of hawk will make your own stomach flip, and put a smile on your face...Read it its well worth your money and time!

    lovely and very entertaining
