It is about a sixteen year old boy named Andre, who plays basketball with his friends on Saturdays. Andre meets a girl named Gwen and they went on a date. then thet stated going out. This book reminds me of me and my friend playing basketball. I really recommend this book that if you are into sports, romance, and violence.

Very Good Book. Easy Read.

I ended up having this book reccomended to my by english teacher. at first i really didnt want to read another book about another black kid in the inner-city who is a stand out basketball player. this book is so much more well rounded than what i had in mind. the main character, Andre, is a basketball player and is also a writter. this book talks alot about the still prominate issue of racism in our community and world and the way that people react to the situation. this was a great book and i enjoyed reading it.

The Hoopster is the title of my book and the main characters of my book are Andre, and Shawn. Andre and Shawn have this girl that they like and they want to go on a date with her. This book reminds me of basketball. I thought this book was a cool book and I liked it.

The Hoopster is a very interesting page turner.It's great to know about racism and how people are trreated in the real world I enjoyed this book.

The Hoopster

The Hoopster is a book that is very eye catching. With me being someone who doesn't like to read, this book has really made me continue reading, and now I have almost read all the other books by this author. When I began reading this book, it drew me in with action starting throughout the first few pages. This book is about a boy named Andre Anderson who loves to play basketball. Andre works at a publishing office bundling papers. After getting a promotion to be a writer, Andre received tickets to a show. While talking to a Latino girl named Gwen, he decided to take her to the show. When Andre was assigned his first assignment he really didn't know what to write. While he was thinking he came up with one thing, racism. Little to be known that writing one of the best racism articles would change his life forever. I would directly recommend this book and any other book by Alan Lawrence Sitomer. With most of his books dealing with youth, teens, and everyday life, this is a perfect book for teens.

Best Book to Learn About Racism

Andre portrays a minority of everybody who is lower in the rank in life. The story is the best I've ever read about racism and trying to show how people really feel about it. It also shows how people react to people that are racist. The settings and characters in the book each have an important, symbolic role. The Last couple chapters just grab you and you just don't want to put it down. The stuff that happens to Andre is so realistic and in life. I love this book because of the imagery and the realism.

This book is such an eye opener

I have to admit, when I first opened the Hoopster I made the mistake of judging it by it's cover. I thought that it would be nothing different from all the other basketball books. Little did I know that this book would leave a lasting impression on me. This book uses a fictional story to bring to light 'real life' issues facing the inner cities. I recommend this book with all my heart, seriously. Alan Sitomer is a great writer, I'm just waiting on the sequel! -Joel Jackson

Wonderful book for young adults

A great story about a kid who figures out how to motivate and get up when he's been beaten down. I loved the story, its vivid style, but most of all how well the story can inspire young adults to find courage and inspiration.

Great Read.. Very inspirational

I am not much of a reader but a friend of mine recommended that I read it during a long weekend. From the second I picked it up I could not but it down. I immediately became connected with each of the characters and many of them reminded me of friends from home. I could not wait to see what was going to happen next. After completing this The Hoopster I quickly called up several of my close friends and told them how much I appreciated them. The Hoopster is a great read and I highly recommend it to all readers especially the unmotivated ones like me.

You Ain't Gonna Believe This Book!

Read The Hoopster; then guess the ethnicity of the author. Ordinarily, like you, I would say: Who cares? A good book is a good book. Right? Yah, but there is a logic out there that says that only one who has lived in the skin of that ethnic character can write with the true color, the true flavor of a particular culture. Well, maybe it is time we got beyond all that. So, read for yourself how Andre Anderson, a black teen-ager's world works. Yah, as the title indicates, the story is about basketball, but is is also about a dream, a dream that any, and many, a teen has. The question how, as author Alan Sitomer poses, is an adolescent going to negotiate, going to live in world that is obviously racist -- unless it isn't all that clear that is isn't, all the time. Oh, and Andre writes (What else do you expect from a schoolteacher writer?), until he can't. Oops, that's getting too far into the book. You can read about Andre's dream, however; compare it with your own. And, I hear, there will be a sequel. See, dreams never die. Bill Younglove :-)

AWESOME!!! A Totally Great Book!

I never really like to read but jus' a few pages into this book, I couldn't put it down. So exxxcellent! It's fast, funny, filled with non-stop action and I couldn't believe the attack - WOW! Really, check out dis book -- it's hot.

Excellent Book!

This book was written by my English teacher, Mr. Alan Sitomer. This is a really great book that I enjoyed reading! I think I can relate to it. He was writing the book while I was in his class. Trust me, he is a great writer and the coolest person you can ever meet. I enjoyed being in his class as I am sure, all of his other students enjoyed his class as well. This is an excellent book, but don't take my word for it, BUY THE BOOK! This is one of the type of bok that you won't regret spending the 15 dollars.
