One of my absolute favorites, I read it 1987 and several times since. I loaned it to someone and never got it back. Would love to see it in a Nookbook format.

I read this book when it was first published. I remember reading it at lunch time and the security guard asking me what was making me smile and laugh so much. I really, really wish they would bring this out in Nook form also.

I can't say enough how much I loved this book. I laughed, I cried... the story of Abigail and Jesse will stay with me forever. Never have I read a romance novel in which there was so much sexual tension between the hero and the heroine! They were absolutely perfect for each other. I reread this book every year and the ending gets me every time. Not only is the plot wonderful, but the ending is really what I would call a "grand finale." By the time I've turned the last page I'm crying my eyes out! It's heartwarming and touching and will make you want to find a man exactly like Jesse!

I have fallen in love with Ms. Spencer's books. She has the ability to make me cry and laugh at the same time. She has restored my faith in romance and I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone and everyone!!!

What more can I say? Although I have read and enjoyed all of Lavyrle Spencer's books, this was by far my favorite by her or any other author.

I have just finished this book and wanted to review it to encourage other people to pick it up as soon as possible. I love her books, I'm recommending my favorites, and they all have their unique qualities. I would say that this one's is its humor. Most really good romances will bring you to tears, but not many can make you laugh out loud, which I did many times. Its a great read!

I think I originally read this book in about 3 hours!! I have since re-read it about 10 times, and I am still moved to tears!! Lavyrle Spencer is one of the BEST romance writers I have ever read...her characters are so real and HUMAN...not princesses and knights!

Humorous and poignant, a great historical romance about the love that blooms, even in mistaken identity. The characters are ones you can imagine as people you know. Spencer has a gift for creating small town America...all over the country and this book is no exception. If you like her, you WON'T be disappointed. Try it if you like Historical Romance novels.

A great read. Has everything you could want in a romance: a story with substance; compelling, goodlooking, sexy hero; feisty heroine, first rate sexual tension; lots of humorous momements, fast pace, holds your attention to the last page. I read the book years ago and just recently repurchased. I don't believe there is a romance story today that can beat it. A Keeper.

A lady by the name of Miss Abigail McKenzie, was given the title of spinster at age 20. She used her house to nurse a suspected train robber, Jesse Dufrayne, and the hero, David Melcher. Abbie, is the prissy lady who cares for only manners falls in love with David, but then realizes she is in love with Jesse.
