Overview

The first-ever story collection from the New York Times bestselling author, including two all-new works!

Kitty Norville, star of a New York Times bestselling series, is everybody’s favorite werewolf DJ and out-of-the-closet supernatural creature. Over the course of eight books she’s fought evil vampires, were-creatures, and some serious black magic. She’s done it all with a sharp wit and the help of a memorable cast of werewolf hunters, psychics, and if-notgood- then-neutral vampires by her side. Kitty’s Greatest Hits not only gives readers some of Kitty’s further adventures, it offers longtime fans a window into the origins of some of their favorite characters.

In “Conquistador de la Noche,” we learn the origin story of Denver’s Master vampire, Rick; with “Wild Ride,” we find out how Kitty’s friend T.J. became a werewolf; and in “Life is the Teacher,” we revisit Emma, the human-turned-unwilling-vampire who serves the aloof vampire Master of Washington, D.C.

This entertaining collection includes two brand-new works: “You’re On the Air,” about one of Kitty’s callers after he hangs up the phone; and the eagerly awaited “Long Time Waiting,” the novella that finally reveals just what happened to Cormac in prison, something every Kitty fan wants to know.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

This first-ever story collection from bestselling author Carrie Vaughn reveals new adventures by sharp-witted werewolf d.j. Kitty Norville and the fascinating back-stories of key characters, including Master vampire Rick, Emma, and Cormac. This 320-page trade paperback and NOOK Book original features two previously-unpublished works. A must-have for the many fans of this critically acclaimed series.

Library Journal
The latest addition to Vaughn's popular series, which features radio talk-show host and werewolf Kitty Norville, is a collection of short stories. The tales are wide-ranging in theme and tone, and not all are directly related to Kitty's universe, but each contains a paranormal influence (or interference) in the daily lives of mortals. High points include "The Temptation of Robin Green," in which an employee of a government lab falls in love with a selkie (a shape-shifting creature) under her care, and the poignant "Il Est Ne," in which Kitty teams up with a newly transformed werewolf to help solve a series of grisly murders. Vaughn's trademark sense of humor continues to distinguish this urban fantasy series, and the seamless integration of a variety of paranormal creatures (including vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters) in the everyday world is entertaining. Several of the stories were previously published, most in urban fantasy short story anthologies and fantasy magazines. VERDICT This collection should please fans of the series, especially those who want to know more about the side characters, but readers new to the Kittyverse will also find a fine introduction to this richly populated, fascinating paranormal world.—Nanette Donohue, Champaign P.L., IL

A super fourteen short story collection

This super fourteen short story collection consist of twelve that are clearly in Kitty's sphere though the most popular werewolf talk show personality only appears in five of them. Cormac stars in two (with Ben in "Looking After Family" and in the excellent tale of his haunting "Long Time Waiting"). Additionally T.J. stars in "Wild Ride" and Emma from "Kitty Takes Washington" heats the sheets in "Life Is The Teacher". Rick stars twice as Ricardo in Conquistador de la Noche" and with Kitty in "The Temptation of Robin Green". Finally there is also Jake the vampire who called the night radio host complaining about how his life literally sucks in "Kitty and the Silver Bullet"; this is what happened to him after his "You're on the Air" fifteen minutes of fame. Obviously for fans of the Kitty universe who will howl with delight even with two cleverly well written historical paranormal entries (A Princess of Spain and The Book of Daniel) that do not belong within Kitty's Greatest Hits.

    A Bit Deceptive

I am fan of The Kitty Norville Series, so of course I was going to get this anthology. Which to my dismay, was all of Carrie Vaughn's short stories. I wanted just the ones related to Kitty and her world, which though the other tales are vampire and shifter related, I was disappointed and the ones I enjoyed were based on Kitty and her world. The others were alright, and for that reason its a three star rating.

    Excellent book

Il Est Ne and Long Time Waiting (first and last stories) are my favorites. Il Est Ne is a prime example of what to do when picking up a stray werewolf. Long Time Waiting gives some Cormac detail that helps in reading Kitty Goes to War. It also makes Cormac a lot more interesting for future books now that he is out of prison.
