Overview

The beginning of a fantastic new action / adventure series from a twenty-year-old author who knows how to thrill - now in paperback!

Meet a 16-year-old superhuman: Agent Six of Hearts. He's the strongest, most effective agent in the Deck, a team of special agents fighting to uphold justice in a completely corrupt world. Six would be invincible if not for a deadly secret. He is the product of an illegal experiment by the Lab - a ruthless division of the corporation that controls his world. When the Deck begins to investigate the Lab, Six walks a tightrope between his two worlds, trying to keep his origin a secret.

Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
In a dystopian City controlled by a greedy corporation called ChaoSonic, a vigilante group known as the Deck that tries to fight the powers that be has a secret weapon: Agent Six of Hearts. He's their most effective operative, though he's only 16 years old. But Agent Six has a secret of his own—his seemingly superhuman feats are a result of being more than human. He is "a piece of biological weaponry," the result of a genetic experiment done by the Lab, a division of ChaoSonic. In his most dangerous mission to date, Agent Six is sent to break into the Lab's headquarters, to make sure clones of himself aren't created and sold as assassins to the highest bidder. But will he be too late? A 21-year-old Australian author wrote this breathless thriller, and to judge from the ending, sequels are planned. Agent Six is constantly forced to fight, using his amazing martial arts skills, though he tries not to kill anyone; to chase down the bad guys, on foot and by car; and to plunge from great heights over and over again, escaping death by a hair. Fans of James Bond-like tales will eat up all the suspenseful action, and there's not even a romance to slow it down. The novel is rather like a video game—there's not much depth to the characters, and it's all rather solemn, like the humorless main character—but it does move along at a terrific clip, and boys in particular will relish Agent Six's astonishing adventures. Gr 6 Up

In a time far into the future in a city isolated from the rest of the world, ChaoSonic controls all of the residents. But, there is one group that refuses to stay under its thumb-the Deck. It has a secret weapon in the fight against the enemy-Agent Six of Hearts. He is like no other human ever seen; in fact, he isn't totally human. Created through insidious and illegal experiments by the Lab, a division of ChaoSonic, he is a clone made up of human DNA, cheetah muscle, bloodhound nose, shark skin, elephant brain, and peregrine bones and eyes. He's the best agent ever to work for the Deck, helping to thwart the organization that created him 16 years earlier. He escaped the Lab when he was a baby and has stayed out of sight ever since. Only his boss, the King of Hearts, knows his secret. Then he is captured by ChaoSonic operatives. Yet, one of them is different from the rest. In Kyntak, Six sees another boy whose past is the same as his own. Can he trust him? Can the experimentation, torture, and cloning at the Lab ever be stopped? Fans of Anthony Horowitz's "Alex Rider" (Philomel) or James Patterson's "Maximum Ride" (Little, Brown) series will be hooked on this novel. An action-packed, suspense-filled story.-Traci Glass, Eugene Public Library, OR

    Excellent...(PressFinguresTogetherLikeMr.Burns)

Excellent book for a first time author! Has the same elements of a Matthew Reilly book but with a bit more character development. The action scenes are extremly well written. I loved reading this book so much, the action scenes are so fast paced I found myself rereading pages just to keep up! Loved the characters. Highly recommend! Sequel even better! Read it, read IT, READ IT!!!And thank you for your time.

A Smart Action-Packed Adventure for Teens

Agent Six of Hearts is a teenage spy with a terrible secret - he was never born. He's a genetically engineered weapon, made in a lab, designed to be the perfect soldier. So when the agency Six works for starts investigating the lab that created him, he needs to get there first, to hide the truth - but how?Australian author Jack Heath's debut work was a smash-hit in his home country, and it's easy to see why. It's a symphony of conspiracies, plot twists and death-defying stunts. The action scenes are more explosive and intense than those of any Hollywood movie, and the characters are strong enough to back them up. Hard to believe Heath wrote it as a high-school student.

    NO LIE ABOUT IT..

Okay I not going to lie to you but this is a really good book. It has a part two out but I can't find it anywhere. But the book is good enough not to have a second part. I have had my boss read it two and he is now looking for the second part online (no luck either). Good story. Really is. You will not be wasting your money or time at all. I makes you look at the world just a tad different. It is good story from ages: lets say 10-100. The reason I haven't mention nothing about the story ,is because I feel like the right thing to do is not ruin the amazement.......

Agent Six of Hearts works to save innocent people and uncover the truth. He participates in many dangerous missions, often getting himself nearly killed. But Agent Six has never failed a mission -- and he's only sixteen years old.

But that isn't why Agent Six seems to be so perfect. The truth is that Agent Six was made to have almost super-human powers, to be a killing machine. And now Agent Six must save his country and also hide from the corrupted government officials who are trying to find their super-killers that they created.

Jack Heath writes a mysterious and action-packed novel that is sure to please any 007 fans. He creates a world where people are terrified under a suppressive government and it's up to The Deck, a super-secret organization, to save the innocent civilians and uncover the government's secrets.

With a cliffhanger at the end, THE LAB is sure to be the next Alex Rider series...

    I Also Recommend:

    Best action I've read recently

I hate walking into a bookstore with so much anticipation and then not even finding a book scintillating enough to buy. Luckily, I found "The Lab." While I admittedly had a few hesitations and continued browsing, I eventually bought the book.
I read "The Lab" in one sitting. I haven't read such a good teen action book since "The Black Tattoo." The plot is well thought out and races you throughout the book, dragging you along as its willing passenger. The writing is well executed and rich with details. Agent Six is a phenomenal character. My dad is even reading the book currently, as I recommended it to him.
In conclusion, this book is totally worth buying. I eagerly await Jack Heath's next book.

The Lab is an interesting read with several plot twists guarenteed to catch and keep the readers attention, Agent Six of Hearts is a one of a kind character whose genetic advantages are bound to have you coming back for more.
