My name is Tom, I'm British (half Welsh, half English, if it matters). I'm 28 and taking my first official steps towards putting my writing in front of a real audience... Scary! But also exciting...
What else to say? 'I love stories' is a good start, I guess, reading them, hearing them, telling them and writing them.
I think I wrote my first story when I was very young, after a visit to Dartmoor (thats in Devon, in the UK, for anyone who doesn't know), a now half-remembered tale about a Dartmoor Pony and a Puma... I think it was influenced by the stories I'd heard about big cats loose in the wilds of the moor and an old Norfolk tale about Black Shuck (look it up if you don't know it, great campfire chiller). However it came to be, it marked the beginning of a near-obsession with myth, folklore and urban legends.
Apart from the rich and bountiful tapestry of myth and folklore, I'm quite heavily influenced by several other writers, in spirit if not style. Writers as diverse as Neil Gaiman, John Connolly, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Allen Poe, Algernon Blackwood and Graham Swift. Alister Maclean was a favourite when I was growing up, and I'm a huge fan of Philip Pullman.
