Overview

When Stella Jo Chandler gets an offer to work at the Second Chance Ranch celebrity rehab facility right after graduating from Texas A&M, she's tempted to turn it down. She wants to help real people with real problems, not spoiled celebrities going on vacation for publicity. But growing up on her family's ranch left her with a love of horses that draws her to the opportunity. How bad can babysitting a bunch of strung out celebrities be?

What she didn't count on was being roped into a tangled mess with infamous rocker and three-time rehab drop out Van Ransom on her first day. And she sure didn't expect to feel the overwhelming attraction that pulls her to the man who has more issues than she can count on both hands. Like the hotel rooms and tour buses he's famous for trashing, the havoc he could wreak on Stella's heart would be irreparable.

Van isn't at Second Chance for publicity or because he's suffering from "exhaustion". He's on the brink of destruction, and he needs the kind of help Stella isn't sure she can give. But without her, he'll lose everything. Because he's on his last second chance.

I just finished this book! It is a 5 Star read! His life is spiraling out of control. Her life has no depth of emotions. When they literally crash into each other, both their lives will change.

This is a forbidden love because he is a patient and she is an employee of the rehab center. Van has never cared for anyone else since his sister died. He is broken inside and thinks he is incapable of leading a normal life... he just wants to forget. Rock 'n Roll, drugs, booze and women are the bandaid of his choice.

Stella has lived a fairly normal life, except it has been void of love and affection from her parents. She has always tried to achieve perfection hoping for once to feel her parents are proud of her and love her. She has taught herself to be numb on the inside because the alternative is too painful.

These characters are so real you feel their pain. When they finally discover how they feel about each other, the pages sizzle with their passion. Their journey into discovering their better selves and growing into the individuals they want to be will keep hooked until the very end.

As the dedication of this book reads..." For those of you who've ever loved someone who was broken. It takes true devotion to give a piece of your soul to someone else."

    5 Stars!

I knew this story was going to be an emotional rollercoaster the moment I read the first chapter from Stella Jo’s point of view and then Van’s first chapter. They both have pasts that have hurt them, brought them down, and damaged their souls. But one day, they collide, literally, and the moment their eyes connect Van begins to see how awful he’s treating himself and Stella Jo feels, for the very first time.
Van wakes up in a hospital room, waking up for the first time in days. He overdosed. And not for the first time. But this time is different. His band has just recently got out from under the claws of their record label, moving on to a new and better record label, but there’s a catch. Van has to go to rehab (for the hundredth time-not really, but close) and he has to actually complete the 90 days, because he usually gets kicked out before his days in a rehab facility days are up. If he doesn’t go, his band will be dropped and that won’t do, so Van agrees.
Stella Jo is just graduating college, with two options. Accept the job at Second Chance Ranch or go home and work on the family farm-which she hasn’t been back to since she left for college. There are many reasons for this. One: she would race horses, but during a race her horse fell on her leg and broke it and her horse was put to sleep, leaving her unable to get back up on a horse, and here’s where number two comes in-this disappointed her parents, she no longer to be the perfect daughter, so she was left with an emptiness, loneliness her parents refused to fill. So she picked Second Chance Ranch.
The day of Stella Jo’s walk around of the facility, before she accepted the job, Van collided with Stella, making her drop all her paperwork. Van helps her pick up the mess of paper he caused and when their eyes collided, everything changed.
But one thing that halted every single dirty, X-rated fantasy they wanted to have with each other; no client-employee relationships, if there are, the client is kicked out and the employee is fired.
So what to do when for the first time you want to be a better man or for the first time you don’t feel that emptiness, that loneliness; you finally feel needed, wanted, cherished.

    “Some sins are worth it.”

I gave this book 5 stars and let me tell you why. This story is about two people who are damaged in the worst ways. They have horrific pasts, hurting each and every second of the day, just trying to survive. And when they find each other, they pull emotions out of each other and make you hurt and want to soothe them, make them feel wanted. Make them understand that they are enough, no matter others have said to them.
Van and Stella’s story is a rollercoaster. There are so many emotions messing with their minds, confusing their sexual encounters. Making them feel more than they ever have. Making them decide what they want for the first time in their lives. They risk it all to have love. The true, heart-warming, world tilting, kind of love. The kind of love all humans search for and Van and Stella’s story reinforces that you can find real love, story book love, but you gotta fight, you gotta make decisions that could change your life. You have to risk everything to gain the most precious thing in the world. And believe that some sins are worth it.

Caisey Quinn brought her sexy all the way up to 10! Last Second

Caisey Quinn brought her sexy all the way up to 10!
Last Second Chance was a provocative and intimate read that kept me up late into the night. It was edgy and fast paced and while it did push my boundaries, I found it to be completely relatable and addicting. I was totally unable to put it down. A must read!

So without giving anything away, this novel is about a rock star that has hit rock bottom. He was given an ultimatum - go to rehab or no music deal. He's definitely not excited about this forced rehab stint but he'll do anything he can to hang on to his music career. Things start to look up when he hits rehab and runs into the new sexy little employee named Stella. Van knows from the very beginning that his attraction to her isn't something he should give in to. She's different from all his other conquests. She's something he's not sure he's ready for.

Then there's Stella. She's jumping headfirst into a new job at Last Second Chance Ranch. She needs this job because she doesn't want to go running back to her hometown. Her parents are an issue that she doesn't want to deal with quite yet. Or ever. Stella loves horses and is excited to find out that she can help out in the stables at Last Second Chance Ranch. She has no idea what she's in for when she meets Van. They both bring steam to those stables. Lots of steam! They are playing with fire because they are risking it all for each other as their careers hang in the balance.

Overall, this is a sexy little read. While it's a tad edgier than Caisey Quinn's other work, it still has that spark that her fans love so much. I found the characters to be completely relatable along with their relationship. This book was so intimate while showing the tumultuous side of Van and Stella's relationship at the same time. I loved Stella because she was a female character that I could relate too, and I loved Van because he was one of those redeemable bad boys that I can never get enough of. Basically, I loved Van and Stella-- Team Vanella!! I can't wait to get my hands on more books in this series. This is a standalone with a sweet ending

This is the first book of Caisey Quinn¿s I¿ve read, but I¿m plan

This is the first book of Caisey Quinn‘s I’ve read, but I’m planning to remedy that soon. Last Second Chance is just the first of a new series. And may I just say, Yay! I loved Stella and Van. I think the dynamic between them is almost tangible to the reader.

I loved Van and Stella together. He’s a bit rough around the edges, but you can see that he has real feelings for Stella. Stella, or Stella Jo, has real feelings for Van too. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. She’s never really felt before. The way he makes her feel is new and slightly uncomfortable for someone who’s always built walls.

Stella is a senior in college, just about to graduate. She’s faced with a dilemma from the get go. She doesn’t want to go home. Well, home is not really the right word. She’s never felt at home there. She grew up on a ranch and was quite the equestrian until an unfortunate incident in her late teens which resulted in a serious injury for her and the the death of her horse. She hasn’t rode since, and has made excuses not to go back over the years. She has an offer to work at a facility called Second Chance Ranch. She won’t really be doing the kind of work her degree field is in, but this job will give her the opportunity to pay for furthering her education. The patients there, or clients as they’re called, are rich and entitled….and in Van Ransom’s case, famous.

Van Ransom is the lead singer in Hostage for Ransom. He has more second chances than anyone deserves. After waking up in a hospital after yet another night of partying he’s faced with two options. Screw up again, and lose this band (and possibly die), or go to the Second Chance Ranch to straighten himself up. He’s been to rehab before, it’s just been for show. No problem, right? Not this time. After finally getting away from their record label that they hated they have an offer from a new label. But this new label won’t stand for his mess, and neither will his longtime friend and manager, Sid. So, it’s off to Second Chance ranch.

From the first time they’re in the same place, it’s electric. As Stella’s taking a tour of her new job, Van is checking in for his 60 day stint. They both feel the connection, and if they do anything about it-Stella’s out of a job, and Van may be out of the band. As Stella is also living on the property they are often around each other. Each time, you can feel the pull between these two. Van has demons in his past, and Stella isn’t quite as whole as she seems.

They share a few sweet moments, they share a few more hot moments, and they each have to keep themselves in check. As Stella, or Stella Jo, as Van calls her, has ranch experience she helps with the horses at the ranch. Van asks if he can help to pass the the time, idle hands and all that. This gives them an excuse to spend more time together, and pretty soon we see that this isn’t just a passing fancy or a case of easy access. Stella isn’t quite so sure about Van’s overall intentions, or if he has anything else going with anyone.

They’re both wounded, they both have secrets, but they have some special together. We get to see this unfold, secrets founds out, and lives changed forever in this book.

I was gifted a copy of this book for an honest review. *Though I loved it so much I ran out and bought my own copy when it went on sale early!*This is the first book of Caisey Quinn‘s I’ve read, but I’m planning to remedy that soon. Last Second Chance is just the first of a new series. And may I just say, Yay! I loved Stella and Van. I think the dynamic between them is almost tangible to the reader.

You guys. This book. Just wow. Caisey Quinn does smolderingly sexy with a side of dirty really, really well. But, there's so much more to this book than just steamy sexy scenes. It's a great, honest look at addiction and how it affects those around the person who suffers from it.

Last Second Chance is told from the perspectives of Van and Stella. Van is a rock star who has bottomed out. After given one last chance to conquer his addiction, he finds himself at Second Chance Ranch. Second Chance Ranch is a rehab facility that offers the privacy and anonymity celebrities so desperately need when they're facing something like this. Stella is a new grad who has just begun her job at the ranch. I really liked both Van and Stella. They may have come from different worlds and they might not be facing the same demons, but they're both desperately in need of a second chance.

Van and Stella's chemistry was undeniable from the start. They had passion, wicked sexual tension and a real desire to know the other person.  Of course, a romance between staff and a patient is also completely prohibited, so you know things aren't going to be smooth. Despite the fact that Van's on his last chance, he's willing to risk it for what he has with Stella. She's different from the women in his past and can offer him something more. Theirs isn't an easy relationship, but it is filled with lots of sweet and sexy moments that I've come to expect from Caisey's books.

This book begins a new series, but it's of standalone books. Last Second Chance has a very fulfilling ending that caused me to shed a tear or two. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Move over Trace Corbin, move over Landon O’Brien there is a new book boyfriend on my list and his name is Van Ransom. Holy hot tamale, Van is the epitome of the bad boy rock star. He lives his life trying to block out the memories of his past by using many drugs, alcohol, and of course many, many women. His soon-to-be label and manager gave him an ultimatum go to rehab or lose everything he had worked for, including being replaced in his band. Naturally, he decides to go to rehab, Second Chance Ranch, to please his label and manager for the time being. What he didn’t expect was to run into Stella Jo Chandler, they literally collide into each other the first time they meet. Stella’s turns Van’s whole world upside down, she keeps him grounded and keeps his night-terror memories from the front of his mind. Instead of living just to escape his memories he starts to live for Stella and be a better man not just for her but for himself also.

Stella Jo Chandler hasn’t lived her life since before she got injured during a showcase. Her childhood wasn’t warm or inviting so as an adult she keeps people at a distance because that is what she know, what she grew up around. She takes a job at Second Chance Ranch because she can’t go home and face the disappointment in her mother’s eyes because she doesn’t live the lifestyle that her mother wants her too. She doesn’t go back home because she doesn’t want to face her father that could never look at her, none the less walks out of the room when she walks in. Starting new at SCR trying to leave her past behind her, learning the dos and don’ts of the facility, she runs into Van and is mesmerized by him. Actually, I would be drooling over him but that’s just me. Just being in his presence makes her feel, probably-er-mostly lust but that’s still a feeling. While at SCR she gets to know him and around him makes her want to feel and have emotions for another human being. Knowing the number one rule at SCR, absolutely no employee-client relations, she is hesitant in forming such deep bonds with Van but she is pulled to him like a moth to a light, like two magnets.

Many may say that this story has the insta-love element to it but I think that it was a very small influence in the story. They met and were attracted to each other but they got to know each other first and formed a bond. They each had their own issues and they both had to work through those issues but they needed each other in order to work through their pasts. Two broken people find their other halves, their person that makes them whole and they take on each other’s battles, they stand in each other’s corners and be their strength when they are down; that is what Van and Stella are for each other.

This book is more than just a forbidden love story; it isn’t an insta-love, happily ever after right away story. This story isn’t sugar coated; it takes on deep issues, like addiction, that many people have experienced in one way or another. LSC starts with an author’s note explaining a little about her family’s struggle with addiction this note shows others, whether they are an addict or their family, that read it that they are not alone in those struggles and that they too can find light in the darkest of hours. CQ put her whole heart into this book and it shines throughout. This story is one I definitely recommend and will probably read over and over again.

I was super excited for this book! I love Caisey Quinn, she is like a freaking magician with words! So needless to say I was super excited for this book. It’s similar to her Kylie Ryan’s series, but obviously with some differences. This is a Standalone book and I am assuming that each book to come will also be a Standalone (although the characters may cross over… I hope)

    The Story:

Stella Jo has finally graduated but she doesn’t want to go home, there are some major issues with her family (and when they came out I was like WHAT?!) really effed up! So she has decided to make her own way and secured a job at the Second Chance Ranch (fans of the Kylie Ryan’s series may be slightly familiar with this) But of course there is drama to come for Stella Jo, I wish that my drama came from a hot tattooed bad boy musician.

Anyways, so Van is at the Second Chance Ranch because he cant deal with life, and so he does drugs and drinks to dull the pain. There are stipulations placed on Van and he HAS to make it through the whole program or his career is finished. But as fate is fickle sometimes, when these two literally bump into each other sparks fly… and that is where their journey begins… and let me tell you it’s a hot mess! Sexy, fun, flirty, sad, painful… amazing!

    The Characters:

I LOVE Stella Jo, she comes across as really sweet and innocent… but then BAM! She is so not as innocent and sweet… Van definitely brings out another side of her, one that is determined and fiery and strong!

Van… Jesus! He is definitely my current book boyfriend! He is freaking hot, sexy, dangerous, but also sweet caring, and protective. He is so broken, and the path that has led him to the Second Chance Ranch broke my heart. But he is stronger then he ever thought, especially with Stella Jo beside him (because we all know that women make the man better) Van was just so perfect… I don’t know if he beats of Trace from the Kylie Ryan’s series but its pretty damn close!

    Final Thoughts:

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book and I am so excited for the books to come! This book is also super freaking steamy! There is some seriously sexy scenes that made me blush, and look over my shoulder to make sure no one was reading over my shoulder. But it was tastefully done. This book is on my highly recommend to EVERYONE list for a lot of reasons, but a big reason would be because everyone should meet my hottie goodness Van! <3

Caisey Caisey Caisey. Just when I thought I already wanted to give you big squishy hugs, you release another book. Then I want to give you big squishy hugs and kiss your face! How could you possibly have been nervous about the release of this book!?!? How did you have any doubt how good this was!?!? I think there is something in the water with authors lately because y'all have been writing some amazing books! Okay, I know this is weird but can I just say that I love how Van isn't perfect and he doesn't pretend to be. I love his wit and sarcasm. I love his banter with Stella. I love his ... Ummmm sexual encyclopedia of tricks. And with Stella. She almost starts off as this mouse. This little thing. But man did she have us fooled, that woman is fierce. Her love is fierce, her strength is fierce, her determination is fierce. It's like Van unlocked this in her, let the beast out. And I loved. Every. Minute. Caisey does an amazing job of pulling you into the story of Van and Stella, like a magnet you are drawn to them. Even with hurtful words spat from his mouth, and we know how much words can hurt, I was still team Van. But there were also curveballs thrown in I didn't see coming... The fiancé, the band, her mother. But all of it, his past, her parents secrets, all of it. I could understand and empathize with all of it. It wasn't something that was out of this world crazy circumstances. It's all very real. And with the way Caisey writes you can't help but imagine going through all those choices each one of our characters had to make. You can't help but feel like you like the moment. It's just amazing, it's really the only word that comes to mind. From start to fighting finish, it's imperfectly perfect.

I was hooked on that blurb, even though it sounded like a typica

I was hooked on that blurb, even though it sounded like a typical New Adult novel about bad boys and the love that heals them. Last Second Chance was a little bit more than that, but not by much.

Honestly, the whole Van being at rehab and trying to overcome his addiction did not feel believable to me. It's the whole point of the book; how this is his last second chance before he destroys his career and his life. But the author didn't focus on it enough; his development from the infamous druggie to the kind of man that's worthy of love went from A to Z in such a short time. I thought he would have more problems, that it'd be harder for him. But it wasn't, really. What this book focused on was Van's personality, his darkest demons and how he can't let go of his past. Instead of making this a book about addiction, it could easily have been one about finding the strength to move on. One about therapy and taking the steps to overcome life's hardships. The addition of rehab for drug addiction could have been taken out altogether. (Or, at the very least, it could have been more pertinent to the story-line).

But I did love his character development. Aside from the whole being there because he has to be, and his Alpha personality, Van was a guy drowning in grief and regret who just wanted to find a foothold in sanity. He's been through a lot, which is why he uses drugs and alcohol like they're his lifeline. The numbness is what he craves, what he needs. Until he literally bumps into Stella Jo Chandler.

Stella was sometimes a flat character. Her development was sorely overshadowed by Van's. I wished it were equal. She had much more room to grow and blossom, but the author didn't let that happen until well past the halfway point. And the deal with her parents was smoothed over and everything ended perfectly. Almost too perfectly.

Their romance was the main focus of this story, but I liked that it also intertwined with Van's development, and even Stella's a little bit. A little BDSM, a little sweet, their romance was overshadowed by the fact that it's forbidden for employees and clients to have relations. They have to sneak around, try and curb their addiction for each other. These two had such great chemistry, and I enjoyed where their relationship went.

However, I grew bored throughout the book. I almost skimmed chapters. Not much happens, especially after Stella and Van finally seal the deal. Then it's focused on their romance and not much else. Even their pasts were kind of smoothed over like it was that easy to leave behind. It honestly could have improved with a little more drama, especially since they had to sneak around behind everyone's backs and only two people actually said something about it. They weren't being that discreet.

Last Second Chance was about two broken characters finding the kind of love that heals all. The two main characters had great chemistry, and I loved how Van's development happened. I just wish there'd been more to this story. This was the first book I've read by Caisey Quinn, but it definitely won't be the last.
