Highly enjoyable and involving plot! There are lots of little (and big) twists that really worked well within the ongoing story-line. Can't wait for the next in the series!

An author¿s arrival in town leads to his murder and when Olivia and the team search for clues, they know they will have to uncover the past in order to find a killer. WOW! They say it¿s the words that bring a story to life and in The Last Word that is just what the author achieved. So much emotion in each and every scene that when I neared the end, the tears shed, would not stop. This book boasts among other things, a great mystery, extraordinary friendships, an incredible cast of characters and a pleasant atmosphere that I look forward to on my yearly visits to Oyster Bay. This is the best book, thus far, in this wonderfully charismatic and mesmerizing series.

I have loved all the books in this series but this one is the best so far and brings to light the authors amazing growth as a writer. Ellery Adams takes a little snippet of North Carolina history, unknown to most people, and masterfully weaves a mystery featuring the characters we have gotten to know and love right into that history making it relevant today. It is absolutely brilliant. The way the mystery unfolds surprised me but it just flowed so naturally it couldn¿t have played out any other way. Ellery writes books I really get caught up in, yes to use my tagline, I ¿escape¿ effortlessly into her stories, like I am actually smelling the ocean, feeling the wind and hearing the ocean waves hitting the beach. I used to think it was because the best vacation our family ever had was a week spent at Caswell Beach, North Carolina, several years ago so I already had a picture of this seaside town in my mind, but reading this book I realized it was the author¿s words taking me there, not some old memory. In fact if we ever returned I wouldn¿t be surprised to find someone just like Olivia treasure hunting along the beach will her canine friend by her side. It is always the right time of year to take a mini vacation to Oyster Bay. I promise you will enjoy every minute of your trip.

The third in the Books by the Bay Mystery series, this one is Ellery Adams' best yet. Her characters keep evolving, especially Olivia, the protagonist, who continues to grapple with her emotions and her role and identity in the town of Oyster Bay. Adams does a great job of weaving historic facts into this novel, bringing the intrigue to a new level. This is a cozy that is about more than solving a murder. With humor, pathos, and intelligence, The Last Word draws the reader into the lives of characters who cope with real life issues and into a captivating mystery. Thank goodness this is not Ellery Adams' last word!

Olivia¿s life is pretty full right now. She¿s got the opening of her new restaurant, to be run by her new-found brother and sister-in-law, the impending birth of her nephew, helping Harris find the home of his dreams, trying to figure out just what is going on with Laurel, and finally dealing with her feelings for Chief Rawlings. On top of all of that, she also needs to find time to work on her book. Booker Prize-winning author Nick Plumely arrives in town, with everyone thinking he is there to write a sequel to his best-selling book about a murder and escape at the New Bern Prison camp, located near Oyster Bay. When he shows a great deal of interest in the house Harris wants to buy, Olivia works her magic, guaranteeing that Harris buys the house. To the delight of the Bayside book writers, Nick agrees to attend their next meeting at Harris¿s new house. But it appears that he is more interested in the house itself, and what it may hide, than what anyone has written. Then Nick is found dead, and the piece he is looking for is found. Now they must figure out if this piece was valuable only to Nick, or if it means just as much to someone else - someone who wouldn¿t think twice about killing again. And can Olivia, her constant companion Captain Havilland, and the rest of the Bayside book writers solve the mystery before it¿s too late? Ellery Adams is at her best in The Last Word, the third book in the Books by the Bay series (see A Killer Plot & A Deadly Cliché). Ellery possesses the incredible talent of not only keeping the books each of the Bayside book writers are writing moving forward, but of writing an amazing story as well. It¿s been such a joy to see the progress Olivia has made from being a rich, closed-off recluse to now having and sustaining wonderful relationships. Ellery has done a remarkable job of retelling a part of history that many aren¿t familiar with and making the reader feel as if they were experiencing it first-hand. The reader is 100% completely drawn into the story. I had such a visceral experience when reading this book; I could actually feel the wind on my face, taste the salt of the ocean on my lips, and hear the waves crash upon the beach. The Last Word made me laugh, made me think, made me smile, and made me cry. The Last Word ¿ in one word ¿ AMAZING!

I have been a fan of this author and in particular this series for a long time. But with this, the third installment in the Books By The Bay series she has produced her best work to date. You can see growth not only by Ellery Adams but the changes for Olivia are very evident in this book as well. The story line was very rich in history which I just love when it is worked in correctly. The story itself is so exciting and keeps you guessing....I had to stay up late one night to finish the book because I had to know how everything tied together. One thing I have always enjoyed about Ellery's endings is they do not end abruptly as in "crime solved the end". There are always a few more real life moments with characters that I have come to see as "friends". Do not pass this series but especially this book up! You will love it.

Ms. Adams joutdid herself with this book! As an avid reader if her books I've been looking forward to this release for awhile. The wait was worth it. The character development of Olivia from a distant independent to a family oriented woman without sacrificing her independence was so smooth, it couldn't have been more natural. Combine that skill with introducing history to the reader (and the writers group) and you have an instant success! Bravo Ellery! I look foward to the next installment!

When it comes to sequels, you have the good ones and the really good ones and the ones that you just love. The third in the Books by the Bay series, I just loved. I was going to give this the usual 4 but no. There was a lot that happens in this one. I just loved while the mystery was going on, the book writer's club had their own arc or were going through an arc. Especially Olivia. I liked her character from book 1. Sure I wasn't sure if I was going to like her, or any of the book writer's club to be honest. But they grow on you. They really do and what helps immensely is the writing style. Just the pace while slow is perfect for this series. Yet another murder mystery the book writer's club find themselves in. This time is has to do with an author. And oh boy was this sad to read what with the reveal of the mystery, etc. Also that ending was adorable. The setting is especially good and sounds cozy. Perfect for a cozy mystery it seems. And doesn't help that the food descriptions in these and well any cozy mystery sounds delicious. Really good series. Looking forward to the next book.

Olivia Limoges and her book club unravel mystery and murder tied to Nazi war camp in nearby town. Very fast moving. My criticism is her dog is fed too much.

This is the third in the Books by the Bay series by Ellery Adams, and it is the best in the series so far- but than I felt that way about #2. Our girl Olivia and her trusting dog are off on another adventure. All the usual characters. But Olivia is getting to be a deeper and more interesting character. In the first book we know little about her but as the books have more along we see more and more of her mind and heart. She has gone from just a main character to a great character in my mind. Start with the first in series A Killer Plot" and you will find people and a place that you will want to return to.

The Bayside Book Writers are back to solve another mystery whether their help is needed or not. Nick Plumley a famous author comes to town and is found murdered by Olivia and Captain Haviland. This is the third book in the series and a fun read. The people are very realistic and the romance grows with the series. I love the standard poodle in this book - he is such a perfect companion to his mistress Olivia. These books are ones to add to your cozy library for sure.
