A sad, inaccurate misuse of potential
Do not buy this ASL guide. For one thing, a huge chunk of its noun, verb, and adjective flashcards are completely false. Even if they weren't, the instructions would still be difficult to follow. Upon closer examination, the alphabet card (also inaccurate) featured on the front of the box is obviously photographed at odd angles by someone who didn't actually know ASL, but probably looked at some sheet of paper and crudely tried to mimic the hand motions. Even the booklet inside, written by Rice, is confusing, incomplete, and worst of all, largely inaccurate. The one way you could find enjoyment out of this purchase? Finding another hearing person to buy the same kit, and communicate with shoddy ASL as a secret code. That way, no one, hearing or deaf, will know what you're saying!

Overview
American Sign Language (ASL) has become more and more popular over the last two decades and is now the third most common language used in North America. This booklet and flashcard set teaches you the culture of sign language and its important basics: the manual alphabet and numbers, the basic grammatical rules, and a beginner vocabulary. The handy flashcards will help you practice – and you can carry just the cards you need when you go on a shopping trip, visit the doctor's office, or stop at the library.
