Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
If there were ever a time when this reviewer recalled with gratitude the diligence and thoroughness of her writing teachers, it was while reviewing this book. The mechanics of expository writing, which many of us take for granted, are presented in an organized, attractive package that will serve the basic writing needs of students and professionals alike. Kaplan instructor Royal (Ace the GMAT) provides not only numerous examples of the principles of written English but exercises as well, with answers for those wishing to master the basics. Royal also includes tips on gender-neutral composition and designing various types of business documents. Borders and flourishes enliven the text and make the book as charming as its title. This handy reference, similar to Strunk and White's The Elements of Style, could only have been improved by the inclusion of a glossary and a general index. Recommended for high school, college, and writing collections. Ann Schade, Powers Memorial Lib., Palmyra, WI Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

    No waffle here!

'Avoid needless words,' say Strunk & White in 'The Elements of Style'. Many reference books for writers break this rule immediately. Brandon Royal manages to keep his 'Little Red Writing Book' concise. A handsome hardcover book with illustrations that take away some of the tedium present in plain texts. I heartily recommend it

    Great English Reminder

Over the course of my lifetime, I come to realize that I misuse words. I wanted to get a "cliff note" version of the basics, and this book is it. Easy to read chapters, examples and little "quizzes" help get my grammar back up to speed.

I would recommend this book for people in high school, college or any one else who needs a friendly refresher on the English Language.

    An outstanding work

The Little Red Writing Book is simply one of the best books published on the topic of writing. Brandon Royal's handy book is perfect for students, professionals, and others who want to improve their writing skills. Royal's text is also an excellent reference guide if you want to brush up on grammatical and style rules that you may have forgotten in the years after your formal education. Overall, the Little Red Writing book is one of the most useful texts I have used for essay writing.

    Bravo!

They say you can't judge a book by its cover. But the material inside this book is every bit the equal of its beautiful covering. Bravo. I toast the author and his publisher.
