Even though her cutting-edge designs and graphic legwear sometimes draw criticism from her peers, Angela knows that one day she will be a top designer, and her best friend at Kressler High, Adrian Gomez, is her biggest supporter. But at fifteen, how is anyone (like the extremely cute JaRoli Spencer) supposed to check her out when she's stuck working at her family's Caribbean-style restaurant all the time? The answer: getting elected director of her school's holiday fashion show.

But Angela's got designer-clad competition: the very popular Karen Frasier, who has it all—including JaRoli. So when Shayla Mercer, the girl with the toughest street rep, offers to make sure Angela wins—for a fee—

Angela says yes. And she learns that the price of popularity can be too high.

    When Winning Becomes Everything

Angela Jenkins desperately wants to be noticed and praised for her talent. Everyone in her family has a special gift or a talent that seems to overshadow her. Her youngest brother attends a special school for the academically gifted. Her oldest brother Quick Digits is musically gifted and has record company executives paying close attention him. Her father is a boxer with great one-two knockout punch and her mother owns a very popular restaurant. To Angela it appears as if she¿s the only one in the family who doesn¿t have any great accomplishments under her belt. Angela loves creating and designing clothes but her creations are bold and colorful, like the Cat in the Hat, which cause everyone around her to mock and laugh at her. Angela decides to enter her high school fashion competition hell-bent on proving to everyone in her family and community that she¿s more than just an average girl with colorful fabric and a sewing machine. Angela soon learns that winning her high school competition is going to take a little bit more than raw talent, especially when her archenemy Karen enters the contest. Losing is not an option for Angela so she decides to play dirty in order to take the grand prize. A Matter of Attitude is a well-written and face-paced novel filled with drama, intensity and a hint of romance. Readers will certainly add Hayden to their list of favorite authors.
