I an a 68 yo retiree who has nothing better to do than read. C L Bevill is possibly the most interesting writer in ages. i am a sci-fi/ fantasy fan and also old stuff,(Burroughs, verne, harte, etc) missel rats is a realistic military life book with realistic events. I recommend ANYTHING (am i shouting?) she writes. she is a bit off kilter, and knows humanity.

This book is written from a man's perspective, is about the army, and more than that, a nuclear weapons base in Germany in the 1980s. I am a 30-year-old woman who favors paranormal romance. And you know what? I laughed out loud and actually almost did some sort of weird fist pump when I finished this book. And then was sad that it was over. I LOVE this author. Awesome human insight, rip-roaringly funny, and endearingly REAL. I advise one and all to read everything she's ever written - it's diverse in genre, but not in quality.

I have read 12 of her books so far. Every book has interesting and unusual characters and situations. I especially love "series" books.

You can tell the author knows of what she speaks.........enjoyed the details and humor illustrated in regard to military life. I hope to see these characters again.

Gosh I am sorry for the poor rating because i just love everything else that she has written. I have read them all, & wished there were more to read when I had finished them. This book, I struggled through it & finally, said, "why am I torturing myself", "I am not enjoying this book", therefore, I never finished it. I know it is military related & she was in the military & knows from whence she speaks, but I just could not relate. Again, my apologies, I am such a huge fan of everything else she has written & hope there will be more of her books out real soon. sequel to the moon series, & the Cat Clan, & Sea of Dreams, I know there is more there.

Not as interesting to me as some of her books.

This is a wonderful book, especially for those who have served in small, less than effective military units. As usual, the author writes a well paced book with lots of humor and flashes of insight about the human condition. This author is one of our best. Isn't it interesting that she self publishes?

Being a wife of a vet, and having many vets in the family, believe me, I have heard some doozies when it comes to service stories. I was laughing outloud. I really enjoyed the humor of this book. I liked it better than I thought I would.

Since I am used to reading her books and enjoying them and out-right laughing at the many capers her subjects get themselves into I was disappointed with this one. It was more of a diary than a novel. It wasn't so disappointing that I didn't finish it but I didn't mind putting it down either. She should re-write as a serious novel or add the "fun" parts we are so used to receiving from her writings. I do agree that it may have just been me and others may have been happy with it.

I was in the Navy and miss it terribly! This book was like going home. It was spot on with the way it really is in the military even with the liberties that the author's taken. Loved this book and have read all of the others by this author and look forward to more. Thanks for reminding me just how messed up we all were and how we all had a little Skeet and Brown in us along with all of the good memories too.

My husband was stationed in Germany years ago. I see that not much changed over the years. Reading this book brought back so many memories. I cried...I laughed.
