Overview

Young Wynne of Gwernach believes love is an illusion. She devotes herself to managing the great family estate in Wales, vowing to protect it and her younger brother until he comes of age to inherit. Then Madoc of Powys enters her life, and all her beliefs are turned upside down. For Wynne and Madoc have been lovers in another time, another place. And an unfinished destiny lies between them . . .

The sky is the limit as the beloved creator of Skye O'Malley spins a spellbinding new tale set in 11th-century Wales. Wynne is a young beauty who doesn't believe in love, and Madoc is a Celt who evokes a very human desire in Wynne. The pair have been lovers in another time, another place, but what unfinished destiny lies between them?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Veteran romance novelist Small ( The Spitfire ) is capable of better work than this mediocre fantasy with its rudimentary characters and over-elaborate plot. ``Somewhere in time'' Rhiannon of ``the Fair Folk'' relinquished her magic powers to marry a Welsh mortal, Pwyll. But he betrayed her trust and, as a punishment, he is to be reincarnated repeatedly, searching during every life for the soul of Rhiannon until he finds her and she forgives him. In 1060, Wynne of Gwernach (Rhiannon's soul) marries Madoc of Powys-Wenwynwyn (Pwyll's soul). In this life, Madoc somehow ends up with the magic powers. He concocts a brew to help Wynne remember their shared past life and, of course, she freely forgives him. But then Wynne (who is more compassionate than intelligent) resolves to patch up a feud between Madoc and his evil half-brother Brys. She visits Brys, who, true to form, seizes her, selling her and her unborn child into slavery. This puts Wynne into a snit, but her owner is kind and a terrific lover, so she adapts. But Madoc/Pwyll has lost his love yet again and sets out to track down Wynne/ Rhiannon. (Sept.)

    Lousy

Bertie was clearly just going through the motions. Heroine is incredibly stupid even for romance novels.

    Best read ever

A few years ago this book was loaned to me. As I began reading it I noticed the more I read, the harder it was to put down. It transported me directly into the story! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants swept away and taken on a romantic ride.

I am still in awe of this wonderful book

I have always been a frequent reader of Bertrice Small books. And just recently I have decided to purchase all of the books I have lost or read so long ago. A moment in time is a wonderful book, and it had my heart soaring!!!! I love all of Bertrice Small books but I think this is my favorite. I just reaffirms that true love will conquer all.

    Storytelling at it's best!!

This ranks as one of Ms. Small's best!! The ultimate in escapism! I didn't want it to end, but when it did it was a wonderful ending!! Definitely a keeper!!

    Definately her BEST

This book puts you right in the middle of a world that could only exist in the mind of daring story teller, like Bertrice Small. This is by far my favorite of all her books, and I've read almost all of them. I only read a few more than once and this one I've read to many times to remember.

    Love It

I love this book so much. I have read it like 3 or 4 times since I was 13 and I am 19 now. Beatrice makes it feel like you are right there with Madoc and Wynne. I recomend this book highly to readers who are in love or just want to read a nice love novel.

I wish that she would write more books like this one. She is one of the 'Best' Author that you would wish that you are the person she is writing about......

    Magical, mythical, mystical.

I adore this book. Just when you think everything is going to end happily ever after Small throws you for a loop. She weaves a perfect romantic tragedy, if you enjoyed West Side Story, Titanic, or Romeo and Juliet then you really must read this story. I have it in hardback and intend to give it to my daughter when she gets old enough.
