When a young flight attendant disappears during a terrorist bombing in Hong Kong, his sister must brave a series of conspiracies to clear his name. The central characters in Rice's lethargic latest (Blind Fall, 2008, etc.) are Megan Reynolds and her petulant brother Cameron. Newly unemployed, Megan is holed up with their socialite mother when Cameron shows up at her birthday party, where they get into an argument about their long-gone father. Soon after, Megan starts working for Lucas, a wealthy cousin who sets her up as head of a nonprofit environmental organization. Her plans are derailed when a massive explosion rips through Cameron's hotel in Hong Kong, and a video camera catches him fleeing the scene with a Middle Eastern fixer. Following her brother's trail to Hong Kong, Megan meets a young Saudi prince named Aabid, who explains at interminable length about his involvement with Cameron. Uncharacteristically, her brother had rejected the prince's advances, and he'd also threatened to expose the bloodthirsty relationship between Aabid's wealthy family and Zach Holder, a ruthless American mogul who is one of Lucas' biggest clients. Rice manages to hold together a paper-thin plot and even makes some salient points about sexuality in Muslim cultures. These few worthwhile moments are swamped by an endless barrage of expository passages, ham-fisted action sequences and hackneyed dialogue. "I've only been seeing shades and shadows and soft edges. Now I see cracks and angles . . . and blood," says Megan during a typical exchange. There are plenty of cracks in her story, that's for sure. A hollow potboiler.

    Chris Rice does it again

    Christopher Rice has, like his mother, never written a disappointing novel. You'll love the characters, plot and everything about this his fifth novel.

    I'd love it if he were to write another based in New Orleans. When he describes settings in NOLA, it's proof positive there's no place like home.

    Just finished

    Wow another great book by Christopher Rice. His writing is so articulate and clean never giving you more than you need to get to the next page and always a constant filled with characters that you can never forget.

    Strong Book yet again

    I have loved reading all of Chris Rice's books and the Moonlit Earth does not disappoint. I like the fact that he went back to using a female character as a lead and the story line still flows like you would be in the story itself.

    The new life of Prince Aabid

    I just finish reading Christopher Rice 5th novel " The Moonlit Earth" and I have to say I didn't like it in the beginning but once I made it to the 20th or 21st chapter I said to myself "now this is what I was waiting for". What surprise me the most was that Christopher Rice made the hero into a heroin, Megan. Since his other novels, it was always the gay guy and the str8 guy who were the heroes. I was not been expecting the girl to be the hero and the gay guy being the victim.
    Once I finish reading the novel, I feel in love with his writing all over again. He really knew how to keep the book interesting and now that I am done with it, I am left with a lot of questions. What became of the Prince's life? Yes we know he is alive but is he out and did he find someone he can with (intimate wise) like he wanted to be with Cameron? I would love to meet Zach Holder, find out what he was thinking while everything was coming out to the open, plus his involvement? Yes we do get some idea of what or whom he was but I want to know what was in his head? What about Majed, did he get what he wanted, back in good grace with his father after he left the bathroom?
    Maybe Christopher Rice can write a short novel like Stephenie Meyer did with Bree Tanner novel. You know like the "The New Life of Prince Aabid" or " The Very Very Short Life of Zach Holder" just an idea..

    The Moonlit Earth

    His fifth novel was not the kind of horror novel that I was expecting, however it was very good and stands up to the standards of what I come to expect from Christopher Rice. I always enjoy his novels. This is one were once you start, you will not want to put it down until you've finished it. Be prepared for a fantastic read! 'The Moonlit Earth' is suspenseful, thrilling, and a good mystery with dark family secrets.
    Cameron and Megan are brother and sister. Cameron works as a flight attendant, and Megan is starting over with the help of her cousin Lucas. Their parents divorced when they were younger, and Megan was the one who raised Cameron, not their mother.
    Megan is shocked to see her brother on the news in a video with an unidentified Middle Eastern man, believed to be the bombers of a Hong Kong hotel. Knowing her brother, Megan runs to Cameron's defense.
    If that wasn't enough, she is shocked again to find out that Cameron not only went in search of their father, but also has been living with him for a while. It really doesn't matter to her whether he keeps contact with their father or not, but she doesn't want to reconnect with him.
    Her sibling protection will take her to China and to dizzying heights to distant islands, where she searches for her brother with the mysterious Middle Eastern man. Family secrets of wealth, jealousy, and vindictive hatred come to the surface through her hunt, when Lucas is shot in the face right in front of her! She didn't even see it coming. (I don't know about you. If you put me thousands of feet in the air, traveling above the ocean in a tiny cable car with only a bar to hold on to, and witness the detailed death of a once trusted family member. You have my full and undivided attention, because now I am scared!)
    Cameron has become involved with a royal Saudi family, and used as an acceptable casualty to a family member's dark and desperate actions. He has proof and means to show it. Cameron surprises me with his standards. (Put a gorgeous and willing Middle Eastern man in front of me, with over two grand offered, I am sleeping with him before I see the envelope of money.) Cameron tries to be more than just a one-night stand. He tries to be a friend. Will he be found and saved before the Chinese police, the vengeful Saudi family, and the evil family member get to him first? Even then, can Cameron and his sister truly be saved and free?
