I am finally on the last book, "A Second Chance". I have enjoyed reading these books this summer. Loved all of the characters...except for Charlie and Jimmy. Felt like I was watching a movie in my head! I'm going to miss Amy, Lizzie, Frank, Sarah and the rest of the crew. These are books that you can't put down! I am so glad I was able to read these and to think it started off with the free book "Sentence of Marriage". Great deal!

Easy, fun read. Good contrast on the cousins lives. For all the abuse in amys life... her cousin lizzys husband is so endearing and supportive. The parts that tell of the abuse are sad, but ring so true in many lives, even today. I love how the author humanises the abuser also. Enjoyed the accurate historical content...like to feel like i am learning while i am reading a good story. Now i know where New Zealand is!

If you enjoyed ' Sentence of Marriage', you will love this continuation of the story. You will get even more drawn into the lives of the Leiths and Kellys and I didn't want it to end! So, I'm happy to say, there are two more books! The writing style is such that you feel like you know these people! Read the whole series! You will find yourself thinking of the characters after the book is finished!

I enjoyed the first book in this series so much that, of course, I had to get this one. The abuse Amy suffers is graphic and disturbing. I found myself, after a while, thinking "Another butt kicking?" and being slightly less fazed than I could have been. I felt that the horror just drug on until it occurred to me that Amy must have felt much the same way. In all, this was another captivating creation!

I find myself unable to put down this series. It is definitely good, yet this second book in the series was filled with a lot of physical and mental abuse. Having gone through that myself, I found it hard to continue reading and almost put the book aside at one point. Perhaps my ability to identify with Amy (although I was not treated nearly so badly as she was) helped me muddle through. There are other good parts, success stories of other families and women in the story...like I said a really good book and series...however, I am hoping that soon the abusive situation will be a thing of the past and Amy and her sons will be able to live a normal life. As soon as I finished this book, I had to buy and download the final installment...so, there you have it, even though some of it was hard to read through the story still had me held firm. Definitely worth the price...heck, these books should be selling for far more than they are! Enjoy!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading every book in this saga. I am currently on the last book, A Second Chance, and I almost hate to get to the end of the story. I have been so mesmerized all the way through. At times, I've cried, and at other times, I've almost wanted to become a character in the book so I could give some of the other characters my two cents and offer sympathy to others. The story is very well written and will keep you turning the pages. Definitely recommend this book. It's a must read!!!

This second book in the series makes me all the more interested to find out how Amy and her true family and friends will work things out. When reading these books you must keep in mind the period of time and place. A lot is hard to take and some characters are enough to make you scream but most of them make it worth reading on. If you are looking for a fairy tale ending I'm sure you already know to look for something else. Excellently written though.

Shayne Parkinson got it right! All of her Sentence of Marriage series' are hard to put down, and easy to believe in that era of time. I breezed through all three, and the final one, A Second Chance, in just a few weeks. All 4000+ pages. For the price, and Sentence of Marriage is free, (the rest are $2.99) these are an unbelievable bargain! I will definitely look for future books by this author. The brutish Charlie will make you seeth, and Amy demonstrates a loyalty to her family that is heartwarming. A must read for those who enjoy this genre!

This series has been the best read that I have read in years. The author makes you feel that you are there with the characters.

Dont waste your time with this book. The sad sick way she is treated to please others is almost as sick as her selftalk. I dont know how may times i read " I am bad" and shes the opposite. The first book was a thousand pages, sad with a sad ending. Nothing was made right in her life in the first book of over a thousand pages, just the opposite. This book made the first look like a disney story. Tragic beginning, tragic unjust ending. What is so frustrating is she refuses to tell anyone who can help her. I read some of this and skipped ahead and read the last few chapters it was just to sickening to read.

Not as good as the first book. For much of the book is very grim for both heroines (Lizzie and Amy). While I realize that life on a farm is tough, I feel that many authors (i.e. Shakespeare, Dickenson) realize that when things get too sad, you need to add some lightness to break up the gloom. The details on farming life seem to be a repeat of what was in the first book. The good people in the book seem to be too good while the bad people seem more like total villains. This polarization of between the good people and the bad people did not seem so pronounced in the first book. However, that being said I am moving on to read the third book in the series.

One of the most deppressing books I have ever read. I could'nt even get past chp 6 and found myself skipping pages. I guess if someone is into deppressing abusive relationships and is a masochist for deppressing reads then this is your book. I read the first one of the series and as depressing as it was i hoped that the second book would get better but sadly it was a waste of $ and made me depressed for days.

I have read the first three books in this series and am now in the middle of reading the last book. This series is a tear-jerker from the first chapter! I cried all the way through all three of the books, which I found are well written. The author makes you feel as if you are there in the house, on the farm, etc. If you like period novels you will like these. I couldn't stop reading at the end of each book knowing there was more to come!! Had to buy the others!! I believe Mud and Gold was probably the one I cried over the most. It's a wonder my Nook isn't water logged; I don't know how I didn't fall of the train platform because of my tears. Of course I was furious all the way through the books at the same time - the main character was just too, too soft. Depending on the subject I would read another novel by this author, and yes, these books deserve book club discussions.

This was a very hard story to read. There is so much abuse by the husband Charlie to his wife Amy that I found myself so angry reading it. I continued to read it because I can't stand to leave a book unfinished. Through out the entire story, I kept waiting for either Amy to stand up for herself or for Amy's family to take her away from such horror. Near the end, Amy does find the strength to protect herself. If you really want to read a story that will just make you mad, then read this one. There are four books to this series. I've just started the third book with hopes that it will be a better story. So far its not any better.

After reading the first book of this series, I couldn't stop, I had to continue the series to learn what happened to the characters that I had come to care deeply about!

I ordered the first book, Sentence of Marriage as a free Nook book. As soon as I started it I knew I had to read the 2nd and 3rd of the trilogy. Then it turns out there is a sequel! Couldn't get enough of this story. Loved it. Nice long books, very good characters and an interesting read.

This is the second book in the series and when I finished it, I had to continue and read the 3rd, then the 4th. This writer is brilliant! I get so immersed in the characters that I believe I'm right there with them. I recommend this series very highly.

I sort of stumbled on these books by Shayne Parkinson by accident and after I read the first one in the series I was hooked. There is romance in these books without being mushy. The stories seemed so real that I felt like I was there in New Zealand with the families in the book. I'm a 64 year old male self-employed painter and an avid reader. I just wish there were more of her books for my nook e-reader. I've also read the short book by her that was available and wanting more of her work. Gene Hosey

The book is heartwrenching. I could barely wait to pick this up. A need to see if Amy would have a happy life. Instead, I spent so much time crying. It's a great sequel, but it will break your heart.

I was pulled into this story from the beginning...I absolutely adored Amy from the first pages. I wanted to save her and comfort her. I have since read the rest of the series and overall I loved it. Although there were times it was a love/hate struggle. I am hoping there is a 5th book coming...

Well written...great characters. It was easy to get lost in the story. Just bought the sequel and about to plunge back in!

Best series I have read in years... I can't even begin to tell you how many hours I sat and read these books, not ever wanting to put them down. I was drawn in by the strong boldly depicted women and their families. I was enveloped into the story, a part of the joys and pains of their everyday lives. Great Read!!
