Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
This imaginatively designed board book enables children to follow the eight-night menorah-lighting ritual of Hanukkah by counting the "lit" tinfoil candles on each successive gatefold. With its inviting graphics and carefully written text, this is one of the finest children's books available on Hanukkah.
Children's Literature
A board book features a cut-out rectangle on each page so that when the reader turns the page, a flame shape from the left becomes a candle on the left. In this way, each candle that is added and lit on the menorah provides visual support for what night of Hanukkah is being celebrated. The accurate information in this book seems aimed at an older preschooler than the usual board-book audience but for those children already familiar with the eight days of the Jewish holiday, the book helps refresh or reinforce knowledge of the various customs of the holiday. The flames of each candle are in an eye-catching sparkly foil and each small illustration on the text side of the page features a picture families can talk about. 2005, Little Simon, Ages 2 to 6.

Kirkus Reviews
Hanukkah with its various celebrations and traditions is simply described in hard pages that offer flame-shaped cut-outs in gold foil to create a menorah on the left side with each successive turn of the page symbolizing the lighting of the eight individual candles. Bright, bold colors fill the plain, coloring-book style of outlined drawings that depict boy and girl saying the blessing, lighting of candles, Maccabee patriots, an almost empty oil jug, dreidel game, latkes and the giving of gifts and gelt (money). Emphasis is on family celebration and sharing: "Hanukkah is a time to celebrate our blessings and share them with each other." Just the right size and amount of information for little ones eager to "turn the page to light the next candle." (Board book. 1-3)

    My First Menorah

A beautifully designed book for adults as well as for children. Bright, bold and graphic art -- stands out from all the other Hanukkah books. I love how it features the menorah, and with the turn of each page, you light a shimmery candle for each night of Hanukkah. Brilliant!

    My First Menorah

I bought this book in advance, to share with my 4 yr old son. Upon reviewing the book, the Menorah die-cut format is the absolute perfect way to explain the lighting of the Menorah in a safe, flameless way. It also includes Hanukkah customs and traditions in simple language with spots of cute artwork. I bought a dozen more, for gifts! Well worth your gelt!!!
