A great introduction into the world of winos

This is an awesome and affordable introductory book for people wanting to learn about wine. The author is accessible and has a healthy sense of humor. A good book to flip through or read cover to cover.

The author starts with the absolute basics (how wine is made, what makes good wine, etc) and works into more advanced aspects of wine and fortified wines. He provides brief summaries of important wine regions, and what kind of wines are worthwhile from each. He gives a range of good wine choices for all budgets.

The book is very compact, but surprisingly full of detailed information. Unlike many other wine books I've paged through this one is well-organized, which makes it easily to take it along when searching for new wines. I've shown it to a number of friends, both advanced winos and newbies to wine, and everyone has come away entertained and informed.

Great Intro to Wine - Issues with Nook Book

This book is an excellent introduction to wine, but can also serve as a useful tool/reference for those at a more intermediate level. There is an issue with Nook Book, however (at least the version I have). Whenever, a bulleted list is presented, the initial word following the bullet does not show up. Sometimes the first letter of the word shows up, but nothing else. These lists are obviously meant to highlight and summarize a point, so it would be nice to read, rather than guess, what the author is explaining.
