Meet the Author

David Sakmyster is the award-winning author of more than twenty short stories and several novels, including the Foreword Reviews' Book of the Year Finalist, SILVER AND GOLD. He resides in Upstate New York, and is currently working on a screenplay and several other novels. THE PHAROS OBJECTIVE is part one in THE MORPHEUS INITIATIVE, a series about psychic archaeologists hunting for mystical treasures and solving historical mysteries.

From the Author: The idea for this novel came from two intriguing sources. The first was a real life scientific experiment in the late seventies that used psychics to remote-view the location of Cleopatra's palace and other mysteries in Alexandria. The second was my research into the Pharos Lighthosue, specifically some early sources stating that there were diabolical traps under the foundation that protected a great treasure - possibly the lost hoard of Alexander the Great. The idea to synthesize these two elements led to this novel - and the sequels, the first of which concerns the search for Genghis Khan's lost tomb...

For fans of thrilling action, puzzles, traps, intrigue and mysteries of Ancient History - look no further than the Pharos Objective. A gripping, cleverly crafted story rattles along at breakneck speed, taking in a variety of Mediterranean locales stuffed with suspense, clever plot and determined characters. Kevin J. Anderson describes it as the X Files meets Indiana Jones - and he's spot on. The main character, Caleb Crowe, a gifted but troubled clairvoyant who can see the past and present, is cajoled into aiding his Mother's shady partner George Waxman and his collection of psychics - the Morpheus Initiative - into searching for the treasure beneath the Pharos Lighthouse ruins in Alexandria. Spurred on by guilt for his sister's disability, grief over his father's disappearance and the visions of his internment, and his own burning curiosity for the knowledge and wisdom thought to be buried there, Caleb embarks upon the quest - which leads him through tests of his heart, his soul and his sanity, a mirror to the fiendish tests devised by the builder of the Lighthouse more than 2 Millennia ago. Along the way we meet the shadowy Keepers, who yearn to free the treasure they swore to protect, who scheme to push Caleb on to his destiny whilst keeping one step ahead of Waxman, who has dark and tortured plans of his own for the treasure, and secrets that Caleb must uncover to learn the truth about his past. Written with pace and elan, the story glides effortlessly from each discovery to the next, with unfortunates being picked off along the way by the Keepers and the Pharos itself - to a whirling climax of predestination, enlightenment and understanding that neatly answers all the questions that pop up throughout the story and leaves you hungry for more from Caleb and the Morpheus Initiative - soon to be sated in the next book of the series.

This book was a great read. The main characters were well developed. The story line was believable and drawn from both history and the author's imagination. The story is well written and I wanted to read until I finished the book. There are some lapses in the time, and this was made up for by an always moving story line. I'm ready for the next book in the series.

If you like reading about Ancient Times and even a slight belief in physics This book is for you. PHAROS OBJECTIVE is fast paced, entertaining and mostly historically correct. It holds your interest and the author's style makes one not want to put the book down. When I finished I wanted more.

Good read, i think the story could have been shortened a bit but overall great read... ill get the other 3 or 4 just because the storyline is interesting enough for me. If you like robinson and his chess team you will like this book. I found this book by way of a 12 book series introduced by robinson. Half of which i found interesting. -michal

Indiana Jones it ain't. It is a tedious story. I stuck with it and found the end acceptable but it certainly didn't make the journey worth the effort. I won't be reading any sequels.

I wrote a fairly detailed review on this book a while back, but for some reason, even though I intended to give it 5 stars, the review I posted showed only one star. This bothered me,because I didn't know how to correct it. Now, I am not seeing my original review at all, so I am happy to repost with the star rating I feel it deserves. This book hooked me from the first page, and never let go! If you like ancient mysteries, conspiracies, suspense and intrigue, with a little paranormal thrown into the mix, then you will love this book. I thought it was extremely well written, with great character development and a plot line that kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning, because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I am so glad I stumbled across this book, and found a great author to add to my "go to" list. I have read the second book in the series (The Mongol Objective) as well, and was equally pleased. I cannot wait for the third book to come out! So obviously, I highly recommend this book. Give this new author a go. You won't be disappointed.
