Overview

"It is almost Friday night. Outside, the dark is getting darker," and here and there around the city ninety-two men and thirteen women are getting dressed to go to work. First they bathe and put on their underwear. Then they don special black-and-white apparel. Then when the one hundred and five people are completely ready, each takes a musical instrument and travels to midtown. There, at 8:30 tonight, they will work together: playing.

In these pages Karla Kuskin and Marc Simont combine their talents to give us a delightful and unusual inside view of one way an orchestra prepares.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
From taking showers and putting on underwear to donning tuxedos or black dresses, Kuskin and Simont describe step-by-step how one hundred five people get dressed for work on a Friday night in winter. The text is surrounded by wonderfully humorous illustrations, some showing only feet or torsos peeking from the page edges. This brilliant work shows the glamorous world of musicians from a perspective familiar to all.
Time
One of those rare collaborations to which the word classic instantly adheres. .

    DELIGHTFUL

Years ago my son was 5 and had just started violin lessons. The book was a huge hit from the start. Every night before bed he insisted on reading this book, and only this book. And this continued for a long time. I was very pleased to find such a fun, high quality book that specifically had a positive Classical music focus. My son still loves to play the violin. At age 15 he is now 3rd chair in the most advanced youth orchestra in the state. Occasionally I will show him the cover of the book, he gives me a big grin, and will want to flip through it just for fun. What more could you ask for?
