"Ready?" the voiceover-style narration asks on the first page; it shows a yellow dot on a plain white background. "Press here and turn the page," it instructs. When the page is turned, there's a second yellow dot beside the first one. "Great!" it says. "Now press the yellow dot again." A third yellow dot appears beside the first two. "Perfect," the narrator continues. "Rub the dot on the left... gently." On the next page, voila!—that dot is now red. "Well done!" the book congratulates. The fun continues as the dots proliferate, travel around the page, grow and shrink in response to commands to clap, shake, or tilt the book, etc. The joy is in the tacit agreement between artist and reader that what's happening is magic. The only illustrations are colored dots of varying size on heavy paper. Little children can follow the simple directions such as: "PRESS HERE AND TURN THE PAGE." Rubbing and tapping on different colored dots will help children learn colors. Shaking, tilting, and moving the book to the right moves the dots around the page. By pressing yellow dots, the lights go out (shown by a black background). Pressing yellow dots turns the lights back on. Now the dots are out of sequence. But which dots switched? The black background returns by pressing all the dots hard. Blowing gets rid of the black. Clapping makes the dots bigger. Children will enjoy following the various directions and seeing what happens. This is a clever way for children to learn many different concepts. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman

Three dots on a page, one yellow, one blue, and one red, "need" readers help to make them multiply and move, either by pressing or tapping on them, blowing on them, shaking the book, or clapping.     Love, love, love this book!

    Today is International Dot Day and I am using this book (again) in my storytime lineup. The children (ages 3-5) love the idea that they are participating in the story and experiencing cause and effect.

    My three year old loved it!

    I took this book with me on a trip as a gift to my three year old cousin, along with several others. She absolutley loved it! So much so that we read it several times a day and every night before bed during my visit. None of the other books I took got near as much attention. I would highly recommend it.

    This is a great book! It's colorful and interactive. The night the book arrived in the mail, I found myself doing all the actions and laughing out loud. I'm building our library for my son who is only 6 months old now and I cannot wait for him to enjoy this with me!

    Toddler happiness

    My 15 month granddaughter is learning to blow on a page, shake the book, press dots harder or softer, and gently rub. NOT what I thought early childhood reading would produce, but at the same time she's learning that her books are fun, that they are enjoyable together with someone, and have a sequence that ends in smiles. What more could I ask? At her age, reading is a team sport, and this gives everyone a chance to play.

    Wonderful! For everyone.

    My 8 year old an I were in the store and this was on a display. She always picks up a couple and reads them. We were sitting at the little table looking at our selections and saw another mom and her TEENAGE daughter with this book. They were laughing and shaking it and tilting it back and forth and it sparked our curiosity! As soon as they were done we grabbed one and read it ourselves. We were hooked. I immediately started to think about who i could buy a copy for. It would make an awesome gag gift for a teacher,a parent or a child that has problems following directions. I can't stop wondering how the author thought this up, and it's so simple.

    Love this book!!!

    We just bought this for my 8 yr old daughter. She read it in the store & has read it several times since we came home. We also bought one for a gift for cousins. Low tech and wonderful!!

    Best book ever

    Love it, love it, love it! Both my seven year old and my five year old get a kick out of it everytime they read it, even though they know what is coming. A fun book for everyone.

    real fun, no batteries needed

    This clever little volume allows the reader to take action by pressing, shaking, tilting, and then turn the page to see the results. Very simple and very special.

    cute book

    saw this book at the library and immediately put it on my wish list. so fun! ordered it, what i thought was in time for Christmas. was given a 3 day shipment time frame, but that ended up being 11 days. buy the book! but, not necessarily from barnes and noble. amazon is MUCH more reliable.

    A truly INTERACTIVE book...that isn't digital!!

    What a fresh and exciting way to share a story with young minds. The introduction of engagement enthralls children to "listen" so they know what to do next. A fun way to introduce some colors, left & right and even a tad bit of science. So flex your pointer finger and get ready to read this book many times and watch the wonderment on their little faces.

    I bought this when my son was 2 or 2 and half and he loves it.

    I bought this when my son was 2 or 2 and half and he loves it. He's now 3 and a half and he still pulls the book out for us to read to him or for him to read... he seems to have it memorized. Wonderful Imaginative book.
