Overview

Phssthpok the Pak had been traveling for most of his thirty-two thousand years. His mission: save, develop, and protect the group of Pak breeders sent out into space some two and a half million years before...

Brennan was a Belter, the product of a fiercely independent, somewhat anarchic society living in, on, and around an outer asteroid belt. The Belters were rebels, one and all, and Brennan was a smuggler. The Belt worlds had been tracking the Pak ship for days — Brennan figured to meet that ship first...

He was never seen again — at least not by those alive at the time.

    The Mission of Phssthpok

This book is a great book for any science-fiction lovers out there. I noticed this book one day and instantly became absorbed in it.You cannot help but be enmeshed by the mystery and action in this book and you cannot help but empathize with Phssthpok as he strives to help protect not only his species, but his life as well as he struggles to find the lost group of Pak before his hunger disappears. Also, this book has one of the most unique twists that I have read in a while, making for a story that will keep you busy wondering from beginning to end. So, if you like stories that are so unique that they give you a new perspective of thinking, THE PROTECTOR by Larry Niven is a book to read.

    Enter the Pak...

My favorite book... ever. Few stories come close to this tragically undersold book. Phssthpok is a Pak Protector, a species from the galactic core that happen to be the fiercest sentient fighters in the galaxy. More frightening still, their intellignce is very high... and I should mention something here: when you read this, it becomes obvious that the smart species are SMART. They aren't above-it-all 'ancients' with super-duper technology, they are fiercely intelligent and emotionally motivated. Phssthpok may be the first Outsider to human space... or is he an outsider at all? Absolutely thrilling. Reading this book actually changed my habits to emulate the Pak Protectors, it is that involving.
