Overview

Charlotte Trasker has always been a good girl, so she married the most decent, reliable man she could find even though their love life was a bit on the predictable side. Thirteen years later, she's a widowed mom who runs her company, prepares three vegetarian meals a day for her children, and volunteers for just about every good deed in town. But no one knows that Charlotte has a secret weakness for squirt cheese, erotic poetry-and the mystery man she lost her virginity to in a reckless roadside tryst, moments before she got engaged. They never exchanged names, and even now, Charlotte can't stop fantasizing about that spectacular stranger...

DEA agent Joe Bellacera isn't crazy about having to hide out in Minton, Ohio before testifying at the trial of a notorious drug lord. But he's handling it just fine...until he lays eyes on a fiery redhead and a hot little body he'd recognize anywhere. Joe's never had another woman like Charlotte since that day thirteen years ago. Now she's his neighbor-and strictly off-limits...

Amid the balmy, honeysuckle-scented breezes of a Midwestern summer, sense and sensibility are about to be subverted by an ice cream-loving dog, conspiring kids, and nosy neighbors. And when the Widow Trasker's fantasies meet the rock-hard reality of Agent Bellacera, let the fireworks begin...

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In Donovan's latest romance (after Take a Chance on Me), orgasms are much on the mind of widow Charlotte Tasker, who spent a mind-blowing few hours with a hot stranger 13 years earlier, but who hasn't been as lucky since, as her late husband's laid-back sexuality didn't match her wilder urges. Still, raising two kids alone doesn't leave room for anything other than fantasies-until Charlotte realizes that her handsome new neighbor is the man from her past. For DEA agent Joe Bellacera, the timing of their unexpected reunion couldn't be worse. With a drug warlord's $1 million bounty on his head forcing him into hiding, he needs to keep a low profile, not get involved with the woman who nearly scalded his skin off with her lovemaking and then took his heart with her when she drove away. But when Joe decides fate shouldn't be ignored so easily, Charlotte doesn't stand a chance. Goofy comedy, white-hot sex and ticking-bomb pacing will keep readers glued to the pages. Joe suffers from hunky alpha-male syndrome, which makes him seem less complex than Charlotte and less memorable, but all in all, this is a surefire crowd-pleaser-for the crowd who appreciates orgasms, that is. Agent, Pamela Hopkins. (June) Forecast: Glowing cover praise from Susan Andersen and Christina Dodd should jumpstart sales of this sexy contemporary. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

    Worth the purchase

My first Susan Donovan book and I am glad it was recommended. I did not think she could/would pull this plot line off as well as she did and still keep it fresh and interesting. SD managed to do it all and then some. I found the characters believable as well as likeable. Funny, touching, romantic. I will definitely be buying more of Donovan's books.

I loved everything about this book! Although I havent read it in

I loved everything about this book! Although I havent read it in a couple of years, I still find myself remembering scenes, or comparing current books to it and they always come up lacking! I'm constantly trying to find books like Susan Donovans, eventhough I hate to admitt this (because shes my favorite) her newer books dont come close to the older ones... I first noticed while reading her series, The night she got lucky was the last book I enjoyed. It was a struggle to finish the rest! Then i tried again with Cheri on top, it was an average read, so I read the discription on her next book called I want candy and was surprised to see that it was about an interacial couple (thats fine) but its not something that appeals to me in a romance. My point is it wasnt her style, If I wanted to read a book like that I would have thought to turn to a different author...
I recommend the visitation series by lori foster. One night stand by cindy kirk.
Any good recommendations lmk : )

A great book that you would never want to put down.

A Public Display of Affection was really good. I have to admit that I couldn't put the book down. Even though there were some twist and turns, I do have to admit that at the end it made me a happy person. I was glad that finally Charlotte Tasker was happy after finding her fanasty guy after thirteen years. I was sad at the end because it was over. But it won't stop me from reading it again.

    One Sexy Thrill

I loved this book. It was really well paced and who can't relate in some way to a story about an old flame? The characters were funny and real. And the story is very sexy. I think Ms. Donovan does a great job of capturing the real insecurities, passion and fire that goes into the development of a relationship. I would recommend any of her books!

    Potential but not there yet.

I enjoy Susan Donovan's pieces but she just isn't there yet. This book came to a somewhat unclimatic end considering the build-up through the first 3/4 of the book. There was a great deal of potential in this book including the introduction of a spiritual character in the form of the dead husband which would've greatly improved the story line and potential humor. The most irritating thing about this book were the number of proofing errors. On average, one every other page, made it maddening to read. I'm not a perfectionist in this area and I found it very irritating. It would've driven the perfections into the mad house for sure.

A fine entertaining contemporary romantic intrigue

Raising her two preadolescent children by herself, Charlotte Tasker has been a widow for nineteen months. She loved her late spouse Kurt, but has never forgotten her tryst near National Airport with a stranger in which she lost her virginity and had the best sex of her life............................... Following the murder of his partner and his partner¿s family, DEA Agent Joe Bellacera is told to lay low until the Guzman Mexico drug cartel is stopped. Joe pretends to be wannabe mystery author Joseph Mills as he relocates to Minton, Ohio. Next door is Charlotte, the woman with whom he shared the best sex on his life near National. He also chipped his tooth in the heat of their passion. He looked for her for years, but now that he found her, he must keep away from this soccer mom for fear of Guzman killing her and her two children though he cannot deny the growing love he feels for the three Taskers............................... Romantic suspense fans who take a chance on Susan Donovan will conclude that the exhilarating novels of this author knock readers off their feet. Though the probability of the lovers meeting under these circumstances seems outrageous, the audience will not care one iota, as the tale is terse and the cast fantastic, especially the hero and his beloved Taskers. PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTIONS is a fine entertaining contemporary romantic intrigue even though the suspense comes late as the audience watches Joseph battle between his heart and his fears for his beloved threesome........................... Harriet Klausner

    Another great Donovan story

Susan Donovan¿s Public Displays Of Affection is a sensual emotional journey. Charlotte Tasker has walked the straight and narrow for the last 13 years. She married a stable, safe man, had two kids but now is a widow. Charlotte has had a huge secret for 13 years, she had a late night erotic tryst with a mystery man. This mystery man has fueled her fantasies for years. Joe Bellacera is set to testify against a major drug lord that murdered his friend and his family. So he is hiding in small town, Minton, Ohio. What a shock to see the one woman he could not forget from 13 years ago living next door. Once Charlotte realizes the new juicy piece of man (to quote a friend of hers) living next door is her fantasy man, she is torn as to what to do. Joe isn¿t sure at first if it¿s worth the risk to Charlotte and her family to become involved. When he changes his mind all bets are off. Public Displays Of Affection is a well-written story of finding your true self. Joe and Charlottes chemistry is sensational. I could not put this book down.
