Children's Literature - Traci Avalos
This Spanish picture book helps readers learn about different appearances. It uses vivid full-color photos to illustrate concepts such as shapes, lines, patterns, and groups. It also covers the concept of same and different and choosing what does not belong to a group. Symmetry is also discussed, with examples from nature including the human body. There are reading comprehension questions throughout the book, using different types of wildlife and other items from nature as examples. While great for beginning readers, this would also work well with foreign language learners of all ages learning Spanish, as the sentence structure is simple, much of the vocabulary is common in the first and second year Spanish foreign language classes, and the photographs are not overly childish. It is written fully in Spanish. This book is a part of the "Observar la Naturaleza" series and includes a vocabulary word index with pictures. Reviewer: Traci Avalos
