Overview

Jude Deveraux continues her beloved Montgomery saga in America with this dramatic, passion-filled tale of rebellion and love — a breathtaking adventure to be savored all over again — or discovered for the first time!

The Raider

In colonial New England, the British are hunting a fearless, masked patriot whose daring foils them at every turn. He's known simply as the Raider.

Jessica Taggert, a proud-tempered beauty, thrills to the Raider's scorching midnight embrace, but despises Alexander Montgomery, the drunken town buffoon.

In truth, the cleverly disguised Montgomery lives two lives...and only his triumph over the hated Redcoats will free him, at last, to know the full pleasure of Jessica's love.

Jude Deveraux
Jude Deveraux

Jude Deveraux is the author of forty-one New York Times bestsellers, including MOONLIGHT IN THE MORNING, SCENT OF JASMINE, SCARLET NIGHTS, DAYS OF GOLD, LAVENDER MORNING, RETURN TO SUMMERHOUSE, and SECRETS. Biography

Jude Deveraux was born in Fairdale, Kentucky, the eldest of a family of three girls and one boy. After earning a degree in art from Murray State University and studying teaching at the University of New Mexico, she taught fifth grade in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She left when her first book, The Land of Enchantment, was accepted for publication by Avon books.

Jude's first books were historical, chiefly featuring the Montgomery and Taggert families. Stories of the lives and loves of these families spanned over several centuries in the US and England. They are filled with details of the history and culture of the time periods and settings of her novels. Her more recent series of books focuses on the McTern family and its descendants. The novels are set in the fictional town of Edilean, Virginia, and go from when the family arrived in America to contemporary time.

Jude's exhaustive research on every aspect of her books has made for a rich and detailed background for each of her novels. Her stories are adventurous, funny, and at times heartwarming. Jude has had over thirty books on the New York Times Bestsellers List, over 60 million copies in print, and has been translated into 18 languages.

Jude has lived in England and Egypt as well as in several American states, and she has traveled around the world. She likes to read nonfiction and murder mysteries, work in her garden, and in boxing class, she enjoys showing much younger males that she can throw a mean right cross.

Good To Know

Deveraux began her career as a fifth-grade teacher.

Wow what an adventure they had....`

The Raider I thought was really so good that I bought the book and I couldn't put it down and finished it in 3 days. But that is what it's been with her books. If you want something to read, read The Raider.

I have read many of Jude Deveraux's books, and this one is now one of my favorites. There were literally times when I found myself laughing out loud. I liked the story line, and although I didn't like the heroine at first, I eventually warmed up to her as I got to know her better and understand her more fully. Great read.

    Fun Historical Romance Novel!

Enjoy a fun and enjoyable historical romance that first introduces the Taggart's to the Jude Deveraux books.

    SOOoooooooo good!

This book was amazing! I love all the masked man interludes, but that she was able to fall in love with the guy who acted more like a lover and friend than just a sexy stranger (even though they're the same). I thought the reveal could've been a little more "wow." And I do wish they would've developed the Nick/Eleanor story more because that was almost as intriguing, but seriously, I loved this book!

    Superman?!

Okay, so the identity of the raider is ridiculously obvious, but cute storyline.

This is one of my favorite Deveraux books. Colonial America, men in disguise, strong headed women...it's an equation for a fun, romantic adventure.

    A reviewer

This is one of Jude's funniest books. Alex Montgomery is totally hot, and you will eventually warm up to the heroine, Jessica Taggert. This book seems very un-PC by today's standards with all the 'fat' jokes, but it is a great book!

    Okay....

This book was great, nut I don't think Jessica should have fallen in love with Alex. She should have loved the raider, even though they are the same. my favorite character had to be jessica. She was too stuborn to realize she loved the raider.

    My Favorite

This is probably my favorite romance novel. The characters are fun and likeable. I have read it several times over the years. It also has a good story which is something you don't always find with a romance novel.

    Good, not Great

This book is very good. Jessica's reaction to Alex is unrealistic. If he looks that fat, I really doubt she would marry him. But the book was funny and I loved Nick. He was really funny. Especially in the epilogue.

    not bad

I basically thought the story was well written and entertaining. The only thing that bothered me was the main character's(jessica)reaction to the raider. She has never seen his face but she will sleep with him? Please. No real woman would do this. But for that I enjoyed the book for the time that I read it in.
