Overview

"Jefferson is the central figure in American history, and...he may yet prove to be the central figure in modern history." So stated noted historian Henry Steele Commager.

The Real Thomas Jefferson lets you meet the man as he really was-rather than as interpreted by historians. The book tells much of his exciting story in his own words.

You will meet a man who-

lost his wife when she was only 33, and lost four children before the age of three.

created the masterpiece of his life, the Declaration of Independence, at the young age of 33.

served as governor of war-torn Virginia and once escaped British capture by only minutes.

was one of the geniuses behind the American Constitution, even though he was serving in France during the Constitutional Convention.

was a true Renaissance man, skilled in farming, scientific experimentation, practical invention, economics, political philosophy, and statesmanship.

nearly lost his first presidential election to Aaron Burr, a scoundrel who later may have committed treason.

The second part of this book brings together the most important and insightful passages from Jefferson's writings, conveniently arranged by subject.

    Thomas Jefferson without the controversy

The Real Thomas Jefferson is a thoroughly refreshing look at one of America's most influential statesmen. The book contains extensive quotes from original documents to provide insights into Jefferson as a person. The book is generally free from the controvery on that modern historians seem compelled to focus. A complete reading gives insight to his background and education, experience, brilliance, his commitment, his spiritual nature and the state of American colonial politics.

    I love it

the book font: not too little, I love the pictures, I love the word glossary with all the quotations from Thomas. A very clear, concise and not boring text. we are not lost by a huge amount of details. However, the authors found for each of his life time quotations and testimonies. Very interesting and a text that flows very well. Not too many pages, not too heavy for bedtime reading. Just a perfect book! I will have a look on the two others ones about Washington and Ben Franklin.

Great factual Book about a Great Man

So many to the political left try to change history, in particular Thomas Jefferson. Great man, he was a devout Christian, and not once, not twice, four times try to push Emancipation Proclamation. yes he owned slaves, but he inherited them. But he did want to free slaves. But if he had pushed it too much, we would have never became our own country or had the American Civil war 90 years earlier. Great book and show documents and resources to back claims.
