Meet the Author

Nora Roberts
Nora Roberts
Nora Roberts is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than 170 novels. She is also the author of the bestselling futuristic suspense series written under the pen name J.D. Robb. With more than 300 million copies of her books in print, Nora Roberts is indisputably the most celebrated and beloved women's fiction writer today.

Biography

Not only has Nora Roberts written more bestsellers than anyone else in the world (according to Publishers Weekly), she’s also created a hybrid genre of her own: the futuristic detective romance. And that’s on top of mastering every subgenre in the romance pie: the family saga, the historical, the suspense novel. But this most prolific and versatile of authors might never have tapped into her native talent if it hadn't been for one fateful snowstorm.

As her fans well know, in 1979 a blizzard trapped Roberts at home for a week with two bored little kids and a dwindling supply of chocolate. To maintain her sanity, Roberts started scribbling a story -- a romance novel like the Harlequin paperbacks she'd recently begun reading. The resulting manuscript was rejected by Harlequin, but that didn't matter to Roberts. She was hooked on writing. Several rejected manuscripts later, her first book was accepted for publication by Silhouette.

For several years, Roberts wrote category romances for Silhouette -- short books written to the publisher's specifications for length, subject matter and style, and marketed as part of a series of similar books. Roberts has said she never found the form restrictive. "If you write in category, you write knowing there's a framework, there are reader expectations," she explained. "If this doesn't suit you, you shouldn't write it. I don't believe for one moment you can write well what you wouldn't read for pleasure."

Roberts never violated the reader's expectations, but she did show a gift for bringing something fresh to the romance formula. Her first book, Irish Thoroughbred (1981), had as its heroine a strong-willed horse groom, in contrast to the fluttering young nurses and secretaries who populated most romances at the time. But Roberts's books didn't make significant waves until 1985, when she published Playing the Odds, which introduced the MacGregor clan. It was the first bestseller of many.

Roberts soon made a name for herself as a writer of spellbinding multigenerational sagas, creating families like the Scottish MacGregors, the Irish Donovans and the Ukrainian Stanislaskis. She also began working on romantic suspense novels, in which the love story unfolds beneath a looming threat of violence or disaster. She grew so prolific that she outstripped her publishers' ability to print and market Nora Roberts books, so she created an alter ego, J.D. Robb. Under the pseudonym, she began writing romantic detective novels set in the future. By then, millions of readers had discovered what Publishers Weekly called her "immeasurable diversity and talent."

Although the style and substance of her books has grown, Roberts remains loyal to the genre that launched her career. As she says, "The romance novel at its core celebrates that rush of emotions you have when you are falling in love, and it's a lovely thing to relive those feelings through a book."

Good To Know

Roberts still lives in the same Maryland house she occupied when she first started writing -- though her carpenter husband has built on some additions. She and her husband also own Turn the Page Bookstore Café in Boonsboro, Maryland. When Roberts isn't busy writing, she likes to drop by the store, which specializes in Civil War titles as well as autographed copies of her own books.

Roberts sued fellow writer Janet Dailey in 1997, accusing her of plagiarizing numerous passages of her work over a period of years. Dailey paid a settlement and publicly apologized, blaming stress and a psychological disorder for her misconduct.

    More than a book...

I could not get enough of this book. It took me two days and I was done. Sadly I wish I could know more of Tate and Matthew's story. Reading a Nora Roberts book doesn't keep you on the outside of the pages. Somehow you get drawn into each and everything that happens. You feel like you are apart of the story. You can feel every touch, hear every word, and even smell the air around you. Nora Roberts is an author like no other.

    a treasure hunt adventure

a great book to dive into on a rainy day or night. A quick read, rather predictable, but fun with the diving, treasure hunt, crazed billionaire, and the unexplainable psychic forces

    One of Nora's Best!!!

This is my second favorite NR book (Honest Illusions is first!). It is a touching story and an easy read. I like how the story feels real, it's not one of those love stories where the couple fall madly in love on day one and get engaged on day two. I was hooked right from the start. For some reason the story made me think of the movie Fool's Gold with Kate Hundson, so if you like that movie you will like this book. The main character Matthew, is truly amazing -- I wish he was real!

    A Thrilling Underwater Adventure

This was an exceptional story. I'm totally a Nora fan, and to date, this was the best book i've read. Each character has the same desire and it brings them together to the ultimate ending. The ending of this book was by far the best of any book i've ever read, because the bad guy gets what he deserves.

    Loved It

I always love a story when the characters have a history rather than meet each other one day then the very next day are swearing their undying love.

    I wish I were there!

I really enjoyed the story of the quest to find Angelique's Curse. I felt like I really got to know each character in the story and I liked them all. I absolutely fell in love with Matthew. He did very well despite all of the struggles in his life. There were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming, which kept it interesting. I was a little disappointed in the ending though. Just when it seemed like everything was settled and Matthew and Tate would live happily ever after, there was another twist. I thought it was a little unrealistic and would have preferred that it ended a different way. I don't want to say any more as not to ruin it for those who have not read it. Overall I did enjoy it and definately recommend it.

One of Nora Robert's BEST Novels!

Reef is my absolute FAVORITE book of all! I've been reading Nora Roberts novels since freshman year of high school. I'm starting my junior year in college next month, and out of all the books I've read from Nora Roberts, this one takes the cake. It hooks you in from the first page all the way until the last. I could not put this book down. The first time i read 'Reef' I finished the entire book in 2 days because it was so good and so addicting.

    Fun Easy Read

This was the first book that I have read by Nora Robers, and I really enjoyed it. I have read a few more of book since and was not nearly as impressed. While Roberts comes across as a commercial writer this story took me to another place. The characters were loveable the setting beautiful. The story was very exciting. This book was an easy read, not earth shattering at all, but fun if you are looking for fluff.

    I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

To be totally honest with you, I'm not really into paranormal suspense. But this book was an exception. The paranormal part was kept down and was also important to the story of Angelique's Curse. The romance part was really good but I would have liked it if she would have stayed mad at him just a while longer(he did break her heart, after all); I like to read about couples who deperately try to stay out of love. It makes it more interesting and sweet when they are finally together. There was no real suspense. You often find yourself just wondering what was going to happen next but you knew they were going to find the wreck and Angelique's Curse. I really liked this book and I know a lot of Nora readers will too. ****Eight years changes some things but not others. Bound together by one goal-to find the wreck, recover it's treasures and go their seperate ways; they spent a summer in paradise until it all came crashing down by an old enemy. Now, eight years later to find the wreck that has haunted them for nearly a decade,ISABELLA, they meet again. With betrayal, need, fear, trust, greed and old scores to settle this will be a time none of them will forget.
