This is a tongue-in-cheek, fun science fiction novel full of action, romance, adventure, and irony. There are aliens, strange gadgets to get you into and out of trouble, dead people who aren't dead, and more Elvis impersonators than in Las Vegas.

Literate farce is still a scarcity in science fiction. That's why this third volume in the continuing series about Maijstral, the Number One-rated allowed burglar in the Human Constellation, is such an amusing find . . . The plot moves briskly from underwater palaces to holy Graceland (a marvelously silly land practically overflowing with Elvii of all species, genders, and sizes), and the whirlwind pace helps keep the novel entertaining, if not intellectually overtaxing.

. . . Drake had become the number one rated Allowed Burglar, and he decided to celebrate by visiting Earth for a vacation. Unfortunately nobody on Earth is willing to believe he really is on vacation--- they all believe he's casing the place for more thefts. And thefts start taking place around him, as somebody tries to frame him . . . In the end, Drake has to brake into Graceland, past all the Elvis priests and Elvis clones, to get the plots unravelled. The series is a wonderful romp.

Meet the Author

Walter Jon Williams was born in Minnesota, and now lives in New Mexico. He is the author of twenty-eight novels and three collections of short fiction.

His first novel to attract serious public attention was Hardwired (1986), described by Roger Zelazny as "a tough, sleek juggernaut of a story, punctuated by strobe-light movements, coursing to the wail of jets and the twang of steel guitars." In 2001 he won a Nebula Award for his novelette, “Daddy’s World,” and won again in 2005 for “The Green Leopard Plague.”

His latest work is Deep State, a near-future thriller set in the world of alternate reality gaming.

Walter has also written for the screen and for television, and has worked in the gaming field. He was a writer for the alternate reality game Last Call Poker, and has scripted the recent mega-hit Spore.
