Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
I received a ARC from NetGalley of this book.
There is not many books that keep me up reading all night but this one I  could not put down it had my interest from the vey first page.
This  is  the best  i have read so far of this year. Looking forward the next book from Mr Perry.  Shame I could not give more stars than five.

Julie Banton

The combination of action and suspense make a book a good read. Add in just the right measure of romance and emotion, fold in a bit of mystery and work becomes a really good read. It is no wonder why David Perry has a national best seller in his book Second Chance. An Alex Benedict novel this story is centered around a man's steadfast love for his dying wife and a suspenseful hunt for her potential cure. Just like me, once you pick this book up you won't put it back down until the very end - and even them you will be wishing there was more.

Something sinister is happening in the dark of night at Tidewater's hospital. As patients begin to die from mysterious causes one pharmacist begins looking for answers. What he does not expect to find is a dangerous group pursuing the cure for cancer - a group ready and willing to kill to protect their interests. Alex Benedict is tasked by his colleague through a mysterious message after his colleagues suicide to find and protect what ever it is that this group is so desperate to get its hands on. Danger lurks in the shadows, following Alex and his group of friends as they search for this mysterious cure.

Second Chanceis a quick novel. Set at a fast pace as the men fight to race death you will speed through, hanging on every last word. This is a great book to read during the holidays or on your next trip. National Best Sellers also make great gifts! If you have any book worms on your list this is a great way to make sure to get them something that they'll love!

What a thriller! I could not put this book down once I started reading. Very believable characters that the reader can relate to their own lives. The villians are numerous and sinister. The good guys are loveable and smart. Hopefully this is not the last we have heard of Alex Benedict.

What if someone you loved was dying, and there was a way to make them well. What if you were left only days/hours with your loved one would you spend it with them or go in search of the potion to cure them. What if the potion had not only the ability to cure your loved one, but all the aliments in the world. There would be no sickness, no death, no need for hospitals or doctors. What if someone else wanted that potion just as much as you and were willing to kill for it. Second Chance is a beautifully spun tale of corruption, greed and intrigue. Set in a large private hospital, head pharmacist, Alex Benedict accidentally finds a saline bag with an unusual contents in the room where a patient died. Knowing it is unusual and may potentially have been the cause of the patients death, he delves into its origin and uncovers other deaths possibly tied to the same substance. When he reports his concerns he finds himself embroiled in a situation that is potentially life threatening for himself but may also save the life of his terminally ill wife. This book is well written and although somewhat predictable it holds your attention to the very end. I was given a copy to read for my honest review and I strongly suggest reading this book.

    Suspense at its best!

I couldn't put it down! The author draws you into the story and you are so caught up in the characters lives and struggles and the non-stop action you start to forget it's fiction. An outstanding follow up to David Perry's wonderful first novel, The Cyclops Conspiracy. Don't miss either of these great books. WARNING: Start reading them when you can stay up all night because you will!!

This book was a page-turner from the first paragraph. I was hooked. I read this author's first book, The Cyclops Conspiracy which was a fabulous read. Second Chance is as good if not better. The characters were real and human. The plot was fast-paced and scenes were well written

Wonderful Book!  If you like medical mysteries then you will love this thrilling and easy to read book.  With all the strange events occurring in the hospital you are hooked from the beginning.  In between all the twists and turns the relationship between Alex and Rose is so tender and unbelievably loving, that it begins to provoke those “what would you do” questions.  If you are a fan of Robin Cook then this is the book for you.

SECOND CHANCE is a medical thriller which begins when Alex Benedict attends a code blue and afterward finds a suspicious iv bag in the trash. He reports this to superiors and an investigation is started. At the same time, Tidewater Regional Medical Center is expecting a survey visit from the Joint Commission and is hoping to avoid a buyout based on these survey results.

Unbeknownst to the hospital staff, an experiment is occurring which could change the world as we know it by eradicating disease. There is just one problem, the man who developed it has committed suicide after his one successful trial and left only one viable dosage for Alex's wife. If Alex can decipher the clues and find it, he can not only cure his wife but also possess the formula.

The characters were likable and I found myself tearing up at times while reading the storyline between Alex and Rose. Other times, I found myself wanting to skip over the pages as I was wishing the characters would just get to where they were going and get it over with when they were attempting to find the clues. Luckily there were only a couple places when this occurred, otherwise the story offers us an engaging thriller, which begs us to think what would we do should we have the chance to save our life at the cost of others? Would we use the formula to save ourselves or give it to our neighbor lying in the bed beside us? If you like Robin Cook, give this story a try.
