Second Chances
Melanie Thomas believes that sometimes people who are down on their luck just really need that little boost upward to improve their quality of life; and she can provide that. Since she started her tee-shirt embossing shop she has made a difference in her employees' lives by giving them a new lease on life--hope--a second chance. Her employees are grateful and dedicated to her, but someone else wants her property for his own purpose. Things start happening after he approaches her with an offer to buy her building--an offer she immediately turns down. When inspectors start showing up, Melanie believes it's a ploy to force her to sell and she silently laughs about it as she triumphs over each inspection. But when the building burns, she knows exactly who to accuse. It hurts because she realizes she was falling in love with him. It seems everyone needs a second chance now and then.

About the Author

Carole McKee is originally from Pittsburgh, but has resided in Florida for the past ten years. Most of her books take place in the Western Pennsylvania area, the place she will always call home. Carole is a passionate writer, making readers feel the emotions of her characters. One reader exclaimed, "Carole McKee's books help cleanse the tear ducts!" Her first novel, "Perfect" brought out so much emotion that she got phone calls from people who were in tears when they finished the book. Another reader says that she laughs and then she cries with every one of McKee's books. Carole has enjoyed many fields in many areas, including being a Keypunch operator back in the late '60's and early '70's. She became a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and then decided to change fields. She worked as an Administrative Assistant in a Methadone clinic as well as an office manager for a couple of construction companies. She worked as a machinist in a metal shop for a little while, and did some customer service work. When out of work, she signed on with temp agencies and got lots of experience in various fields. In addition to her Nuclear Medicine degree, she has a BA in Business Administration and a MA in Behavioral Health Sciences--School Counseling. She became a member of Chi Sigma Iota in 2008. Because of severe back pain, Carole doesn't work outside her home any more, but she still tutors occasionally. Much of her time is focused on writing.

A note from Carole McKee: "I love to write and I will continue to write until my fingers fall off--God forbid."

Carole McKee's favorite charities are: The Humane Society of the United States, PETA, and ASPCA, and she partners with The Humane Society of Pinellas County.
