Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne —New York Times bestselling authors and internationally acclaimed teachers—have joined together to share their knowledge on one of the most crucial obstacles to happiness we face—the shadow. These three luminaries, each with a signature approach, bring to light the parts of ourselves we deny but that still direct our life. For it is only when we embrace our shadow that we discover the gifts of our authentic nature.
The shadow exists within all of us. It is a part of us and yet we spend most of our life running from it. But far from being scary, our dark side holds the promise of a better, more fulfilling life. Our shadow makes itself known every day. It is the reason we get furious over a friend showing up ten minutes late, yell at our parents or kids when they have done nothing wrong, and sabotage our own success at the worst possible time. Until we are able to embrace our dualistic nature, we will continue to hurt ourselves and those closest to us and fall short of our potential.
Combining the wisdom of three experts, The Shadow Effect is a practical and profound guide to discovering the gifts of our shadow. These three authors powerfully pierce the veil of our unclaimed self, releasing us from the past and propelling us on a journey to wholeness. No longer living a half life, we are capable of achieving our dreams and reclaiming the happiness that is our birthright.
When bestselling author Deepak Chopra (Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul), Debbie Ford (The 21-Day Consciousness Cleanse), and Marianne Williamson (The Age of Miracles) join forces, readers—and booksellers take notice. This triple-strength offering spells out little-known formulas to self-empowerment and tranquility. A top-seller in hardcover; now in a paperback and NOOKbook.

I had never heard of Debbie Ford or Marianne Williamson, but i am now a fan of both. The concepts discussed in this book are very interesting. Its always amazing when a book leaves you feeling both exposed and empowered.

The premise for this book is so short and simple the author's found they needed to expound on every tiny concept ad nauseum to justify the $12.99 price tag. I tried to read it from the beginning but could not get through the Deepak Chopra part due to its lack of substance so I skipped to the Debbie Ford chapter thinking that I might actually get to some "meat",if you will, since she is the one who "officially" developed and lectures on the Shadow Effect. Unfortunately every time she came up with some "new" premise about the Shadow she was so repetitive it was hard not to feel bored.
There may in fact be some good ideas here, I, unfortunatley could not find any reason to scour through every repetitive concept to get to it. Also, the use of The Shadow over and over and over also felt very schticky, like there was some monster lurking ready devour our spirit any second.

This book is really for people who do bad things like all self help books are. If you are an honest person who obeys rules and laws, where do you fit into these books that talk about urges and indescretions?
For once i wish someone would write a guide to dealing with difficult selfish people. This book assumes all it's readers are addicted pedophiles and does not consider a normal persons need to understand how to simply live with others who do not or will not take the time to read how to live and respect others.
Other words, the wrong people are reading this book.
