Overview

If you want to score, you have to get in the game...

The last thing Jenna Riley needs is more sports in her life. While her brothers are off being athletic superstars, she's stuck running the family's sports bar, whether she likes it or not. Then in walks pro hockey stud Tyler Anderson. As much as Jenna would like to go to the boards with him, she's vowed to never fall for a jock-even one as hot as Ty.

Ty, intrigued by the beautiful bar owner, becomes a regular. He senses that Jenna wants to do something more with her life. And as he gains her trust, the passion between them grows, as does Ty's insistence that Jenna should start living for herself. With his encouragement, Jenna starts to believe it, too...

But first, Jenna has to figure out what she wants, what she needs, who she loves, and if she has the passion and pride to take a shot at having it all-including Ty...

Jaci Burton scores with another red-hot romance sure to make your heart pound and your libido soar!

Jenna Riley is positive that she is destined to run her family’s sports bar for the rest of her life and with her father recovering from a heart attack, leaving Jenna to run the bar solo, she knows that she can never utter a word of complaint to her parents. With two professional athletes for older brothers though and the non-stop sport’s talk at work her life seems consumed by it and Jenna is adamant about not adding any more to the mix; even if that means shooting down sexy pro hockey player Tyler Anderson.
For months Ty has been frequenting Riley’s Sports Bar, intrigued by the spunky, pierced and tattooed bartender, despite getting the cold shoulder from her. He knows there is more under the prickly exterior that she shows the world, and even her family, and once he sees something he wants’ he goes for goal. Determined to show Jenna that he is the one man for her, Ty sets out to prove that the type of man she may think she wants can never light the fire in her that he can, and she will never feel that spark of chemistry with anyone but him.
Soon, Jenna can’t deny the passion that flares brightly between her and Ty, and no longer tries to fight it. But when he pushes her to follow her dreams and live for herself he may just end up pushing her too far. Can Jenna find the courage to face her fears and take a shot living the life she has always dreamed of or will she end up losing in the game of love?

Consuming passion, complex characters and an intriguing plot, Jaci Burton can chalk up another win for the sexy athletes in her Play by Play series!

I just LOVE the Riley’s, the family dynamics is amazing and with each new novel in the series this caring and supportive family captures another piece of my heart. Taking a Shot follows Jenna, the youngest of the Riley siblings and the only girl, Jenna feels like she has been living in the shadow of her two older pro-athlete brothers and is sick of sports taking over her life. As the female protagonist she is funny, smart, frustratingly stubborn and sadly feels that she cannot confide in her family her true feelings. I found myself wanting to give her a good hard shake throughout the story as well as a big hug. And Ty, well Ty…he was just WOW. Sexy, considerate, supportive, smart, with a great sense of humor and good attitude he is the perfect package; not to mention how he heats up the ice and the bedroom. You’ll need a bucket of ice for the sizzling sex that Burton delivers in Taking a Shot! Tyler Anderson easily makes the list of top swoon-worthy romance heroes for 2012 and the year has only begun.

Jaci Burton gives readers more than just a pretty package, but an entertaining and compelling story that will leave them begging for more. I cannot say enough good things about this book. If you’re already a fan of the Play by Play series than you won’t be disappointed with this latest installment and new readers are sure to find a new favorite author/series. Taking a Shot is set up well for a stand-alone but better read in a series and the Play by Play series is a must read for erotic romance and sports romance fans everywhere! Now I am dying for Cole Riley's story (Mick, Gavin & Jenna's cousin) in Playing to Win!

    So So

I loved books 1 and 2 of this series, but this one really missed the mark for me. It was ok, but Jenna was completely unbelievable. What a cry baby, her oh poor me attitude was so annoying. Also, I think Jaci Burton went from trying to tell a steamy love story, to just trying to shock the reader with her excessive use of course language. The love was definitely missing from this one. I usually really like this author, maybe the next one will be better???

Another great installment to this fabulous series....

    My Review:

For me, this book was about so much more than simply a really hot romantic story line (although it definitely was that). This book was truly about Jenna and the fact that she's terrified to follow her dreams. Jenna is the female of the Riley siblings. While big brothers, Gavin and Mick, have been following their professional sports dreams, Jenna has taken over the running of the family sports bar. Honestly, she is sick of sports....only because it's all her life has been 24/7 for years. But the fact that she doesn't want anything to do with sports is actually indicative of a much deeper issue. Sports in Jenna's life are standing in the way of Jenna's dream of singing...a fact that none of her family is even aware of. They have no clue about her talent or passion of song-writing and singing.

She has issues with sports in another area of her life too. She doesn't want to have anything to do with dating a guy who is into sports...kind of hard to do when you spend all day at a sports bar and every interaction in your life is based around sports. But she's determined and that's why she has no intention of giving into her attraction to Ty. Unfortunately for Jenna, as a pro hockey player, Ty really doesn't give up well and he's determined that he wants her.

Ty has a few issues of his own when it comes to relationships, but honestly, a relationship isn't what he's looking for with Jenna. He just wants to explore what they can do with their combustible chemistry.

I love sports themed books and I have to admit, hockey is one of my favorites. I loved the hockey aspect of this book and actually would have been happy if we could have even delved into the sport a little deeper, but I liked watching Ty as he struggles with his rocky relationship with Jenna at the same time he's trying to do what he needs to do on the ice to get his team to the play-offs. It was a fun and entertaining mix. Add to that, Jenna's singing ambitions and fears, and I was really pleased with the story line of this book. Yes, it's an erotic book with all the super-hot sex that you expect, but there is so much more to this story and it made for riveting reading.

I liked the dynamic between the three women: Jenna, Tara, and Liz and the way that they all bonded through their love of these sports figures. These scenes in the book were really well-done and added a lot to the book. I also really loved the way Ty was constantly pushing Jenna to go for her dreams, even when she pushed right back at him telling him to shove it. She could be really bi**hy and he would simply back off for the moment. I loved that about his character.

Overall, this was a really fantastic book. I enjoyed the story and the chemistry. The characters continue to be incredibly well-developed and this series continues to stay right up there as one of my favorites. I love these sports themed Jaci Burton books. She writes them so well!!

Jaci Burton delivers another hot and sexy story in Taking A Shot

Jaci Burton delivers another hot and sexy story in Taking A Shot. Her ultra sexy Play By Play series.

Jenna Riley is burned out on men, sports and just life in general. It doesn’t help that her family runs a sports bar and her brothers both play pro sports. Every where Jenna turns she sees sports. The last thing she needs is another jock hitting on her. Ty Anderson, center for the local hockey team is pressing hard for a date. As much as Ty melts the ice around her heart, Jenna refuses to give into her desires for this attractive man.

Ty Anderson was intrigued from his first meeting with the smoking hot bar keep at the local sports bar. He senses the conflict in Jenna about her life’s work and becomes her friend. But the attraction between these two is too hot to ignore. As their passion grows Ty convinces Jenna to trust her instincts and go for what she really wants out of life.

But Jenna has been burned before and trust does not come easy for her. Will she be unwilling to let go before she loses the love of her life?

Taking A Shot is another winner by Jaci Burton. The story is fast paced and sizzles between the main characters. An added treat is to revisit Jenna’s brothers to see how their story is continuing. Looking forward to more books in this series.

I hesitated because of some of the reviews. But I am glad i gave in and bought it. I loved it. Jenna and Tyler...... i thought it was well thought out and well written and hot hot hot. I agree with another reviewer... wait to read when your man is in town. Very romantic and the hockey was a bonus. I also like following Liz and Gavin and Tara and her now husband and son Nathan. I was really getting into this book until the first love scene.

I was really getting into this book until the first love scene. It was the genital piercing. Totally grossed me out and made the whole thing unsexy since I could not stop thinking about how painful that must have been...kind of like a guy having sympathy pangs hearing about another guy getting kicked in the scrotum. I just could not read on after that. It's a personal thing and doesn't have anything to do with the story or the author's talent (of which there is a lot). Just thought I'd warn others turned off by female genital piercing before you spend $10 or $15 on the book like I did only to get to page 66 and stop for good.

I feel in love with the Play-By-Play series from the first page

I feel in love with the Play-By-Play series from the first page of #1, and was even more amazed and delighted by #2. I eagerly awaited the release of this book and just finished reading it.
I am a little surprised, honestly. This book came up far short of its predecessors. There was something about Jenna that just made it hard for me to fall into the story. Her backstory was a little unrealistic and her cowardice showcased throughout the book made her less likeable overall. Oh, and she was often needlessly rude to the male protagonist, which bothered me a lot.
So, while the writing was still on par with the rest of her work, I couldn't get into the story thanks to dislike for the female protagonist.

However, I am still certainly looking forward to the next in the series. :)

    Loved it!!!

I absolutely love Jaci Burton! This book was great. I still like the second book in the series the best with Gavin and Elizabeth, but this one was well worth the wait. I really like Ty and Jenna's story. I will be buying #4 when it comes out in September!

    Good book.

If every book had a cover like this, there would be more readers in this world. Lol! Sexy, but the story wasn't strong enough. I never understood why Jenna wanted the music bar more than a recording contract. Can't wait to read Cole's story next.
